Omniplex cinema announces closure for refurbishments
The cinema has been undergoing renovations to its screen since it was taken over in December 2023.
(Image: Supplied) Paul John, director of the company, revealed to the Glasgow Times earlier this year some of the big changes set to come customers' way.
He said: "We've converted eight of the 10 screens, which we finished in May 2024. The two largest screens we have converted into an Omniplex Maxx, which is a wall-to-wall screen.
"The rooms have 38 speakers dotted around the room, in the ceiling, on the walls, on the screen, which creates a 3D sound that's really advanced.
"We'll be converting the dining area into a lounge, and we will be offering hot food in a truck called Joe's, where you can buy pizzas by the slice.
"Hopefully, we will have alcohol too, draught beers and wine as well as other hot foods like chicken burgers, which can be taken into the movie screens.
"You'll be able to order from your seats in the Maxx screens and to the lounge area through QR codes."

The closure is anticipated to allow the last stages of the work to take place.

However, the renovations were paused and restarted this summer in order for the dining area refurbishment to be completed.

Despite a large investment in the cinema, we recently reported how the facility had experienced intentional damage to its new seating, including ripped cushions and vandalised fabric.
Last month, Omniplex bosses hit out at those responsible, saying they were "extremely disappointed" after the incidents.
