‘Harassed by a child': Indian-origin family recounts racial abuse in Ireland amid attacks on Indians
Police stand at the front of the Richmond Road Baptist Church as other officers maintain a perimeter following a shooting at the church in Lexington, Ky. AP
Amid a spate of recent attacks on Indians in Ireland, an Indian-origin woman has alleged that her 60-year-old father was racially harassed and subjected to inappropriate behaviour by two young boys at a bus stop in Dublin.
In a Reddit post on August 9, she recounted waiting for a bus with her father and sister when the boys, believed to be around seven or eight years old, approached. They first asked for selfies but soon began mocking her father, with one allegedly trying to grab his wallet.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
'We tried to stay calm and ignored their behaviour. But then, shockingly, one boy blocked my father's way, made grabbing gestures toward his crotch,' she wrote, saying the ordeal left her family 'feeling defenceless.'
'My father, aged 60, was harassed by a child right in front of his daughters, leaving us feeling defenceless. Knowing the current climate for people of colour in Ireland and being aware of the laws, it was frustrating not to have any immediate recourse,' she said.
Citing the 'current climate for people of colour in Ireland,' she urged the Irish government to amend laws so that children can be held accountable for serious misconduct. 'No one should have to feel unsafe or powerless in public spaces, regardless of their background,' the post read.
Multiple attacks against Indians raises concerns
The incident comes after an Indian-origin taxi driver and a six-year-old Indian girl were attacked in separate incidents last week. The Indian Embassy in Ireland has issued an advisory urging the community to stay vigilant, while the Irish Embassy in India condemned the violence, calling it 'an assault on the values of equality and human dignity that Ireland holds dear.'

Georgia CDC shooting: US gunman blamed covid vaccine for depression; Kennedy faces heat
Police at the shooting scene (TOI) A man who opened fire on the headquarters of the US centres for disease control and prevention (CDC) in Atlanta on Friday, killing a police officer, had blamed the covid-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal, a law enforcement official told the news agency AP. The suspect, identified as Patrick Joseph White, 30, was armed with five firearms, including at least one long gun, and tried to enter the CDC compound before being stopped by guards. He then drove across the street and opened fire near a pharmacy, according to the official, who spoke to the agency. White reportedly fired dozens of rounds into the CDC complex on Friday afternoon. Four buildings were hit. CDC staff went into lockdown as investigators scoured the scene. Employees were later advised to work from home. Cop killed, shooter blamed vaccine and pet's death Responding officer David Rose, a 33-year-old former Marine, was fatally shot. He had joined the DeKalb County police in March and was praised for his courage and professionalism. "This evening, there is a wife without a husband. There are three children, one unborn, without a father," said DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. According to the AP report, White's father identified him to the police as the shooter and revealed that he had been emotionally disturbed after the death of his dog and had become fixated on COVID-19 vaccines. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Neighbours also described White as 'deeply unsettled' about vaccines. 'He very deeply believed that vaccines hurt him and were hurting other people,' neighbour Nancy Hoalst told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Authorities have not confirmed whether White was killed by police or died by suicide. CDC employees shaken, Kennedy faces backlash CDC director Susan Monarez confirmed that four CDC buildings were hit. Staff expressed security concerns, with some saying they felt like 'sitting ducks.' A security review has been ordered, and employees were advised to remove CDC parking decals from their cars. Health and human services secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, known for his anti-vaccine stance, condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with CDC staff. 'No one should face violence while working to protect the health of others,' he said in an email. However, former CDC employees and critics said Kennedy's rhetoric contributed to the hostile climate. The group Fired But Fighting called for his resignation, accusing him of 'villainising' the agency's workforce. Kennedy has previously cut $500 million from vaccine development and continues to promote anti-vaccine views.

Indian man claims ladyboys in Pattaya stole ₹4 lakh gold chain after hugging and kissing him
An Indian man in Pattaya, Thailand is claiming that his gold necklace was stolen by two transgender women during a late night walk. Police, however, have raised doubts about his story, pointing to inconsistencies in his account. An Indian man in Pattaya claims his gold chain was stolen during a late night walk (Representational image)(Shutterstock) More about the alleged gold theft According to a report in Thaiger, Hemanth Kumer approached Pattaya Police in the early hours of August 5, claiming that his gold necklace had been stolen. The 27-year-old Indian national and jewellery shop owner said that he was walking on Soi Beach Road 13/2 when two 'ladyboys' approached him. Kumer said the scantily-clad layboys offered escort services, which he refused. He claims that the duo continued to follow him despite his refusal. 'They began touching me and hugging me,' Kumer said. The Indian man managed to get rid of the layboys – as the transgenders are colloquially known – and continued with his walk. Within a few minutes, however, he realised that his gold necklace was missing. Kumer claims the gold necklace weighed 40 grams and was worth 150,000 baht (INR 4 lakh approximately). What police say on the theft Kumer approached Pattaya City Police Station around 2.30 am on August 5 and reported the theft to Police Lieutenant Kriangkrai Kaewphiphop. Based on his description of the alleged thieves, officers were dispatched to scour the area. However, no arrests were made and the suspects were not caught. The superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station also ordered a review of CCTV footage from the area. However, police officers say there are inconsistencies in Kumer's version of events. 'There are inconsistencies in his statement,' said Pol. Lt. Kriangkrai. 'We're investigating all angles. If the report turns out to be false, Kumer could face charges for filing a false complaint.' Officers continue to analyse CCTV videos as they investigate the case. (Also read: Indian tourists in Pattaya complain bar girl's chest was 'too small' after she undressed, call cops at 2:30 am)
