Jeeno Thitikul rises to No. 1 in Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings
Thitikul first ascended to the top of the Rolex Rankings on Oct 31, 2022, and held the position for two weeks. She is the second Thai player to reach Rolex Rankings No. 1, along with Ariya Jutanugarn.
'I am very grateful to become the No. 1 player in the world for the second time. This is not just about me – this is about my family, my team and my friends, not to mention the amazing support I feel from my fans in Thailand and all around the world,' said Thitikul. 'There are so many incredible golfers competing every week and I will work my hardest to make sure I am a strong representative of our game.'
Thitikul has recorded eight top-10 finishes this season, the most on the LPGA Tour. She captured the title at the Mizuho Americas Open, finished solo second at the Amundi Evian Championship and earned a tie for second at the HSBC Women's World Championship.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor begin their Asean Club Championship journey tonight with the toughest of openers - away to reigning champions Buriram United at the Chang Arena in Thailand. The Thai treble winners, who lifted the inaugural crown in May after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Vietnam's Cong An Ha Noi, are widely regarded as the benchmark in South-East Asian football. Striker Chrigor Moraes, who leads the line for the Red Giants and a former Buriram player himself, certainly knows the score. But he insists the team must balance respect for Buriram with belief in themselves. "Because Buriram are such a strong team, it's very difficult to play them at their home ground," said the Brazilian. "But I remind my teammates we must be strong and concentrated. We too have good players, and I believe we can take the game to them. As for Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi, he sees the tough challenge of taking on Buriram as a great opportunity. "This kind of game definitely makes us stronger,' said the Japanese tactician. "Buriram have 16 foreigners in their squad. I don't know who will play against us but we are looking forward to see what they bring. For us, the focus is to keep our style, concentrate on our football and fight 100 percent. That's our preparation." Kinoshi, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Serbian national team, knows the scale of the task ahead. Buriram not only boast depth but also pedigree, with several players of international calibre. "They are one of the strongest teams in South-East Asia, along with Johor Darul Ta'zim. But last season, we earned the right to face these kinds of teams. "I am very proud of my players and our work. To be here, to be playing Buriram, is an honour. Now we must show our style against them." Selangor head into their debut on the Asean stage after finishing as runners-up to JDT in both the Super League and FA Cup last season. The Chang Arena has long been a fortress for Buriram and Selangor will be wary of the champions' ability to punish mistakes. For Selangor, the trip to Buriram is more than just a group-stage opener; it is a statement of intent. And whether they leave Thailand with points or not, Kinoshi has made it clear that the Red Giants will not compromise on their identity. "We must show our football. We must fight and we must be proud to play against one of Asia's best.'

Japan's Iwai wins The Standard Portland Classic
JAPAN'S Akie Iwai became the 10th Rolex First Time Winner of the 2025 LPGA Tour season with a four-stroke victory at The Standard Portland Classic at Columbia Edgewater Country Club on Sunday. With a four-round total of 24-under-par 264 (67-67-64-66), Iwai joined her twin sister Chisato as a rookie winner in 2025. American Gurleen Kaur finished a career-best second on 20-under-par 268 (65-68-70-65), one shot clear of Chisato (69-70-66-64) and Sweden's Linn Grant (66-71-65-67). 2025 Amundi Evian Championship winner Grace Kim of Australia was sole fourth on 18-under-par 270 (68-65-67-70). Starting the final round with a two-shot lead over Kim, Iwai was the picture of steadiness as she notched six birdies on a blemish-free scorecard. The 23-year-old from Saitama birdied her last two holes to pull away from the pack, picking up a cheque for US$300,000 to take her season earnings past the US$1 million (RM4.2m) mark. Playing her first season on the LPGA Tour after earning her card with a tied fifth finish at Final Qualifying last December, Iwai had second-place finishes at the Honda LPGA Thailand in February and the JM Eagle LA Championship in April. The six-time Japan LPGA Tour winner watched her sister win in Mexico in May, and has now joined her as an LPGA Tour winner. Iwai is the fifth player from Japan to win on the LPGA Tour in 2025, the most ever in a single season, following Chisato (MEXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba), Rio Takeda (Blue Bay LPGA), Mao Saigo (The Chevron Championship) and Miyu Yamashita (AIG Women's Open). All are LPGA Tour rookies except for Saigo. 'So many Japanese players won this year, so that inspired me. Everybody played well this year, so everything inspired me to play better,' said Iwai, who is a minute older than her sister. The Iwai twins join Jessica and Nelly Korda, Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn, and Annika and Charlotta Sorenstam, as sisters who have won on the LPGA Tour. Dating back to 1972, The Standard Portland Classic is the longest continuous event on the LPGA Tour outside of the Majors. JDT and Selangor carry Malaysia's challenge in Asean Club C'ships
PETALING JAYA: Super League clubs Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Selangor will fly the Jalur Gemilang as the second edition of the Asean Club Championships kicks off this week. Both clubs have been handed blockbuster opening fixtures. Treble winners JDT, who swept the Malaysia Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup last season, make their long-awaited debut in the regional competition with a Causeway clash against Singapore's Lion City Sailors at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Thursday (Aug 21). The Sailors, fresh off their own domestic double, will be looking for redemption after failing to progress beyond the group stage last year. On Wednesday (Aug 20), Selangor face an equally daunting task when they travel to Thailand to meet reigning champions Buriram United at the Chang Arena in Buriram. The Thai giants are defending not only their regional crown – secured in a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over Vietnam's Cong An Ha Noi in May – but also a domestic treble. Selangor, runners-up to JDT in both league and cup competitions last season, will be making their first appearance on the South-East Asian stage. The competition brings together the region's best, split into two groups of six. Each club will play five matches in the group phase – either home or away – with the top sides advancing to the knockouts.
