
Glomac profit before tax rises to RM33.4m in FY25
For the full financial year ended April 30, 2025 (FY25), Glomac recorded revenue of RM238.3 million, supported by steady construction progress at its ongoing developments, including Saujana Perdana, Lakeside Residences and contributions from two high-rise residential projects, namely 121 Residences and Plaza@Kelana Jaya.
PBT was higher at RM33.4 million from RM32.9 million in FY24, driven by stronger margins from higher-value developments, gains from disposal of investment properties, and lower finance cost.
During the year, Glomac successfully completed and handed over several projects, including 121 Residences, with an estimated GDV of RM334 million.
Glomac kept a healthy financial position, with near zero net gearing and shareholders' equity of RM1,200.9 million. As of end-April 2025, group held cash and deposits totalling RM235.7 million, providing ample liquidity to fund ongoing development and landbanking activities.
Glomac's net asset value per share stood at RM1.56, translating to a price-to-book ratio of approximately 0.20 times.
During the fourth quarter, Glomac rolled out new residential phases across its thriving township developments. Key launches included semi-detached houses at KEYS, Lakeside Residences, double-storey terrace houses at Allamanda, Saujana KLIA as well as Alamanda, Saujana Jaya, Kulai Johor.
Notably, all 112 units of double-storey terrace houses at Serai@SBCR, Bandar Saujana Utama, launched in Q1'5, were fully sold in Q4'25. Glomac achieved new sales of RM332 million for the full year.
Looking ahead to FY26, Glomac is planning new launches with a total estimated GDV of RM324 million, comprising entirely of landed residential properties. Key upcoming launches include two new phases of double-storey terrace houses at Serai@SBCR and a new phase of semi-detached homes at KEYS, Lakeside Residences.
Glomac has also strengthened its capital structure via its Sukuk Wakalah Programme, providing a funding capacity of up to RM3 billion.

Local giants step up as foreign funds retreat
KUALA LUMPUR: As foreign investors retreat, the spotlight is now on domestic institutional heavyweights to steady the ship, fuelling a cautiously optimistic outlook for the local equity market. Although foreign shareholding fell to its lowest level in over a decade in June, analysts believe renewed domestic support could help stabilise the market in the near term. SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes believes local institutional investors could step up to support the market in July. He cited the likes of the Employees Provident Fund and Permodalan Nasional Bhd which may accumulate shares, particularly in large banks, utilities and high-dividend stocks. "If volatility settles and earnings hold up, that interest may extend into mid-cap stocks and real estate investment trusts," he told Business Times. "There is definitely value in Malaysian equities, especially those with attractive dividends. Local funds may view this as a window to increase exposure." Still, when it comes to the prospect of foreign investors returning to Malaysian equities in the near term, most analysts remain cautious. Foreign shareholding in Malaysian equities fell to its lowest level since 2010, declining to 19 per cent in June, according to data compiled by CIMB Securities. The drop followed a net sell-off of RM1.3 billion by foreign investors during the month, reversing their net buying position in May. This brought cumulative net foreign outflows for the first half of 2025 to RM12.1 billion. Since 2010, total net foreign outflows from Malaysian equities have reached RM50.6 billion. Bank Muamalat chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the sharp decline in foreign shareholding signals waning investor appetite and the need for stronger domestic catalysts to reignite interest. He said the drop could reflect several factors, including rising risk aversion amid the uncertain global economic outlook, tariff shocks and escalating geopolitical tensions. Another issue, he added, is the lacklustre appetite for Malaysian equities, despite their attractive valuations based on price-to-earnings (PE) multiples. "The prevailing PE ratio is hovering around 14 times, which is well below the historical average of 17 times. On that note, weaker earnings prospects may have hindered interest among foreign investors. "So yes, I think the government needs to take heed from such statistics. They point to a lack of confidence," he said. Afzanizam said that for foreign funds to return, key economic reforms, particularly fiscal consolidation, must be part of the equation. He noted that fiscal discipline would create more room for targeted cash transfer programmes, boosting consumer spending and, ultimately, gross domestic product growth. "Fiscal consolidation could also translate into higher development spending that can propel important sectors in Malaysia. "This ultimately could result in multiplier effects across other industries such as construction, manufacturing and services," he said. However, Innes warned that Malaysia's close trade ties with China now pose a structural risk. As Western economies move to de-risk their supply chains, especially in electric vehicles, solar panels and semiconductors, Malaysia may face secondary pressure on its exports and corporate earnings. "If Chinese demand weakens further, Malaysia could see secondary pressure on both exports and earnings visibility. Until there's greater clarity on global trade flows and a reason to re-risk emerging markets, foreign funds are likely to stay cautious. "The setup is not broken, but it's not compelling enough yet for a decisive re-entry," he added. Meanwhile, CIMB Securities noted in its monthly wrap note that local retail participation in the equity market weakened sharply in June. The average daily trading value by retail investors fell 17.3 per cent month-on-month, the steepest drop among all investor categories, bringing their market participation share down to 16 per cent, from 17 per cent in May. "Local retail investors remained net sellers for the third straight month in June, with their net sell value rising 2.7 times month-on-month to RM393 million," it said. The largest net outflow came from the utilities sector, where retail investors sold RM313.8 million worth of shares, marking their fifth consecutive month of exits from the segment. In contrast, institutional and foreign investors were net buyers in utilities and other selected sectors, reflecting a divergence in investment strategies amid heightened policy and earnings uncertainty. Overall, CIMB Securities said retail investors' net position for the first half of 2025 remained in positive territory at RM1.65 billion.

Foreign shareholding in Malaysian equities plunges to 15-year low
KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign shareholding in Malaysian equities fell to its lowest level since 2010, declining to 19 per cent in June, according to data compiled by CIMB Securities. The drop followed a net sell-off of RM1.3 billion by foreign investors during the month, reversing their net buying position in May. This brought cumulative net foreign outflows for the first half of 2025 to RM12.1 billion. Since 2010, total net foreign outflows from Malaysian equities have reached RM50.6 billion. CIMB Securities attributed the decline in foreign shareholding to the weaker performance of stocks with higher foreign ownership, compounded by sustained net foreign selling. The top three stocks that saw significant foreign selling in June were Public Bank Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd and KPJ Healthcare Bhd. Sector-wise, foreign investors concentrated their selling in the financial services and healthcare sectors. Despite accounting for 44 per cent of total trade value in June, which was the highest among all investor groups, CIMB Securities noted that foreign investor sentiment remains fragile. The average share of trading value for foreign investors rose to 42 per cent in the first half of 2025, surpassing the 2024 average of 36 per cent.

Sapura Energy jumps as Bursa clears exit plan
KUALA LUMPUR: Sapura Energy Bhd soared as the most actively traded stock after Bursa Malaysia approved its long-awaited plan to exit financially distressed Practice Note 17 (PN17) status. The counter surged 14.29 per cent to four sen in early trade, with 88.72 million shares changing hands by 10.58am, a sharp revival in interest after nearly no trades were recorded since May 28. The stock earlier touched a morning high of 4.5 sen. At four sen, it commands a market capitalisation of RM643.2 million. The oil and gas contractor started the year at three sen and reached a high of five sen in February, when it secured creditors' approval for a massive debt restructuring plan. The news sparked heavy interest, pushing trading volume to a near two-year high of more than 258 million shares on Feb 27. The latest rally comes as Bursa gave the green light to Sapura's regularisation plan, which includes a capital reduction, major debt workout, fresh fundraising and an exemption from a mandatory general offer. Advised by MIDF Amanah Investment Bank, the plan aims to cut Sapura's borrowings and trade liabilities from RM12.1 billion to RM5.23 billion. It also includes a RM1.1 billion capital injection from the Finance Ministry via Malaysia Development Holding Sdn Bhd (MDH). Once fully converted, the loan stocks will make MDH Sapura's largest shareholder with a stake of over 33 per cent, overtaking Permodalan Nasional Bhd. Bursa's approval, issued on Monday, is subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, as well as quarterly updates on share issuances linked to the debt instruments. The clearance paves the way for a long-awaited turnaround at Sapura, which has been under PN17 since 2022.
