Dozens of Erie County High School students took part in a Teen Driver Safety Competition on Tuesday.
Roughly 45 students were challenged through a series of obstacles on a course, pre-trip vehicle assessments, perception and written tests.
EHCA residents bust a move at adult prom
The competition is put on by several community safety partners in hopes of encouraging safe driving habits in young people as the summer approaches.
'Once you get your driver's license, you don't do any of that anymore. This is the perfect opportunity to bring back what you had to learn to get your driver's license,' said Dale Knox, safety specialist at Vorzik Transport and PMTA representative. 'With what they learn here, they will carry with them for the rest of their driving career.'
Outdoor Classroom opens for the season at ExpERIEnce Children's Museum
The first place winner gets $1,000, $500 for second and $300 for third place. The school with the highest average score also gets $500 for its student council.
Knox hopes to expand this into a state competition.

How will the Trump admin. affect the auto industry? Local car salesman weighs in

How will changes by the Trump administration impact the automobile industry? From signing an executive order to eliminate the electric vehicle mandate to proposing higher tariffs on parts imported from other countries, changes are coming. What's next for EVs as Trump moves to revoke Biden-era incentives? Benjamin Jefferys, Hallman Hyundai's sales manager, said demand for electric vehicles has doubled in the last couple of years but is still just at 10%. He said many dealerships are now overstocked with electric vehicles due to the Biden administration's mandates. EHCA celebrates arrival of new CEO Jonathan Rilling Even with Trump's executive order, Jefferys thinks customers will continue to buy electric vehicles as long as the $7,500 tax incentive for customers doesn't go away and they stay affordable. 'I think that the bottom line is that until electric vehicles are similarly convenient and affordable, you're not going to see them have the same mass market appeal as regular vehicles or hybrid vehicles,' said Jefferys. Jefferys added it's hard to predict the impact of proposed increased tariffs but thinks automobile manufacturers are better prepared to deal with supply chain changes than ever since the pandemic.
