At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'. In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'. Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'. VIDEO | Here is what MP Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya (@KailashOnline ) says on women who wear skimpy clothes: 'I believe women should dress beautifully in Indian attire, as it is highly regarded in our culture. But, in some other countries, women who wear less clothes are often… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) June 5, 2025 He then went on to say: 'Sometimes girls come to take selfies with me. I tell them – 'Beta, come in proper clothes next time, then we'll take a photo'.' Vijayvargiya's team have refused to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, the Congress claimed the comments 'showed the BJP mentality'. 'Their mentality has been exposed to the public,' Congress spokesperson Abhinav Barolia told The Indian Express. This is not the first time Vijayvargiya has made comments on women's clothing. While attending a Hanuman Jayanti event in Indore in 2023, he remarked: 'I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti… but girls these days wear such filthy clothes… We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way… They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body, at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values'.

‘Spyware-like' apps found in phone of Nagpur woman who crossed over to Pak: Police

'Police have found multiple suspicious applications in her phone which are suspected to be spyware. These apps are being analysed to determine their purpose and origin,' an official of Kapilnagar police station here said. The 43-year-old woman's act of entering Pakistan has sparked security concerns with agencies probing possible espionage links, they said. Nagpur, May 5 (PTI) Police have found suspicious spyware-like applications in the mobile phone of Nagpur-based Sunita Jamgade, who has been held on espionage charges after she crossed over to Pakistan last month before being repatriated, officials said on Thursday. 'Authorities are probing whether she had any accomplices who facilitated her journey to Pakistan or supported her communication channels. The truth behind her motive, the apps and the nature of her chats will only come to light after a detailed forensic and intelligence investigation,' he said. Jamgade had reportedly crossed into Pakistan from Hunderman village in Kargil, which is part of Ladakh union territory. She had left Nagpur with her 13-year-old son on May 4 and reached Kargil, from where she crossed over to Pakistan on May 14, police have earlier said. She had allegedly left behind her son in a hotel before crossing the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistani forces apprehended her after she crossed the border, and held her in custody until she was officially handed over to Indian authorities, they said. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Jamgade was in contact with two Pakistani nationals, identified as Zulfekar and Pastor, before her disappearance. A zero FIR was filed by the Amritsar police, which was later transferred to the Kapil Nagar police station in Nagpur, where she resides, according to them. A team from Kargil in Ladakh also arrived in Nagpur on Monday night to probe the case. PTI COR NP This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Assam teen arrested for death threat to city rapper and demanding one crore extortion

Navi Mumbai: An 18-year-old college student was arrested in Assam for sending a death threat message to city rapper Mohammad Bilal Shaikh, also known as Emiway Bantai, and demanding Rs 1 crore in extortion. The student, Arnav Ramen Kumar Haloi, claimed to be Goldy Brar, an aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and the alleged mastermind of the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. The threat message was sent on May 25, coinciding with the release of an online teaser for a music video in tribute to Moose Wala. ACP Mayur Bhujbal said that Haloi, a first-year student from Sonitpur district, Assam, was arrested by the NRI coastal police team on June 1, six days after an FIR was registered for the death threat and extortion demand. Haloi previously sent threat messages to two famous singers in Bihar and Punjab, but they did not lodge police complaints, which may have emboldened him to target rapper Shaikh. He does not have a criminal record and claimed he was not associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This is being verified by obtaining his mobile CDR details. Haloi stated that his intention was to make quick money by sending death threat messages to extort large sums from famous rappers and singers. An FIR was registered at the NRI coastal police station on May 27 by rapper Shaikh's manager, Pooja Kuila, who received the death threat message on May 25. This was just hours before Emiway Bantai released a music video in tribute to Moose Wala, as a teaser was posted online. The threat message was received while Shaikh was recording a song at his Seawoods studio on the morning of May 25. The message, claiming to be from Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, warned that rapper Emiway Bantai would be killed if he failed to pay Rs one crore within 24 hours. The message also mentioned US-based Rohit Godara, another alleged key member of Bishnoi's gang, suspected to be involved in Moose Wala's murder. ACP Bhujbal stated that the message sender's mobile tower location was traced to Sonitpur district in Assam. The NRI coastal police team went to Assam on May 30 and sought the help of local police to find Haloi's residence address, from where he was arrested on May 31. He was produced before Dhekiajuli court in Sonitpur district, Assam, and his transit remand was obtained. Haloi was brought to Navi Mumbai on June 1 and produced before Belapur JMFC court, which remanded him to police custody until Thursday. An extension of his police custody for two days was obtained as the police are retrieving his previous text messages, which he might have deleted after sending threat messages to others as well.
