Denmark's Bestseller leads $20 mn funding for robotics innovator
While yarn production has long been fully automated, the time may now have come for RMG (ready-made garment) production.
Softwear Automation, creator of autonomous 'Sewbots', secured $20 million in Series B1 funding led by Danish fashion group Bestseller via its Invest FWD platform. The investment will accelerate T-shirt sewing tech completion, scale production, and enhance R&D, supporting on-demand, localised garment manufacturing and addressing industry needs for speed, flexibility, and lower environmental impact.
A pioneer in this field is Softwear Automation, a technology innovator which has developed a fully autonomous sewing solution: they are making robots that can sew clothes – called 'Sewbots'.
Softwear Automation has just announced the successful close of its $20 million Series B1 funding round. The round was led by a strategic investment from BESTSELLER, the Danish fashion company behind brands such as JACK & JONES, VERO MODA, and ONLY. The investment was made through Invest FWD, BESTSELLER's dedicated innovation and investment platform. Current investors also participated in the financing.
From BESTSELLER, CFO Thomas Børglum Jensen states: At BESTSELLER, we look for innovations that can support progress and changes in the fashion industry. We believe that Softwear Automation can help address some of the key challenges we face across the industry – from speed and flexibility to reducing the environmental impact of garment production. We are pleased to support their development and look forward to exploring how their advanced technology can help us move forward.
Thomas Børglum Jensen CFO, BESTSELLER : As part of the collaboration between Softwear Automation and BESTSELLER, CFO Thomas Børglum Jensen, on behalf of BESTSELLER, joins the board of Softwear Automation.
'This partnership with BESTSELLER and the support from Invest FWD are not just a vote of confidence in our technology — they are a powerful catalyst for the future of on-demand and localised apparel manufacturing,' said Palaniswamy "Raj" Rajan, Chairman and CEO of Softwear Automation .
The funding round aims to accelerate the completion of the robotics technology dedicated to t-shirt production, initiate the scaling of production capacity, and strengthen R&D.
The investment from BESTSELLER's innovation and investment platform, Invest FWD, follows a series of other investments made by BESTSELLER in recent years. In total, BESTSELLER has invested more than DKK 200 million in innovative companies that aim to create the materials of the future and contribute to breakthroughs that can assist in the transformation of the fashion industry.
A significant criterion for the investments is that they not only meet BESTSELLER's needs but also help push the entire fashion industry forward.
"When it comes to transforming the fashion industry, it is necessary with a diversified focus. The fashion industry is still linear, so it is crucial for us to also invest in innovative recycling technologies that can transform the clothes we wear today into new garments for the next generation. We have been doing this for several years, and we will intensify these efforts going forward," says Dorte Rye Olsen, Head of Sustainability at BESTSELLER . TDR scam: Bengaluru zonal office of Directorate of Enforcement issues provisional attachment order for assets worth Rs 4 crore
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru zonal office of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) Thursday issued a provisional attachment order for assets worth over Rs 4 crore in connection with the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) scam allegedly involving Valmark Realty Holdings Private Limited (VRHPL) and certain BBMP officials. The attached assets include land and flats belonging to TDR brokers and fake owners, ED said. TDR refers to an award specifying the built-up area an owner of a site or plot can sell or use elsewhere in exchange for land surrendered free of cost to an urban local body for public purposes such as road widening or recreation zones. The investigation is based on an FIR registered by the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). As per the chargesheet, VRHPL, represented by its director, Ratan Lath, obtained development right certificates and sold the TDRs to real estate companies and individuals, making an illegal gain of Rs 27.7 crore. The heirs of the late Revanna, a previous owner, received about Rs 2.7 crore from VRHPL's share. The funds were routed through multiple accounts before being used for real estate purchases and business expenses. ED said the probe so far points to a conspiracy involving brokers, VRHPL, and BBMP officials, who facilitated mutation in favour of previous owners despite the land already being converted into a revenue layout and occupied by third-party buyers. BBMP allegedly issued grossly inflated TDRs based on fabricated mahazars and valuation reports, without taking possession of the land, in violation of its own circulars. What will be price of petrol, diesel if India stops importing oil from Russia? Prices of petrol, diesel will reach…,Indian customers will have to pay…
India-Russia relations- File image New Delhi: In a significant update amid the trade talks between India and the US and Donald Trump imposing an additional 25% tariff on India, taking the total tariff to 50% due to India's continued crude oil purchase from Russia, reports are now talking about the inflationary impact if India stops buying oil from Russia. Notably, Russia become India's largest oil supplier since the Russia-Ukraine war and is currently supplying 35% to 40% of India's oil needs. Why Donald Trump imposed tariffs on India? In a massive action against India, the United States, under the leadership of Donald Trump imposed tariffs on India as India continued to purchase crude oil from Russia. In response to the move, India clarified its stand and said that it buys Russian oil because Europe stopped sourcing from Moscow. How much loss will India face if Russia cuts imports? As per experts, if India cuts Russian import of crude oil to India, India will have to rely more on costlier oil from West Asia, Africa, the US, and Latin America, which will pose technical, economic, and strategic challenges. More notably, the shifting could raise annual costs by Rs 25,000–40,000 crore for Indian refiners, which would ultimately hit the budgets of Indian consumers. Earlier, a SBI report has also indicated that the fuel bill might increase by USD 9 billion in FY26 and USD 11.7 billion in FY27 if Russia cuts its crude oil imports to India. US President Trump on whether US will impose additional 25 pc tariffs on India? In a significant statement and a matter of good news for India, US President Trump said the US may not impose secondary tariffs on countries continuing to buying Russian crude oil. Speaking to Fox News aboard Air Force One en route to Alaska, he said that, 'Well, he (Vladimir Putin) lost an oil client, so to speak, which is India, which was doing about 40 per cent of the oil. China, as you know, is doing a lot…'. (With inputs from agencies)

50% US Tariff Casts Shadow Over India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement Talks
New Delhi: The sixth round of talks scheduled to finalise the outline of the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between India and the US has been postponed. Government sources said the American delegation was scheduled to come from August 25 to 29 to hold negotiations on the bilateral trade agreement. The decision by the US trade delegation comes at a time when the deadline to implement US President Donald Trump's decision to impose 50 per cent tariffs on India will come into effect (on August 27). Talks between Mr Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska have also yielded no concrete outcome. Earlier, India and the US failed to reach an agreement on a mini trade deal. One of the main reasons was the US' demand for lower duties on agricultural and dairy products, which India declined. India has made it clear that it cannot allow the import of genetically modified (GM) foods. During his address from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said India's farmers, cattle-rearers and fishermen are the government's top priority. "I stand as a wall against any harmful policy concerning them. India will never accept any compromise when it comes to the interests of farmers, cattle-rearers and fishermen," PM Modi said. A senior Commerce Ministry official told NDTV US officials verbally expressed their inability to visit India, so both countries have decided to reschedule the sixth round of talks soon. The India-US bilateral trade agreement began in March this year, with the aim of concluding its first phase by October-November this year. Several virtual meetings between the two sides have already taken place. India is currently reviewing the implications of the recent developments. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is consulting all stakeholders to assess their feedback, sources said. India's major exports to the US include mobile phones, cut and polished gemstones, textiles, and pharmaceutical products. The imposition of the 50 per cent reciprocal tariffs is expected to impact these four sectors the most. Labor-intensive sectors like textiles are projected to suffer particularly. "Boosting the morale of stakeholders (exporters) is essential. Everyone passed a resolution expressing their full support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Exporters also stated that they will explore alternative markets," Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh told NDTV on Wednesday after a long meeting with large textile exporters. The meeting discussed the strategies required to deal with the impact of the 50 per cent US tariffs. Textile exporters demanded financial assistance from the Union minister to cope with the tariffs and also suggested the introduction of a relief package.
