Dr. Becky Shares the #1 Mistake Parents Make When Bringing Home a New Baby

Yahoo9 hours ago

If you haven't heard, Peppa Pig has just become a big sister again. The family of four—Mommy Pig, Daddy Pig, Peppa and George—welcomed baby Evie into their world...and Dr. Becky is here to help make the transition a little less...muddy.
Seriously. The beloved parenting expert and clinical psychologist has partnered with Hasbro to bring us Muddy Puddle Parenting, a new Peppa Pig initiative that offers playful, practical and educational content featuring Dr. Becky. Think navigating tantrums, bedtime, big feelings, and of course, new additions.
In the YouTube premiere series, Dr. Becky shares trusted guidance with Mummy and Daddy Pig on how to prepare Peppa and George for the arrival of a new baby, and how to help the whole family adjust after baby Evie's arrival, replete with tried-and-true strategies, practical tips and advice that help parents foster strong sibling bonds, build emotional resilience and encourage healthy family dynamics.
With my own little IRL Peppa (4) and George (18 months)—we even took them to see the Baby Evie episode at the movie theater—it felt apropos to reach out to Dr. Becky on this Peppa-laced occasion, and ask the tough questions. Namely: What's the biggest mistake parents make when bringing home a new baby. Here's what the Good Inside author told me.
Charlie Flint
While Dr. Becky doesn't call it a mistake, she says that one "common trap" is overemphasizing the 'big kid' role. "We think we're helping by saying things like 'You're such a big sibling now!'—but what kids often hear is: 'You're not allowed to have little-kid feelings anymore,'" she shares.
Dr. Becky continues: "The truth is, kids want to feel both big and little. They want to pour their own cereal and still curl up in your lap. When we push them too far into the 'big' identity, we can unintentionally cause more acting out or regression."
Eek. Anyone else guilty of this? Here's what do try instead, guides the expert:
"Instead, let your child know they don't have to give up their 'little-ness' just because a baby is here. Say things like: 'Even big siblings need extra snuggles. I've got you.' That keeps the connection strong—and helps your child feel seen exactly as they are."
If you know anything about Dr. Becky, connection is everything. And if you know anything about Peppa...welcome to the muddy puddle that is parenting.

Pedro Pascal Called Out J.K. Rowling's ‘Heinous Loser Behavior' Over Anti-Trans Law Because ‘Bullies Make Me F—ing Sick': ‘I Want to Protect the People I Love'

Pedro Pascal said in a new Vanity Fair cover story that 'bullies make me fucking sick' when the topic of J.K. Rowling was brought up. The 'Harry Potter' author has regularly courted controversy since 2020 for sharing anti-trans views on social media. Pascal's younger sister, Lux, came out as transgender in 2021. The actor made headlines in late April for slamming Rowling's 'heinous loser behavior' after she celebrated the U.K. Supreme Court's anti-trans ruling that transgender women are not legally considered women and transgender men are not legally considered men. Pascal's other sister, Javiera, defended her brother's comment, telling Vanity Fair: 'But it is heinous loser behavior. And he said that as the older brother to someone saying that our little sister doesn't exist.' More from Variety J.K. Rowling Raves About HBO's 'Harry Potter' Series After Working 'Closely' With the Writers: 'I've Read the First Two Episodes. They Are So, So Good' From 'Andor' and 'The Studio' to Selena Gomez and Pedro Pascal, 14 Possible Emmy Records and Milestones in Sight Emmys Acting Contenders: From Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Who Was Officially Submitted As the comment went viral across social media, Pascal said he briefly felt like 'that kid that got sent to the principal's office a lot for behavioral issues in public schools feeling scared and thinking, 'What'd I do?'' But he knew he could not stay silent as Rowling celebrated the anti-trans ruling, which she did by posting a victory photo of herself drinking with the caption: 'I love it when a plan comes together.' 'The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, 'Am I helping? Am I fucking helping?'' Pascal told the magazine. 'It's a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected. Listen, I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me fucking sick.' In the aftermath of Pascal's comment, some of Rowling's defenders started sharing a viral clip of the actor taking his 'Fantastic Four' co-star Venessa Kirby's hand at Comic-Con in order to somehow prove Pascal is presumptuous with women. But Kirby isn't having that. 'What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic,' Kirby told Vanity Fair. 'He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back.' Pascal was far from the only prominent celebrity to condemn the U.K. Supreme Court's decision. Actors such as his 'The Last of Us' co-star Bella Ramsey and 'Bridgerton' favorite Nicola Coughlan all signed an open letter opposing the anti-trans ruling. 'We the undersigned film and television professionals stand in solidarity with the trans, non-binary and intersex communities who have been impacted by the Supreme Court ruling on April 17,' the letter read. 'The Supreme Court's ruling that, under the Equality Act, 'woman' is defined by biological sex, states that 'the concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man'. We believe the ruling undermines the lived reality and threatens the safety of trans, non-binary and intersex people living in the UK.' Another signee of the letter was 'I May Destroy You' Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu, who just so happens to be taking on the role of Severus Snape in HBO's 'Harry Potter' television series. Rowling is closely involved in the development of the show but wrote on X that she has no problem with cast members who think differently than her. 'I don't have the power to sack an actor from the series and I wouldn't exercise it if I did,' Rowling wrote on X while sharing an article about Essiedu signing the letter. 'I don't believe in taking away people's jobs or livelihoods because they hold legally protected beliefs that differ from mine.' Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez celebrity-filled party has venue shake-up: report

Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez have decided to change one of their wedding venues in Venice because of security concerns and possible protests, according to reports. The couple had planned to hold a wedding party at the historic Scuola Grande della Misericordia in the Cannaregio section of the city, but are now moving it to the harder-to-reach Arsenale, a former shipyard, which is completely surrounded by water and only reachable by boat when connecting bridges are raised, BBC News and Reuters reported. The city in recent days has seen increasing protests by people concerned celebrity guests will overrun Venice with private jets and yachts. Other protesters also disagree with the Amazon founder's politics. A number of celebrities are invited to the wedding festivities, which remain a secret but are expected to kick off on Thursday and end Saturday in the picturesque Italian city. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner arrived in Italy on Tuesday ahead of the festivities. The couple traveled by boat from the Marco Polo airport in Venice to the St. Regis hotel. Trump wore an off-white cropped top with a matching long skirt. The outfit featured red-orange detailing. Kushner kept it casual with a linen button down and khaki pants. The former government advisor to father-in-law Donald Trump accessorized with sunglasses and a New York Yankees ball cap. Philanthropist and fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg also arrived in Italy on Tuesday. The Belgian fashion designer wore a colorful striped suit with a black top underneath as she arrived at Venice's Marco Polo Airport. Bezos and Sánchez debuted their relationship in 2019 after Sánchez separated from Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell and Bezos divorced his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott. The couple's engagement was announced in May 2023. Bezos proposed using a 30-carat pink diamond ring estimated to be worth between $3 million and $5 million. Between 200 and 250 guests, including many rumored celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Leonardo DiCaprio, are expected to attend. "No Space for Bezos," the group leading the protests, has more demonstrations planned for Saturday in the city. The group also took credit for forcing the wedding venue to move. "The news that Bezos has run away from the Misericordia is a great victory for us," Tommaso Cacciari, a leader of the "No Space for Bezos" campaign, told Reuters. The protests were criticized by the president of the Veneto region, which includes Venice, Luca Zaia, who said the wedding festivities could bring tens of millions of dollars in much-needed revenue to the city. The couple, on their wedding invitation, asked guests to make donations to three Venetian charities in lieu of gifts, according to Good Morning America. The charities include the UNESCO Venice office, to "safeguard this city's irreplaceable cultural heritage," CORILA "to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice's future" and Venice International University "to support research and education for sustainable solutions." The couple have also pushed back on the idea that their nuptials will overrun the city, which is already crowded with tourism. The couple's wedding planners told Fox News Digital that Bezos and Sánchez specifically instructed them to minimize the disruptions to the best of their ability out of respect to the locals. "As event organizers who have been working in Venice for over 24 years, we feel obliged to set the record straight given the misinformation, untruths and misunderstandings circulating about the Bezos wedding," the team at Lanza & Baucina Limited said in a statement. "From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events. "Rumors of 'taking over' the city are entirely false and diametrically opposed to our goals and to reality," the statement continued. "No exaggerated quantity of water taxis or gondolas have ever been booked, the number of taxis reserved being proportionate for the number of guests. Before the recent news of protests arose, we had worked for there to be minimal negative impact or disruption to the lives of Venetians and the city's visitors. "We have always acknowledged the wider debate and critical issues surrounding the city's future, and from the outset our client has been honored to support the city and its all-important lagoon through non-profit organizations and associated projects," the statement concluded.
