Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom broke her silence on reports of her divorce, confirming on Wednesday that she has indeed separated from husband Onkholer Kom while refuting rumours of an affair. The 42-year-old pugilist responded to a report carried by Hindustan Times on 7 April that speculated the two were 'headed for divorce' after living separately in recent years.
The HT report, which sparked widespread discussion on social media, also quoted an anonymous boxer who claimed that Mary Kom was having an affair 'with another boxer's husband'.

The six-time world champion, who won bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, responded to the reports with a two-page post on X under the letter-head of Rajat Mathur, Advocate Supreme Court, Mary Kom. The legal response was 'issued in response to the Article published in the Hindustan Times EFL, on April 7, 2025 and subsequently engaging various media outlets in unwarranted speculation and unfounded claims regarding the personal life of Ms. M.C. Mary Kom."
'Specifically, the following matters are addressed: 1. Speculations regarding her divorce and separation from her husband, Mr. Onkholer (Onler) Kom, along with related news about him and his current state of affairs. 2. Claims suggesting that she is currently dating Mr. Hitesh Choudhary, who is identified as a business partner and chairman of the Ms. Mary Kom Boxing Foundation,' the letter read.
'In the light of these speculative and incorrect media reports, I wish to issue the following clarifications, as instructed by my client, Ms. M C Mary Kom:
'Ms. M.C. Mary Kom and Mr. Onkholer (Onler) Kom are no longer married and they have finalized their divorce by mutual consent under KOM CUSTOMARY LAW on December 20 2023, in the presence of both family members and leaders of the clan as the adjudicating authorities,' the letter further stated.
'As for the details of their past marriage, my client states that aforesaid speculations, assertions are denied being wrong and incorrect. Any further than this, my client does not wish to state or comment, as this is a matter of the past. She has since moved on with her life positively, in accordance with the mutual agreement signed thereof, the statement further read.

Mary Kom's relationship with Hitesh Choudhary 'strictly under business collaboration'
Mary Kom's response also rubbished claims of an affair with businessman Hitesh Choudhary or with 'another boxer's husband', the boxer's relationship with the latter described one that was 'strictly under business collaboration'.
'The rumours regarding my client's relationship involvement with Mr. Hitesh Choudhary or being in a relationship with another boxer's husband, are categorically denied and should not be propagated by any media platform. It is further stated that Mr. Hitesh Choudhary is working with my client, Mary Kom strictly under business collaboration relationship and any & all speculations beyond it, are specifically denied,' it added.
Mary Kom had met her ex-husband Onkholer, a former footballer, in 2000 with the latter helping her out with her luggage that was stolen during a train journey to Bengaluru. The two began dating shortly after before marrying in 2005. The couple welcomed three sons into their life besides adopting a daughter in 2018.
