Popular Whiskey Brand Hit With Troubling News

Yahoo04-05-2025

Popular whiskey brand Devils River Whiskey has been around since 2017, expanding from its roots in San Antonio, TX to 36 states and five different countries.
Back in 2023, the company announced a new brand deal with Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista to join the growing business.
"We are thrilled to have someone of Dave's caliber as an investor and partner," Co-Founder and CEO of Devils River Whiskey Mike Cameron said in a statement at the time. "Dave's involvement in our brand is a major step toward Devils River Whiskey leading the diversification of bourbon culture and elevating Texas whiskey."
Bautista emerged as a household name thanks to his impressive stint in Marvel, standout performance in Knock at the Cabin and his work on Denis Villeneuve's Dune series. "I'm extremely honored to join the Devils River family. I was blown away by their products and the love and pride that goes into making them. I couldn't be more excited to contribute to the growth of the company," he said about the brand deal in 2023.
Just two years later, the company was hit with some difficult news. According to a report from The Street, Devils River Distillery LLC and an affiliate filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to reorganize their business and continue operating.
From The Street:
The debtor listed $1 million to $10 million in assets and liabilities in its Subchapter V petition filed on May 1 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas. Its largest unsecured creditors include McDermott, Will & Emory, owed over $317,000; Sazerac, owed over $258,000; AREA Real Estate, owed over $132,000 and Romph & Pou Agency, owed over $83,000.
The company touts "more than sixty-three national and international awards" for its products including bourbon whiskey, agave whiskey, coffee whiskey and more.
"Devils River Whiskey is recognized nationally as an award-winning brand, including multiple SIP Awards, The Fifty Best accolades, and International Spirits Competition gold medals," the company said.Sign in to access your portfolio

Amberdata exec says, 'I no longer look at price anymore' — here's what she watches instead

Amberdata exec says, 'I no longer look at price anymore' — here's what she watches instead originally appeared on TheStreet. Amberdata co-founder and chief operating officer Tongtong Gong says, 'I no longer look at price anymore.' Bitcoin's role as digital gold, she contends, is already cemented, and relying on spot prices or futures alone strips away the broader picture that truly guides market direction. Gong argues that investors need to move beyond candlesticks and pull together a web of interconnected metrics. She begins with on-chain activity, where raw transaction volumes and protocol adoption rates reveal whether real demand is growing. Miners' operations follow closely behind, offering a live read on network security and the tempo of new coin issuance. Leverage in DeFi lending and borrowing protocols, Gong says, provides a window into market-wide risk appetite and liquidity demand. Equally important is tracking order-book depth across centralized exchanges to learn how easily large orders might sway prices. Finally, she highlights stablecoin flows against the U.S. dollar: 'When a peg shows stress, it can foreshadow broader volatility.' Taken together, these signals create a round-the-clock, 24/7 snapshot of the crypto economy that price alone can't deliver. Retail-focused analyst Wendy O takes a contrasting tack, zeroing in on the crowd itself. She watches spikes in views and mentions on social platforms beyond X, noting that wider chatter often precedes sharp altcoin moves. 'I read all of my comments to gauge what's going on,' she says, blending that real-time feedback with chart patterns, news trends and seasoned intuition to build her outlook. The duo's perspectives reinforce a simple truth: today's digital-asset markets run on more than price swings. 'Digital assets are created on chain. They have value because of the crypto economy that's behind it,' Gong notes. WendyO adds that retail participants bring both liquidity and user insight for the utilities that crypto builders are rolling out. With on-chain, exchange, and social data streaming nonstop — Gong's institutional lens combined with Wendy O's retail pulse delivers a powerful, complementary toolkit for navigating digital-asset markets. Surprising guidance sends CrowdStrike stock reeling

Surprising guidance sends CrowdStrike stock reeling originally appeared on TheStreet. Nothing in computer-related work is more frustrating than getting hacked or your workflow being wrecked by an update. "My engineers do not have this problem, and now I look like a stupid sales person" was the best nontechnical person's comment I've ever heard while I was working in IT. An update broke her workflow, and she shouldn't need to be an engineer for updates to work. If you are running a company and an update for a software you rely on to keep your data safe ends up making your employee computers unbootable, what are you going to do once the issue is resolved? You might start looking elsewhere. After all, changing the cybersecurity software platform you are using is much easier than switching to a different operating system. In July 2024, CrowdStrike () released an update that caused hundreds of millions of computers running on Microsoft () Windows to be stuck on a recovery page with the so-called Blue Screen of Death. The company implemented a commitment plan to reassure its customers. The plan cost about $60 million. On June 3, CrowdStrike reported its results for Q1 of fiscal 2026. Here are the highlights: Total revenue was $1.1 billion, a 20% increase from $921 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2025. GAAP net loss attributable to CrowdStrike was $110.2 million, compared with GAAP net income of $42.8 million a year earlier. GAAP net loss per share was 44 cents against GAAP net income of 17 cents a year earlier. Net cash generated from operations was a record $384.1 million, compared qith $383.2 million, a year earlier. Free cash flow was $279.4 million, compared with $322.5 million in Q1 of fiscal 2025. Cash and equivalents grew to a record $4.61 billion as of April company ended its customer commitment packages program in the fiscal fourth quarter, but it still reduced revenue-growth opportunities. Frank Grillo Talks About Why His DC Character Has Been So Much More Fulfilling Than His Marvel Role Ever Was — GeekTyrant

Frank Grillo is one of the few in the club of those who have played characters in both the DC and Marvel Universes. He played Brock Rumlow, a.k.a. Crossbones, in the Marvel movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). He returned to voice the character in the series What If…? , and appeared in Avengers: Endgame . Though his appearance was brief, he's kept himself busy in other franchises, namely DC, and he's a lot happier with this arc over there than he ever was at Marvel. During a recent appearance on the Tulsa King panel at Fan Expo Dallas, moderated and hosted by ScreenRant, Grillo looked back on his time with the MCU, while sharing why he is having a better time being part of the DCU franchise. After discussing the MCU's Crossbones, Grillo explained what the upside is to playing a character like Flag Sr. in the DCU while working together with James Gunn: 'Rick Flag Sr... It was unfortunate because Crossbones isn't onscreen that much, and this is years ago. People love that character, and Marvel seems to have reused every other character except Crossbones. 'Now he's popping up in Spider-Man comics and Daredevil comics because he's a great villain, so I was expecting to have a lot of fun with it. But unfortunately, he perished kind of quickly. But I love working with James Gunn. ''I did the voice for Creature Commandos, and then I'm in Peacemaker, which is coming up in August. And before that, it's Superman with Rick Flag. So, it's different; it's more of an adventure than the Marvel stuff was.' Grillo's Flag Sr. makes his live-action debut with Superman in July, before returning in Peacemaker season 2.
