Universal Orlando is welcoming a new theme park this week. The Epic Universe is the first new Florida theme park to open in 25 years, according to US media reports.Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Universal Orlando Resort is opening the gates to its Universal Epic Universe theme park on Thursday. Universal Orlando is set to debut its fourth Florida theme park, Epic Universe, on May 22.This highly anticipated addition will transport guests into immersive worlds inspired by Harry Potter, Super Mario, How to Train Your Dragon, and other popular franchises. Situated southwest of downtown Orlando, Epic Universe marks the first major theme park opening in Florida in over 25 years. Its arrival is expected to intensify the long-standing rivalry with Walt Disney World Resort , a staple of the Orlando tourism scene since its 1971 debut."Is Epic Universe going to put Disney out of business? Absolutely not," Dennis Speigel, founder and CEO of consulting firm International Theme Park Services told CBS News. "Is it going to put a chink in their armor? Yeah."Universal announced the launch of Epic Universe in 2019. Although official figures have yet to be released, Speigel estimates that NBCUniversal's parent company spent approximately $7.7 billion to bring Epic Universe to life. In 2024, Comcast reported $8.6 billion in revenue from its theme park division, according to a regulatory filing.Epic Universe is expected to significantly boost Orlando's local economy—an area often referred to as 'The Amusement Capital of the World' due to its strong ties to the tourism industry. That year, over 75 million visitors traveled to the region, according to Visit Orlando, a local trade association. Casandra Matej, president and CEO of Visit Orlando, described the opening of Epic Universe as an 'important milestone' for the community. While Universal Orlando has not disclosed the park's capacity, Speigel estimates that Epic Universe can accommodate between 45,000 and 50,000 guests per day. He projects that the park could attract at least 6 million visitors annually, with potential for even higher attendance if U.S. economic growth remains stable and consumer concerns—such as those related to tariffs—subside.'The park actually has the physical capacity to draw at least 8 million people,' Speigel told CBS MoneyWatch. Still, a number of factors may influence those projections. For instance, a recent Bankrate survey found that more than half of Americans plan to cut back on spending for travel, dining, and entertainment this year.Visitors to the new Orlando attraction can explore five distinct "immersive worlds," each offering themed rides, restaurants, and entertainment:Celestial Park: Serving as the entrance and central hub of Epic Universe, this world is described by Universal Orlando as the "heart" of the park. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic: Set in 1920s Paris, this area combines elements from the Fantastic Beasts films and the original Harry Potter series. It expands upon Universal's existing Harry Potter-themed attractions: Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.Super Nintendo World: Guests enter through a signature green warp pipe and are transported into the colorful world of Nintendo. Highlights include a Mario Kart ride featuring augmented reality headsets. How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk: Modeled after the DreamWorks film series, this rugged, Viking-inspired land brings guests face-to-face with dragons and adventure.Dark Universe: Dubbed the "most mysterious world" of Epic Universe, this area immerses guests in gothic horror tales featuring classic Universal Monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man.Ticket prices start at $139 for adults and $134 for children (before tax), though prices may vary depending on the date, according to Universal Orlando's website. Park hours typically run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST, but schedules fluctuate daily, so visitors are encouraged to check in advance when planning their trip.

Lilo And Stitch Worldwide Box Office Update: Disney's live-action film marches its way towards the coveted USD 1 billion club
Disney's live-action Lilo And Stitch is setting the global box office on fire. The film is racing toward a jaw-dropping USD 1 billion in worldwide gross collections. After its second Tuesday, it has already pocketed just under USD 650 million globally. This family-comedy is proving to be a monster hit, and Disney is already counting its profits. With a modest production budget of USD 100 million (excluding marketing), the studio is laughing all the way to the bank. Let's break down why Lilo And Stitch is a box office juggernaut and how it's paving the way for massive earnings. The film's domestic performance in the US is nothing short of spectacular. It's targeting a whopping USD 450 million at the domestic box office. After its second Tuesday, it has already raked in over USD 285 million in US-Canada alone, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 domestically. The film's record-breaking Memorial Day weekend debut of USD 183 million set the tone, smashing past Top Gun: Maverick 's previous record of USD 160.5 million. A strong USD 63 million second weekend confirmed that the movie is in no mood to slow down anytime soon. Internationally, the film is a powerhouse, eyeing close to USD 600 million from markets outside the US. Markets like Mexico, UK and Brazil are leading the charge. However, Asia has been a bit of a soft spot, with the film yet to open in Japan. Still, the global appetite for Lilo And Stitch is undeniable. What makes this success even sweeter for Disney is the film's modest budget. At USD 100 million, Lilo And Stitch was initially planned for Disney+ but it pivoted to theaters and that move is paying off big time. Disney's global share by the end of its run will be over USD 400 million. Add to that non-theatrical revenue streams, and the studio is looking at profits exceeding USD 500 million. A huge chunk of this comes from Lilo And Stitch merchandise, which is flying off the shelves. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, Lilo And Stitch stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo. Chris Sanders has given the voice for Stitch. With no major competition until mid-June, Lilo And Stitch is set to keep soaring. Disney's gamble on this live-action remake has paid off and the losses of Snow White have been comfortably recovered.

Emma Watson's father advises the parents of the new Harry Potter cast: "As a parent, you have to be scared..."
Harry Potter star Emma Watson 's dad, Chris Watson, has some advice for the parents of the young recruits for the series of J.K. Rowling's book adaptations. The child actors who would play the leading roles have been announced, along with the rest of the significant cast. After auditioning 30,000 children, the makers chose Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger) and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), who would be stepping into the shoes of Daniel Radcliffe , Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint , respectively. Chris Watson gives advice... Chris Watson admitted that the lives of these children are going to change drastically, along with the pressure that no one could imagine. 'As a parent, you have to be scared. This can be a very difficult thing for a parent and child to handle, or not,' he said in an interview with Times Radio. Furthermore, he admitted that there are upsides and downsides when it comes to fame. 'And while there are many upsides, nothing is perfect and you have to recognise, there are going to be a whole load of downsides and some of them you could not have imagined,' Chris stated. Despite the worldwide recognition, Emma Watson has been grounded throughout her career and has championed women's empowerment. 'It certainly helped that I don't actually watch movies. It's not a big thing in the house, and so it was easier for us to keep her feet on the ground,' he continued. Harry Potter is not everything... Moreover, Chris emphasised that it is significant to let the studios know that Harry Potter is not the only thing in life. 'But also just to make sure that the studio and everybody else knew that this was not Emma's whole life, and that, you know, she had homework to do, and we as going to play hockey, she played a little bit of cricket as well,' Chris added. Chris stated that if the parents of the new cast wish to reconnect for any more navigation or want to hear about the experiences, they could contact him.

A film about Sam Altman's OpenAI boardroom chaos is in in the works
A movie about Sam Altman 's wild OpenAI week is in the works, with the chaotic 2023 saga that saw the CEO fired and rehired within just five days now heading to the big screen under acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino for Amazon MGM Studios . The film, titled "Artificial," has Andrew Garfield circling the role of Altman, with Monica Barbaro and Yura Borisov being considered to play former CTO Mira Murati and co-founder Ilya Sutskever respectively, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sutskever was instrumental in Altman's initial ouster. Simon Rich, known for his work on "Saturday Night Live," penned the screenplay and will produce alongside Heyday Films' David Heyman, who's behind the "Harry Potter" franchise and "Barbie." The comedic drama approach seems fitting given the almost absurd nature of the real events. Amazon is reportedly moving at breakneck speed, eyeing a summer production start with filming planned for San Francisco and Italy. The studio has already worked with Guadagnino on "Challengers" and the upcoming Julia Roberts film "After the Hunt." New details from an upcoming book reveal that board members grew alarmed after discovering issues like Altman allegedly owning the OpenAI Startup Fund personally, while Sutskever and Murati compiled evidence of what they viewed as toxic management practices. However, the firing spectacularly backfired. Within days, nearly all OpenAI employees, including Sutskever and Murati themselves, signed a letter demanding Altman's return. The board capitulated, reinstating him as CEO while the rebels who orchestrated his removal eventually left to start their own ventures. The timing couldn't be more perfect for an AI-themed comedy-drama, and the real-life drama had all the elements of a Silicon Valley thriller: corporate intrigue, power struggles, and a remarkable reversal of fortune that left the AI world spinning.
