Ramadoss should reject BJP and ‘politics of hate', promote peace between the Vanniyars and the Dalits, says VCK MP

The Hindu4 hours ago

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi general secretary and Villupuram MP D. Ravikumar has urged PMK founder S. Ramadoss to reject the BJP and the 'politics of hate' to protect peace and promote development in northern districts of Tamil Nadu, where the Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes live in large numbers.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Ravikumar said his appeal to Dr. Ramadoss — which came after the PMK founder spoke fondly of VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan in an interview — was born out of the concern that Dr. Ramadoss and the PMK should not 'inadvertently' aid the growth of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
'The Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes are two largest communities in the northern districts. If Dr. Ramadoss rejects the BJP, the national party would find it impossible to form a government in the State. It cannot win [in elections] without taking root in the northern districts,' he said.
While Mr. Thirumavalavan had repeatedly rejected any alliance with the PMK or the BJP, Mr. Ravikumar said his appeal to Dr. Ramadoss should not be seen in the context of the 2026 Assembly election, but in the larger context of ensuring peace and calm in society.
Mr. Ravikumar said Dr. Ramadoss's rejection of hate politics against the Scheduled Castes would pave the way for fraternity and peace among the Vanniyars and the Scheduled Castes in the villages. 'If the PMK ends the politics of hate against the Scheduled Castes, the atrocities against the Scheduled Castes will come down. Those who cause trouble to the Scheduled Castes in villages do so because of the shade of protection given by the PMK,' he said. 'Even in the Melpathi temple issue, it was the PMK's advocate, K. Balu, who spoke in support of the social exclusion of the Scheduled Castes from the temple. If the PMK lets go of this kind of politics, the atrocities will come down automatically,' he felt.
The Villupuram MP added that the 'Vanniyar community has a proud history of playing a leading role in progressive politics in the State — it has been an important part of the Dravidian Movement and the Left politics. The Vanniyars do not harbour as much hate against the Scheduled Castes as other communities in the southern districts. If Dr. Ramadoss softens his stance, the Scheduled Castes in the northern districts can rest easy, and this will result in the overall development of the region.'

Classroom ‘scam': ACB summons Sisodia, AAP claims diversion tactic

New Delhi: Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday alleged that BJP was using FIRs as a distraction tactic to hide its own failures in governance. Sisodia was called by the anti-corruption branch in a case related to alleged corruption in the construction of classrooms in state-run schools and was questioned for nearly three years. The former deputy chief minister, who had also the education department in AAP govt when the tenders for the construction of classrooms were floated, alleged that BJP was using investigations to divert attention. "Just like all previous probes led to nowhere, this one will also come to nothing," Sisodia said. He claimed that the ruling party had "failed" to do any "meaningful work" in Delhi since assuming office in Feb and "wasted" 100 days "without improving electricity, water, education or healthcare". "BJP, driven by political vendetta, is misusing its agencies to register FIRs in cases where there is no wrongdoing. This is a completely politically motivated case. In the last 10 years, BJP has used every agency to dig into the lives of AAP leaders, yet found nothing. All they do is file fake FIRs and keep dragging the matter. Nothing came out of it earlier, and nothing will come out of it now," he said. Asserting that the accusations had no basis, the AAP functionary said BJP MP Manoj Tiwari levelled allegations against him in the matter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pedro Carbo: Inicia hoy con Amazon CFD y construye un segundo ingreso. Addressing a press conference, former CM and senior AAP functionary Atishi also termed it as a "fake" case. "In the past ten years, over 200 cases have been filed by BJP-controlled agencies against AAP leaders. But despite extensive investigations, raids and examination of files by ED, CBI, Delhi Police and ACB, not a single rupee of corruption has been recovered from any AAP leader," Atishi said. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that during their time in office, AAP leaders never provided the requested information to the investigating agencies, which resulted in the probe progressing very slowly. "Now that the BJP is in power in Delhi, the investigative agencies are receiving full cooperation, and not only Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, but several other AAP leaders will soon land in jail," Sachdeva claimed.

PM Modi's convoy makes way for ambulance during roadshow in Odisha

The motorcade of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gave way to an ambulance during his road show in Bhubaneswar. A video showed the convoy slowing down to allow the ambulance to overtake as people lined up on the road to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. PM Modi was going to Janata Maidan to attend the first anniversary celebration of the BJP government in Odisha in a roadshow from the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar amid tight security. Thousands of people were standing on both sides of the road to greet him. When the PM's carcade came near the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, an ambulance came on the same route and as the emergency vehicle was carrying a patient to the hospital, the PM's convoy made way for it. It is not the first time that the PM had stopped his cavalcade to facilitate the movement of an ambulance. During a visit to Himachal Pradesh in November 2022, the PM had stopped his convoy to make way for an ambulance to pass in Chambi. In September 2022, PM Modi's convoy had may for an ambulance in Ahmedabad during his Gujarat visit. The car trails stopped in alignment on side of the road for an easy passage of the ambulance as the convoy was on its way to Gandhinagar from Ahmedabad. Once the hospital wagon crossed the path, the security vehicles were seen joining the formation followed by PM Modi's car. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of deliberately keeping tribal communities underdeveloped and branding their regions as "red corridor" for political gains. Addressing a public meeting to mark the first anniversary of Odisha's BJP government, Modi said the saffron party has fulfilled the long-awaited demands of the people as the four gates of Puri Jagannath temple and its 'Ratna Bhandar' (treasury) have been reopened. "The party which ruled India for decades had neglected the tribal community and used them merely for political benefits," he said in an apparent reference to the Congress. He alleged that tribal-dominated regions were "intentionally left backward" during the previous regimes. "Over 125 tribal-dominated districts in the country were affected by Maoists for years. These areas were given a bad name like 'red corridor'. Most of these districts were declared backward, and the then governments did not take the responsibility to develop them," Modi said. On the other hand, Modi said that his government since some years has freed the tribal society from violence and showed them the path to development. "The BJP government took stern action against those spreading violence and at the same time ensured uninterrupted development in tribal areas," he said, adding that it has given dividends for which the Naxal violence is grossly contained. "The Naxal violence is now confined to 20 districts in the country. The pace at which the actions are being taken against the Naxalites, the tribal community will soon get rid of violence. Naxalism will be eradicated from the country and this is Modi's guarantee," the Prime Minister said, adding that the BJP government's priority is to fulfil the dreams of tribals, ease their lives and giving them new opportunities in life.
