All-party delegation in New York underscores India's resolve to fight terrorism
New York [US], May 25 (ANI): The all-party delegation from India, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, engaged with prominent think tanks, academic leaders, and media in New York.
As per a statement by the Indian Consulate in New York, their discussions centered on India's resolution in combating terrorism.
In a post on X, the Consulate said, 'The All-Party Delegation from India, led by Hon'ble MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, engaged with prominent think tanks, academic leaders, and media in New York. The discussions underscored India's steadfast national resolve to combat terrorism -- united in voice, resolute in action.'

Earlier in the day, the delegation visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York. The delegation aimed to show solidarity with the US in their stance against terrorism.
In a post on X, India's Consulate in New York said, 'The All-Party Delegation from India, led by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, visited the National September 11 Memorial in New York. The delegation solemnly paid tribute to the innocent lives lost in the tragic 9/11 attacks and reaffirmed India's unwavering solidarity in the global fight against terrorism.'

Tharoor said that the visit of their delegation to the 9/11 memorial symbolizes solidarity with the US in its fight against terrorism.
''Look, we went to the Memorial of September 11 to send a message that New York also suffered due to the issue of terrorists twenty years ago, this is our experience as well. We want them to understand that solidarity is essential in this matter,' he told ANI.
The all-party delegation to United States, Guyana, Panama, Brazil, and Colombia led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor comprises of Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena) and Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The delegation will project India's national consensus and firm stance on combating terrorism in all its forms. They will carry India's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism to the global community during their outreach. (ANI)

New Delhi on Thursday expressed 'deep concern' over the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, particularly in light of reported attacks on nuclear facilities. The Ministry of External Affairs called on both nations to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could further destabilise the region. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, 'We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites.' India called for the use of existing diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions and address the underlying issues through dialogue. 'India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues,' the MEA said. Highlighting its ties with both countries, the ministry mentioned, 'India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support.' The MEA also confirmed that Indian embassies in both Iran and Israel are in touch with members of the Indian community. It advised Indian nationals in the region to remain vigilant. 'Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories,' the statement said. Israel launches preemptive strike on Iran Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran in the early hours of Friday, targeting its nuclear infrastructure. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the operation, which follows weeks of rising tensions over Tehran's advancing nuclear programme. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, the military action is part of 'Operation Rising Lion', aimed at neutralising perceived threats from Iran. Residents of Tehran reported loud explosions across the city as the strikes began. Iranian military leadership suffered major casualties, including General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the armed forces; General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Revolutionary Guards; and the head of Iran's Emergency Command, all of whom were reportedly killed in the attacks. Israel-Iran trade heavy fire The airstrikes involved over 200 Israeli fighter jets and targeted multiple strategic sites, including a nuclear facility. In response, Iran launched a counterattack involving more than 100 drones aimed at multiple locations within Israel. Israeli defence systems were immediately activated to intercept the incoming threats, CNN reported, citing military officials. Khamenei vows harsh response Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned Israel's actions, vowing retribution. 'Israel opened its wicked and blood-stained hand to a crime in our beloved country, revealing its malicious nature more than ever by striking residential centres,' Khamenei said in a statement reported by state media. Ayodhya turning into liquor hub
New Delhi: In a scathing attack on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government, the Congress party on Thursday alleged that the religious sanctity of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, has been compromised by the unchecked proliferation of liquor shops. The party also accused the state administration of concealing the actual death toll during the Kumbh Mela stampede. Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai said that Ayodhya, considered a holy city by millions of Hindus, has been turned into a liquor hub under the current government, despite its claims of being the custodian of Lord Ram's legacy. Rai disclosed that an 'umpteen number of liquor shops' have been opened throughout Ayodhya, and presented video evidence from a prominent YouTube news channel to back his claim. The report showed alcohol being sold in nearly every corner of the city. This, Rai pointed out, was in clear violation of the Municipal Corporation's ban on the sale and supply of liquor within a 13-kilometre radius of the city's central sacred zone. 'On one hand, the BJP claims to be the devotee of Lord Ram, and on the other, it is promoting liquor in his very birthplace. This is not only hypocrisy, but an outright insult to the faith of crores of Hindus,' Rai said. The Congress leader also leveled serious charges against the Yogi Adityanath-led government over the alleged underreporting of deaths that occurred during the Kumbh Mela stampede. Quoting a leading national media outlet, Rai stated that while 82 people had actually died, the government officially acknowledged only 37 fatalities. He further alleged that 19 individuals who perished during the Mahakumbh stampede were completely erased from the records. 'There is no mention of these victims, no compensation was offered to their families, and they have effectively been declared non-existent in the eyes of the government,' Rai said.

Iran has condemned the strikes, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that 'severe punishment' would be directed at Israel, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
