Pakistan seal T20 series against Bangladesh with 57-run win
Opener Sahibzada Farhan was named Player of the Match after he top scored with 74 for the hosts, who won the toss at Gaddafi Stadium before posting 201-6.
It was a fair fight back from Bangladesh to restrict the hosts after Hasan Nawaz recorded the best strike rate of the innings with an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls.
Tanzim Hasan gave some respectability to the chase, which was reduced to 77-7, when, coming in at nine, the Bangladesh bowling allrounder added 50 off 31 balls.
Abrar Ahmed's off-break spin was key to restricting the tourists as he claimed 3-19 off his four overs to help Pakistan to their first T20 home series win since December 2021.
'It feels very good … I didn't know it was three and a half years,' the Pakistan captain Salman Agha said afterwards of the end of the barren run.
'It was a complete performance, and that is way better than anything else.
'Everyone is loving the team environment where everyone can come and enjoy playing for Pakistan.'
Pakistan, who won the first match by 37 runs at the same venue, brought in opener Sahibzada in place of Fakhar Zaman.
The decision was fully repaid with six sixes and four fours recorded by the right-hander in his 41-ball innings.
The match could not have got off to a worse start for Bangladesh with Shoriful Islam limping out of his first bowl. The left-arm seamer appeared to tweak a groin while fielding the ball in his follow-through and adds to a long list of absent pacers for the tourists.
'When Shoriful was injured, the momentum shifted,' the Bangladesh skipper Litton Das said.
'We have a lack of bowling, but we came back well because I would back our batters any day to chase 200 on this track.
'Whoever is batting well has to keep going, for 13 or 14 overs, but after four overs we didn't bat well and there were back-to-back wickets.
'In cricket, you have to do the basics, we don't do it at the moment.'
Bangladesh had reached 44-0 in the fourth over of the chase before the collapse that ended their hopes of bouncing back from the opening defeat.
Opener Tanzid Hasan struck 33 from 19 balls in the stand, but once he fell to the seam of Faheem Ashraf an inevitable end quickly formed.
The last match is on Sunday, also in Lahore.

Pakistan and Afghanistan pen UAE T20 tri-series before Asia Cup
The United Arab Emirates will host a Twenty20 tri-series including Afghanistan and Pakistan later this month, as part of the teams' buildup for next year's T20 World Cup. Sharjah will host all seven games of the tri-series, starting August 29. Teams play against each other twice before the top two qualify for the final. Pakistan and Afghanistan have already secured direct qualification for the T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. UAE could also qualify, but it has to play ICC's Asia-East Asia and Pacific qualifiers in Oman in October. Afghanistan, which finished seventh in the last T20 World Cup, hasn't played a T20 since a bilateral series against Zimbabwe late last year. Pakistan is currently playing a T20 series against the West Indies in the United States. The tri-series will be followed by the Asia Cup, also scheduled to be held in the UAE, from September 9, when Afghanistan takes on Hong Kong in the opening game.

Pakistan's Nawaz takes three West Indies wickets in 14-run T20 win
Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets in an over to propel Pakistan to a 14-run win over the West Indies in the series-opening Twenty20 cricket international in Florida. Pakistan was sent in to bat and posted 178 for six, led by Saim Ayub's 57 from 38 deliveries. Debate about that being above or below a par target at this venue was partially answered when West Indies openers Johnson Charles and 18-year-old Jewel Andrew, making his T20 international debut, scored at just over six an over to the halfway point in reply. After conceding 20 runs in his first three overs, left-arm spinner Nawaz dramatically shifted the contest. He started the 12th over with a breakthrough to dismiss Andrew for 35 and end a 72-run opening stand, and he added the wickets of Charles (35) and Gudakesh Motie (0) on the fourth and fifth balls as the West Indies slumped to 75-3. Skipper Shai Hope (2) scooped a full delivery from Ayub into the deep in the next over as West Indies lost four wickets for five runs. Ayub, who was voted player of the match for his half-century and bowling return of 2-20, said the pitch was challenging to play on, so it was important to building partnerships and not panic. Some lofty tail-end hitting from Jason Holder, who struck four sixes in his unbeaten, 12-ball 30, and Shamar Joseph, who hit 21 from 12, helped West Indies to 164-7 and made the final margin more respectable. That lopsided contest ended any chance of the West Indies starting the series against Pakistan on a better footing after comprehensive Test and T20 series losses to Australia. The Australians wrapped up a historic 8-0 sweep in the Caribbean earlier in the week. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha said his team 'started strong and finished even better'. A total of closer than 200 was in range for Pakistan early when Ayub and Fakhar Zaman (28) shared an 81-run second-wicket stand to get the score up to 107 in the 12th over. But Holder trapped Ayub lbw for 57, ending a 38-ball innings that contained five boundaries and two sixes to get the vital breakthrough. Recalled fast bowler Shamar Joseph kept the pressure on Pakistan's batting lineup and returned 3-30 from his four overs. The second and third T20s will be held in Lauderhill on Saturday and Sunday before an ODI series in the Caribbean.

England's Woakes ruled out of remainder of India Test
England paceman Chris Woakes is set to miss the remainder of the fifth and deciding Test against India at the Oval after suffering a shoulder injury, team management have announced. Woakes injured himself late on Thursday's opening day in south London in a desperate bid to prevent a boundary, landing awkwardly and then leaving the field with his left arm in a makeshift sling while in evident pain. He was then assessed by team medical staff, and while Woakes could yet feature again in a dire emergency, an England spokesman speaking before the start of Friday's second day ruled him out. 'England seamer Chris Woakes will continue to be monitored throughout the remainder of the Rothesay Fifth Test at The Kia Oval, following a left shoulder injury sustained on day one of the match against India,' the spokesman said. 'At this stage, the injury has ruled him out of any further participation in the Test. 'A further assessment will be conducted at the conclusion of the series.' India, who must win the match to end a five-Test series level at 2-2, were 204-6 at Thursday's close after being sent into bat. Woakes is the only England pace bowler to have featured in every match of a gruelling series where five Tests have been squeezed into a schedule of seven weeks. On generally flat pitches in the preceding four Tests, Woakes struggled to make an impact, taking 10 wickets. And on Thursday he had India opener KL Rahul chop the ball onto his stumps before suffering the injury.
