UP's banking boom: State govt's financial inclusion policy fuels deposits and loans
Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, financial inclusion policies and the linking of government schemes with banks have boosted public confidence.
As a result, the banking network has expanded from cities to villages, the CD ratio has improved, and June 2025 data reflects both rising banking activity and the state's growing economic strength.
According to the official data here on Sunday, by June 2025, bank deposits in Uttar Pradesh rose by ₹1.86 lakh crore to ₹19.39 lakh crore, marking a 10.60% annual growth over June 2024. Loan disbursements also increased by ₹0.93 lakh crore (8.79%) to ₹11.45 lakh crore. The figures highlight the steady improvement in the state's investment and credit environment.
Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh's CD ratio stood at 59.04% in March 2025 and inched up to 59.05% by June, reflecting stability and balance in the banking system. District-wise data shows notable improvement, with more districts now recording a CD ratio above 80%, while those below 40% have come down to just six.
Similarly, banking activities have expanded across more districts compared to 2014, with 21 districts now recording a CD ratio between 60% and 80%. This reflects the wider reach of banking services in rural and semi-urban areas and the improved fulfilment of local credit needs.
Experts attribute this progress to government initiatives and strong coordination among banks. Schemes like the Chief Minister Swarojgar Yojana, Startup India support, the ODOP campaign, and digitalisation drives have strengthened the banking system.
As a result, Uttar Pradesh is emerging not only as an agricultural hub but also as an economically and financially strong state.

Torrent Group's green hydrogen plant in UP inaugurated
'The Green Hydrogen produced at the plant will be blended with natural gas in Torrent Gas' City Gas Distribution infrastructure in Gorakhpur, maintaining its concentration up to 2 per cent,' it said. The project, jointly developed by Torrent Group entities Torrent Power and Torrent Gas, will have an annual production capacity of 72,000 tonnes per annum, the group said in a statement. New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group's green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh was on Sunday inaugurated by state chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The green hydrogen blended with natural gas will be further supplied to domestic households, CNG stations and industries in the region through the already laid network of natural gas pipelines. 'Torrent's green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur is the first Green Hydrogen plant in Uttar Pradesh and is also the largest Green Hydrogen and Natural Gas blending project in the City Gas Distribution sector in the country,' the statement said. Torrent Gas has licence to provide Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Gorakhpur, Sant Kabirnagar and Kushinagar districts. Torrent has already set up 32 CNG stations and supplies gas to 12,000+ domestic households and 73 industries and commercial establishments in the region and intends to grow its gas distribution infrastructure in the region significantly. Green hydrogen is hydrogen produced via electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources like solar, wind or hydropower. Unlike hydrogen made from fossil fuels, green hydrogen has no direct carbon emissions, making it a cleaner energy carrier. Blending it with natural gas reduces carbon footprint, utilises the already laid natural gas infrastructure and helps to ramp up early demand for hydrogen. Speaking on the occasion, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh has a target of 1 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production, for which it has set up a specific policy that will support potential investments. With the inauguration of this plant, green hydrogen has become a part of the life of common people as it will directly reach their kitchens and vehicles. the statement quoted him as saying. He also mentioned that availability of PNG has brought great relief to the people of Gorakhpur, especially the housewives due to the convenience, safety and savings it offers. Increasing use of CNG as transportation fuel has helped battle pollution and save costs for the masses. Various industries and commercial establishments in Gorakhpur are also now using piped natural gas and reaping the benefits of cheaper and economical fuel. Jinal Mehta, Director, Torrent Group, said, 'Torrent Group is committed to making a significant contribution in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India's Energy Transition and National Green Hydrogen Mission. The commissioning of Torrent Power's Green Hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur and its integration into Torrent Gas' City Gas Distribution infrastructure in Gorakhpur, is a milestone in this endeavour. It marks the culmination of the first initiative in our long-term vision of setting up large scale green hydrogen plants in the country for various use cases including for blending with natural gas in the CGD network.' Blending Green Hydrogen into Gorakhpur's gas grid is a step in achieving practical, scalable pathway to net-zero target of the country. It lowers emissions, builds demand for green molecules, and creates a platform for deeper de-carbonisation in transport and industry, he said. William and Catherine to establish a new home at Windsor's Forest Lodge
London, Aug 18 (UNI) The Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to relocate to Forest Lodge, an elegant eight-bedroom residence nestled within Windsor Great Park, marking what palace insiders describe as "a fresh start" after an arduous period for the royal family. The royal couple, accompanied by their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louise, will leave behind Adelaide Cottage, their four-bedroom home within Windsor Castle's grounds, where they have resided since August 2022. Following 18 challenging months that saw the Princess endure a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, the couple have resolved to embrace change. "Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times," a royal source told the BBC. "Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter. It's an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind," the source added. The royal couple see this as a move for the long-term and view Forest Lodge as their forever home. It will be where they plan to live as a family when the Prince and Princess of Wales become King and Queen. As with their four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage, it is understood they will not have any live-in staff as they focus on creating as private a family home as is possible. William and Catherine announced they were moving from Kensington Palace in London to Windsor in August 2022, reports BBC. They also have homes at Anmer Hall in Norfolk where they spend much of the school holidays and their offices remain at Kensington Palace. The move to Windsor has been a successful one and afforded them the privacy and freedom that was more difficult to find in London. It is understood the family are settled and the children are happy at Lambrook School where all three currently attend. Any work carried out on Forest Lodge will not come from the Sovereign Grant which provides state funding for the monarchy. The Prince and Princess of Wales are funding the move privately and they will pay market rent on the property. Forest Lodge itself bears architectural charm and historical depth. Extensively restored in 2001 at a reported £1.5 million, it marries architectural charm with historic resonance, its vaulted interiors, decorative plasterwork and stone details evoking a refined past. At the time of its renovation, it was valued at £15,000 per month in rent. Photographs from that time revealed intricate plaster cornices, vaulted hallways and stonework retaining the character of its heritage. Redacted planning applications lodged with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead show permission for minor internal and external alterations was granted earlier this month. The council's decision notice refers to the removal of a window and works to a fireplace. The Royal Family receives funding through a mix of public and private sources. Prince William's private income comes from a variety of sources, including the Duchy of Cornwall, the estate which mainly covers land in south-west England and is worth £1bn. A financial report for the duchy this year showed a profit of £22.9m, slightly down on the previous year when it generated a net surplus of £24m. Forest Lodge is nestled in the heart of the 4,800-acre Windsor Great Park. Kate has spoken of her belief in the healing power of the natural world and described nature as her "sanctuary", while opening up about her "life-changing" cancer treatment. She further showed her love for nature in the Mother Nature video series, which she launched in May. The family hopes to move into the new property by Christmas and are said to be looking forward to creating many happy memories in their new home. UNI NST PRS
