Bengaluru: When 'josh' (fervour) got the better of 'hosh' (common sense), or so one thought.
It was a birthday celebration like any other — complete with cake-cutting. Except that the cake wasn't like any other.
It was shaped like a cartridge and what was used to cut it wasn't the average knife, but a machete.
Result: The 'birthday boy' — in this case an autorickshaw driver named Anil Kumar — was arrested and produced in court. Police said he admitted having "acted in josh".
As video clips of the cake-cutting were passed around, someone forwarded those to the jurisdictional cops at Gudibande police station in Chikkaballapur, prompting the law-keepers to sit up, take note and crack down on Kumar, a resident of Vychukurahalli.
The birthday party was held on the night of May 31 at Gudibande, and Kumar was arrested Monday.
Surrounded by friends, colleagues and relatives, Kumar, who had no criminal record, pulled out the machete and cut the cake, even as the guests clapped. This was followed by a cocktail party. Later, Kumar took the machete home. "Immediately after receiving the video, we booked Kumar under Section 126 of Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and produced him in court, where he was fined Rs 1,000.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar (ANI) NEW DELHI: A political slugfest erupted between the BJP and the Congress in Karnataka after a celebratory event for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory turned into a deadly stampede in Bengaluru. As the BJP slammed the Congress-led state government for "gross negligence" and "publicity-driven haste" that led to the loss of lives, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar defended the decision to continue the event after stampede saying the program was shortened to just 10 minutes. Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said, 'I have spoken to the police commissioner and everyone. I will also go to the hospital later. I do not want to disturb the doctors who are taking care of the patients. The exact number cannot be told now. We appeal to the people to remain calm. We shortened the program.
