Swarovski Unveils Summer Terrace Takeover at Cracco Portofino in Italy

CairoScene09-06-2025
The Austrian crystal brand reveals a new terrace experience at one of Portofino's most prominent dining destinations.
This summer, the glamour of Swarovski meets the charm of the Italian Riviera as the Austrian crystal house transforms the terrace of Cracco Portofino into a sparkling seasonal escape. Overlooking the marina and shaded in signature hues, the new Swarovski Terrace invites guests into a branded experience that fuses coastal leisure with precision design—just in time for the height of the Portofino social calendar.
Building on the concept first introduced during the 'Masters of Light: From Vienna to Milan' exhibition in 2024, the new Portofino iteration carries over similar aesthetic elements, including the use of vibrant colours and crystal-themed decor. The outdoor terrace has been redesigned with branded parasols, a welcome desk at sea level, and a Swarovski-branded octagonal frame positioned for scenic photographs.
Guests visiting the terrace will be able to sample a curated menu featuring sweet and savoury items, including a bespoke cocktail and dessert developed in collaboration with chef Carlo Cracco. The dishes will be served on Swarovski x Rosenthal porcelain tableware, designed by Swarovski's Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert.
Located along the Gulf of Tigullio, Cracco Portofino is known for highlighting regional ingredients through a fine dining lens. The Swarovski Terrace activation introduces a branded experience without disrupting the core culinary focus of the restaurant.
Reservations can now be made through Cracco Portofino Restaurant, though limited walk-in seating is also available.

Israa Farhan At least two people lost their lives on Saturday following the crash of a small aircraft in western Austria, according to a statement from Austrian police. The incident occurred in the afternoon near the town of Krimml, located to the east of Innsbruck. Authorities have not yet confirmed the type of aircraft involved. The force of the impact ignited a fire at the crash site, with flames reportedly spreading to surrounding forested areas. Fire crews rushed to the scene, facing challenges due to the rugged terrain where the aircraft went down. A police spokesperson confirmed that weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash, ruling out immediate concerns over adverse flying conditions. chatlyn Secures €8M Series A to Build the AI Brain for Global Hotel Operations - Middle East Business News and Information

chatlyn, the AI communication hub transforming how hotels engage with guests across every touchpoint, announced today it has secured €8 million in Series A funding led by Smedvig Ventures. The round included participation from AnyDesk founder Andreas Burike, Austrian transport leader Blaguss, business angel Mathias Hiebeler (former owner of Grob aircraft, acquired by Helsing), and strategic hospitality angels. The company also received an innovation grant from the FFG, Austria's national funding institution for industry-related research and development. With this investment, chatlyn aims to accelerate its mission to become 'the AI brain for hotels'—an intelligent system that supports hotel operations (front desk, reservations, marketing, and guest services) and autonomously optimizes guest communications to maximize revenue and satisfaction. The Problem: Hospitality's €10 Billion Communication Crisis The global hotel industry loses an estimated €10 billion annually due to fragmented guest communication systems, missed booking opportunities, and inefficient staff workflows. Hotels today juggle 8-12 different platforms for guest messaging – from WhatsApp and email to booking channels, like Airbnb and and social media – creating chaos that frustrates both guests expecting instant, personalized service and staff drowning in repetitive tasks. 'Every day, hotels are missing revenue because a guest inquiry comes in at 2 AM and gets lost in the shuffle, or a staff member can't quickly find the right response in the right language. In today's world, you lose potential guests when you don't respond immediately,' said Nicolas Vorsteher, CEO and Co-founder of chatlyn. ' We want to bring back meaningful conversations to the hospitality industry and free up staff's valuable time for in-person guest interactions. We're building the AI brain for hotels – an AI that understands hospitality context, speaks 35+ languages fluently, and learns each property's unique voice to deliver experiences that feel both personal and effortless.' Breakthrough Technology Driving Rapid Adoption Since launching in late 2022, chatlyn has rapidly scaled to serve over 1,000 properties across 30 countries, including luxury brands like St. Regis Mauritius, Singer Palace Rome, and InterContinental properties. The company recently opened its first Middle East office in Dubai, strengthening its presence in the region's rapidly growing luxury hospitality market. The platform's success stems from several industry-first innovations: AI-Powered Visual Webchat: The hospitality industry's first truly intelligent visual assistant that showcases rooms with live pricing and availability while guiding guests through complete conversational booking processes—not just answering questions. 98% Open Rate Communication: chatlyn's WhatsApp guest journey messaging achieves a 98% open rate compared to traditional email's 20%, dramatically outperforming legacy marketing channels. Comprehensive Channel Integration: chatlyn is currently the only solution that integrates with Airbnb and Booking messenger alongside conventional channels like email, WhatsApp, SMS, social media platforms and many others. Comprehensive AI Assistant Suite: From voice calls to review responses, the platform handles every communication touchpoint with context-aware intelligence, featuring real-time translation in 35+ languages, automated email drafting, and intelligent reply suggestions that maintain your property's unique brand voice. With deep integrations into 20+ major hotel management systems including Oracle Opera, Protel by Planet, Mews, and Apaleo, chatlyn acts as the central nervous system for hotel operations. 'chatlyn has fundamentally transformed our guest experience from reactive to proactive,' said Garry Loefgen, Head of Commercial at InterContinental Vienna. 'Our AI assistant handles over 70% of inquiries instantly in perfect German, English, Arabic, and many other languages, while our team focuses on creating magical moments. It's like having a multilingual concierge that never sleeps and gets smarter every day.' Investment Validates Market Leadership Position 'The hospitality sector is experiencing its biggest technological transformation since online booking, and chatlyn has positioned itself at the epicenter of this AI revolution,' said Freddie Kalfayan, Principal at Smedvig Ventures. 'Their rapid adoption by premium hotel brands, industry-first AI capabilities, and exceptional founding team convinced us they're building the platform that will define the future of guest communication. The market opportunity is massive and underserved.' Aggressive Expansion and Product Roadmap The Series A funding will fuel chatlyn's ambitious growth strategy across three key areas: Product Innovation: Accelerate development of agentic AI capabilities for phone support and launch the AI Booking Assistant that seamlessly integrates across any communication channel to capture more direct bookings. Geographic Expansion: Solidify market leadership in German-speaking regions while expanding across wider Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the UAE – markets where demand for multilingual AI communication is exploding. Team Expansion: Scale the existing AI and development team to serve customers not only as a software solution but as AI consultants, positioning chatlyn ahead of the intensifying competition for AI talent in the travel industry. 'This funding represents more than capital – it's validation of our vision to make every hotel conversation intelligent and connected to relevant operational systems,' said Michael Urbanek, CTO and Co-founder. 'Our AI doesn't just automate responses; it understands context, anticipates needs, and creates those delightful moments that turn first-time guests into lifelong advocates.' The company's technological excellence has earned recognition from both industry and government institutions. chatlyn was recently honored as the Best Chatbot Solution Provider in 2024 by the World Travel Awards and received innovation funding from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) for its groundbreaking AI development. Airlines disrupted by Iran-Israel conflict - Region

Global airlines have suspended or reduced flights in the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Iran rages after the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear enrichment sites at the weekend, and Iran retaliated hitting an American airbase in Qatar. The United States carried out strikes against Iranian nuclear sites overnight Saturday to Sunday after over a week of deadly missile exchanges between Israel and Iran. Following that, Iran retaliated, attacking the United States by targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military installation in the Middle East. Here is the latest airline situation: Middle east airlines Bahrain and Kuwait have reopened their airspace following brief precautionary closures earlier Monday, their state news agencies announced, as regional tensions ease slightly after Iranian strikes. In the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Airports resumed operations, according to the Dubai Media Office. However, authorities cautioned that passengers may still experience delays or cancellations due to earlier disruptions. Flightradar24 added that more than 10 flights earlier had to divert from the UAE. Meanwhile, Oman Air has temporarily suspended all flights to and from Manama, Dubai and Kuwait due to escalating regional tensions, the airline announced. In a statement, the airline said it was "monitoring the situation closely" and would resume operations once it was deemed safe. EgyptAir also announced the cancellation of all flights between Cairo and several cities in the Gulf due to ongoing regional tensions and the closure of airspace in multiple countries. The airline said the decision would remain in effect until the situation stabilizes. Before the Iranian retaliation, Qatar temporarily suspended air traffic around the country, its foreign ministry said. "The competent authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country's airspace, as part of a set of precautionary measures taken based on developments in the region," the foreign ministry said. European airlines British Airways cancelled flights between London's Heathrow Airport and Dubai and Doha on Sunday following the US strikes on Iran. The airline said Monday it was scheduled to operate those routes as normal, though there were some cancellations ahead of a clutch of evening flights. Air France halted flights to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates until at least Tuesday inclusive, the airline said. It also extended the suspension of the Paris-Tel Aviv route until July 14. Flights of Air France's low-cost carrier Transavia from Paris to Beirut have been suspended until June 30 while the Tel Aviv route is closed until September 7. Germany's Lufthansa group, whose other airlines include Swiss, Austrian and ITA, has suspended flights to the Middle East until June 30. The Amman and Erbil, Iraq, routes were also suspended until July 11. The group will not fly to Tel Aviv and Tehran will until July 31 and is also avoiding the air space of countries involved in the conflict. Greece's Aegean Airlines has stopped Tel Aviv flights until July 12. Its Amman, Beirut and Erbil routes are closed until June 28. Turkish airline Pegasus has scrapped flights to Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon until June 30, and Iran until July 30. Flag carrier Turkish Airlines on Monday cancelled its remaining flights for the day to Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. No Turkish Airlines flights to Baghdad, Damascus and Tehran are available before July 1. Finnair meanwhile confirmed it was suspending flights to Doha. The carrier is also staying out of the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Israel. US and Canadian airlines United Airlines has warned passengers that flights to and from Dubai scheduled between June 18 and July 3 may be affected and is offering no-fee ticket changes under certain conditions due to Middle East unrest. The US airline has implemented the same flexibility for Tel Aviv flights between June 13 and August 1, allowing customers to rebook for other major European cities. Air Canada has temporarily suspended its daily non-stop service from Toronto to Dubai starting June 18 and warned the suspension could be extended. Travel via a European stopover on a partner airline remains possible, according to its website. American Airlines is allowing customers to change their bookings to Doha without fees for travel originally scheduled between June 19 and July 20. Asian airlines Singapore Airlines has cancelled eight flights to Dubai -- two per day from Sunday through Wednesday. *This story was edited by Ahram Online Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
