Carnival Cruise Line fixes massive passenger pain point
It's amazing how a seemingly small improvement to the design of a basic item can sometimes dramatically increase its value for users.
In a cruise ship cabin where space is very limited, thoughtful design that equips a room with multipurpose features and devices makes the small room so much more manageable for passengers.As cruise lines introduce new innovations to ship design, tiny staterooms get more comfortable with each new ship class.
But it's not just new ships that get these enhancements. Older ships can often be updated with innovative new features that elevate the passenger experience.
Carnival Cruise Line's latest upgrades to some of its 20-year-old ships prove that.
The cruise line's brand ambassador, John Heald, recently showed off one new cabin enhancement on his popular Facebook page that stirred excitement among thousands of the cruise line's loyal guests.The brand ambassador posted a photo of a new bedside lamp that the cruise line recently added to staterooms on Carnival Valor, as well as other cruise ships in its fleet that were recently updated during routine dry dock maintenance.
'We added these new lamps on the Carnival Valor during dry dock and will be doing this to other ships in future dry docks. They have USB and the smaller one [USB-C] and a power plug for things like CPAP perhaps,' Heald said.
As he often does with ship features and enhancements, Heald asked his followers for feedback on the new lamps and their charging ports to determine if the majority of passengers would find them useful.More than 12,500 Carnival cruisers weighed in through comments on the post, and the results were overwhelming in favor of putting the lamps on as many ships as possible.
'I've been waiting for this moment my whole life,' Julie Jebaily commented. 'And I'll only use it for my cell phone charger because the USB outlets never charge my devices.'
'Best change made to cabins in 20 years,' Keith Bruce agreed.
Many Carnival passengers insist that there are never enough power outlets in cabins, especially on older ships.Heald's post about the new lamps was especially popular with cruisers who use CPAP machines when they sleep. These passengers typically have to pack extension cords for their cruises to meet their CPAP power needs.
'As a CPAP user it will make things much easier because I won't have to have an extension cord stretched across my cabin floor at night. That makes midnight potty runs really dangerous,' Mick Kyte explained.
'I love the functionality. I can charge my phone and plug in my CPAP all in one lamp — and I don't have to bring an extension cord with me,' Jeremy Rynca added. 'That will help give me (my wife) more room to overpack clothes.'
More Carnival cruise news:Some passengers noted though that it would be more helpful if the lamp was not bolted down in the middle of the table as they're currently positioned on the ships that recently received them.
'They should be towards the front or the back so you actually have room for the CPAP or whatever you are plugging into the outlet,' Avril Lawshé suggested.
Hopefully, after reviewing the helpful passenger feedback gathered by its brand ambassador, Carnival will make an adjustment to improve the lamp placement as they're added on more ships.

Traditions continue at 71st Westmoreland Fair
Friday was the first day of the Westmoreland Fair, one of the biggest events in the county. KDKA-TV stopped by to see all the food, rides and entertainment that's in store for families. Many people are continuing family traditions at the Westmoreland Fair. "It's grandkids day for us. The kids come out here every year," said Joseph Bartlow. There are plenty of reasons to smile at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Mount Pleasant Township. You can catch some thrills on the carnival rides. "The gators and trains," said Bartlow with his grandchild. "We like the rides, for sure. The Ferris wheel," said Haley Accamando. You can also make new friends at the petting zoo. They've got goats, cows, alpacas and more. And you can't forget to pig out on some of the fair's treats like candy apples, funnel cake and lemonade. "What do you think, the corndogs? The corndogs," Accamando said. "You walk through this place, and you can spend a ton on the food, and the kids like it. It gets them out of the house and away from computers," Bartlow said. There are also vendors selling flowers, baked goods and more. There are plenty of events to enjoy, too, like tractor pulls and demolition derbies. And 4-H members get to show off all their hard work at the animal shows. There's something for everyone all nine days at the fair, which has been a timeless tradition for 71 years. "Just making sure the kids have a good time. We're building a memory," said Bartlow. "We hope everybody comes out and enjoys it," Accamando said. The Westmoreland Fair ends Aug. 23. Tickets are $10 and include rides and parking. Kids age 2 and under get in free.

New Carnival Festivale aims to make a splash with families
You haven't seen a water park like this, at least not at sea. Carnival is building what it's calling "the most family-friendly water park at sea – and biggest in Carnival history" aboard its new Festivale ship, debuting in 2027. The cruise line previously said the ship would feature six water slides and Carnival's first nighttime WaterWorks experiences. Now Carnival is sharing more details on its family-friendly offerings. Here's what families should know about the new Carnival Festivale, which just opened bookings. Fun for the whole family Carnival Festivale is focusing heavily on families with 1,000 interconnecting rooms. That's almost 70% more than the Excel class ships before it, according to the cruise line. A crown jewel of the ship will be Sunsation Point, a three-deck outdoor entertainment area which Carnival calls "the ultimate family adventure zone." Deck 16 will offer the all-ages Vista Pool, a splash pad for babies and family-friendly eats like Big Chicken and Swirls ice cream. Deck 17 will include a retro-inspired arcade, the Scenic Overlook Bar with outdoor games, a new mini golf course that will be lit at night, a toddler playground and a new Treehouse adventure trail with obstacles, netted bridges and a slide. Deck 18 will house the new Carnival WaterWorks Ultra water park, which will offer evening hours on select nights, as well as live DJs. Two of the water slides will be family rafts. The other four include racing slides for big kids and little ones. There will also be splash pads and shaded play spaces. Elsewhere on the ship, there will be a new space just for the Carnival Turtles program for kids ages six months to two years old. Carnival says all of the Festivale's youth spaces will be enhanced. Musical inspiration Music is another recurring theme for the Festivale. Near the ship's atrium, guests will find Studio 724, a multi-level high live entertainment zone with music-themed bars, lounges and live music. "Through interactive experiences powered by technology, the vibrant zone reacts in real time to sound with synchronized lights and animations to capture the creative energy of mixing, recording, and listening to music, inviting guests to become part of the musical journey rather than simply observe it," Carnival said in a news release. On Deck 6, guests will find The Spark, which Carnival describes as "a vibrant setting designed to embody the art of songwriting, as well as cocktails inspired by iconic songs and nightly live music." This deck will also be home to the cruise line's Piano Bar 88 and Alchemy Bar, which will have an enhanced, dedicated space near the atrium. On Deck 7, Carnival says guests can "craft their own unique drink by layering flavor 'tracks' beneath a turntable-themed bar" at Mix Bar or visit the Limelight Louge, which will have a redesigned look in line with Festivale's music theme. Up on Deck 8, guests will find another zone called the Festival, with outdoor music festival vibes, a colorful promenade and multiple eateries including Festival Grounds Coffee & Bar, Pizza Palooza and Rhythm & Rolls Deli. Carnival Festivale sailings The Carnival Festival will homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida and focus on Caribbean itineraries. However, its maiden voyage will be a transatlantic sailing leaving Southhampton, England on May 2, 2027. The ship will stop at ports in Spain, Portugal and Turks and Caicos before arriving at Port Canaveral. Its first Florida-based sailing will be a four-day Bahamas voyage, departing on May 19, 2027 with stops at Carnival's private island destinations, Celebration Key and RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. After that, the Festivale will mainly offer six or or eight-day cruises through the Eastern and Southern Caribbean, all visiting Celebration Key. More than 50 sailings are open for booking. How many decks are on Carnival Festivale? There will be 19 decks on the Fesitvale, according to its ship plan. Up to 6,400 guests will be able to sail on the 180,000 gross-ton ship.
