Louis Theroux: The Settlers review — going toe to toe with extreme ideology

It has been 14 years since Louis Theroux made a documentary about Jewish settlers, and now he is back with another. His 2011 film The Ultra Zionists was praised by some and criticised by others. 'No piece of coverage will please everyone,' he wrote about his new film, Louis Theroux: The Settlers (BBC2). 'I trust my instincts. I accept mine is just one contribution in the vast offering of coverage.'
If the settlers we met here were wary of Theroux returning with his signature faux naivety, it didn't show. He was welcomed into their homes in the West Bank, some still only half-built, and given access to people who didn't hesitate to say exactly what they believed. 'I believe that Gaza is ours and we

Israeli FM condemns attack on Jewish jeweller in Tunisia

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has condemned an attack on a Tunisian Jewish jeweller on the island of Djerba, urging Tunisian authorities to implement all necessary measures to protect the Jewish community. Writing on his X account, Sa'ar stated: 'I strongly condemn the attack that targeted a member of the Jewish community in Djerba, Tunisia, today. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.' He continued: 'This attack comes two years after the previous bloody attack that claimed the lives of Jews and members of the security forces during the Lag B'Omer celebrations.' Tunisian media had previously reported that a Tunisian Jewish jeweller was attacked with a sharp object, resulting in severe injuries to his hand. According to reports, a dispute erupted between the jeweller and the attacker, though the reasons remain unclear. The LDJ website quoted Yaniv, son of the Chief Rabbi of Djerba and owner of a nearby jewellery store, recounting the incident during a telephone call with Chief Rabbi Moshe Lewin. Yaniv said, 'Yesterday, the assailant went around the shops in the area, asking if they were owned by Jews, and then returned this morning carrying a large knife.' Yaniv noted that the victim 'survived thanks to the brave and quick intervention of the neighbours, who are themselves members of the Jewish community.' An unverified video of the attack has been circulated online by activists. No official statement has yet been issued regarding the incident, but sources close to the matter reported that the assailant is a resident of Ajim city on Djerba who lives in a working-class neighbourhood in the capital. A dispute reportedly broke out between the victim and 'Youssef Y.', the owner of a jewellery store in the area, which escalated until the assailant drew a knife. Both parties were subsequently brought under control and transferred to the National Security District headquarters in Djerba. The shop owner sustained a minor elbow injury in the incident. His condition is described as normal, and he is currently in the custody of local National Security.

Kanye West says he's received 'death threats' after controversial 'incest' lyrics

Kanye West has recently come forward with the startling revelation that he's been receiving death threats after confessing to an incestuous encounter with his male cousin. The 47-year-old rap mogul, whose estranged wife Bianca Censori reportedly gave a brutal ultimatum to save their marriage , made headlines last week with a barrage of bombshell statements while promoting his latest tracks. In a jaw-dropping admission tied to his new song "Cousins," Kanye disclosed: "My name is Ye, and I sucked my cousins d--- till I was 14." Following this personal disclosure, the artist behind hits like "Carnival" - who recently claimed his reportedly antisemitic tweets mean he hasn't seen his kids this year - took to social media to share a concerning update, claiming that the threats to his life have intensified since he exposed this family secret. He went on to advocate: "Study Torah daily because it brings life and blessing," a statement that sharply contrasts his earlier controversial remarks about Judaism and related topics, reports the Express US . West posted a series of inspiring spiritual quotes from the Torah, beginning with: "Pray with sincerity not just with words. Always seek to bring peace between people. Saving one life is like saving the whole world. Serve God with joy and gladness of heart. Bring happiness to others and inherit the World to Come." He urged his followers on X to focus on gratitude and compassion every day, adding: "Bless God every day for the miracles of life. Emulate God's mercy by being kind and compassionate. Accept hardships with faith that they are for good. Torah study protects the soul from the evil inclination. Those who study Torah at night are surrounded by grace during the day. Give charity in secret without seeking honor. Speak kindly to everyone and spread peace." Kanye continued to express his spiritual views, emphasizing the importance of sincerity and repentance in daily life. He wrote: "Worship God with sincerity because He desires the heart. Repentance has the power to heal the world. Humility allows the Torah to take root in a person. Find a reason to rejoice every single day." Kanye West has claimed to have received "death threats" (Image: (Image: Getty)) The musician wrapped up his extended tweet with a message for compassion and understanding, saying: "Judge others favorably and spread kindness. The purpose of the Torah is to bring peace to the world." West shared a personal story behind his track "COUSINS," which delves into family trauma. He revealed the song's inspiration: "This song is called COUSINS about my cousin that's locked in jail for life for killing a pregnant lady a few years after I told him we wouldn't 'look at dirty magazines together' anymore." He expressed a deep sense of guilt, admitting: "Perhaps in my self-centered mess, I felt it was my fault that I showed him those dirty magazines when he was six, and then we acted out what we saw." The song has sparked controversy due to Kanye's explicit lyrics reflecting on his past with his cousin. In the lyrics, he raps: "Hanging with my cousin reading dirty magazines / We seen some n-as kiss, and we ain't know what that s–t mean / Then we start reenacting everything that we had seen / That's when I gave my cousin head." He goes on to say: "People tell me take it to my grave," and adds: "'Truth will set you free someday.' I don't think they understand that I'm not attracted to a man." The music video for "Cousins" features jarring imagery, including raw home-video footage, provocative visuals like a woman with swastikas for nipples, a sign that reads "4 f----ts," and a burning cross. In a heartfelt moment on Jimmy Kimmel's show in 2018, Kanye opened up, saying: "My cousin is locked up for murder, and I love him. He did a bad thing, but I still love him." Kardashian, the entrepreneur behind SKIMS, also mentioned the cousin during a meeting with Marc M. Howard, who leads the Frederick Douglass Project for Justice, in April 2020. She detailed the family's plight: "Kanye's aunt, my husband's aunt, his cousin has a double life sentence for a murder that he committed when he was 17."
