In a significant step towards improving Bengaluru's urban hygiene and infrastructure, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday launched a new, state-of-the-art 'CityCat' cleaning vehicle, designed to enhance street cleaning efficiency in the city. The CityCat cleaning vehicle was launched in Bengaluru.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, Shivakumar described the rollout of the new vehicle as part of a broader mission to transform Bengaluru into a cleaner and smarter city.
'Cleaner Bengaluru, Smarter Bengaluru. The all-new, state-of-the-art #CityCat vehicle is ready to roll out on Bengaluru's streets,' Shivakumar posted.
'This is more than a machine, it's a symbol of our commitment to a cleaner, greener future. We're transforming our city, one bold step at a time, and we won't stop until Bengaluru shines,' he added.
The new CityCat machine is part of an upgraded fleet of cleaning vehicles aimed at supporting BBMP's solid waste management and street sanitation efforts. It features advanced vacuuming, sweeping, and dust suppression systems, offering more efficient and faster cleaning of major roads and public spaces. Officials believe this will significantly reduce dust and litter, particularly in high-traffic areas.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Shivakumar also gave an update on the state's flagship Yettinahole project, reiterating the government's target of bringing drinking water to Kolar by 2027.
Speaking to reporters after a review, he said the state government has taken key steps to address hurdles, including land acquisition and forest clearance for construction works at Bairagonda and Lakkenahalli, where a balanced reservoir is being planned.
'We have already discussed the project issues with the Forest Department. Land acquisition and financial aspects for reservoir works have been reviewed. Based on suggestions from ministers, we are incorporating necessary changes,' Shivakumar said.
He also inspected the project sites personally and said the concerns raised by the departments would be studied in detail and taken up in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
'Even if other projects are delayed, I am determined to complete the Yettinahole project. The Chief Minister has given clear directions to treat it as a priority,' Shivakumar added.
The project, seen as vital for water-scarce regions like Kolar and Chikkaballapur, has been a long-pending demand from local communities.

BBMP marshals without salary for last three months
BENGALURU: BBMP marshals deployed at lake security and supervision wing, ward monitoring and Indira Canteens are working without salaries since March. The situation has arisen after Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited was carved out of BBMP for garbage management. Their salaries are usually given through the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Society and each marshal is paid Rs 17,500 monthly. 'Supervisors say the delay is due to a set of procedures. Earlier, the amount was given to the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Society towards payments from BBMP. Now the files have to be cleared from BWSML to ward marshals. Similarly around 250 marshals will have to be paid after file clearance from Forest Wing and lastly, the Health Department of BBMP has to clear files related to marshals deployed at Indira Canteens. All these procedures take time and hence delay, as per the supervisors,' a marshal said. The municipality has cleared the payment of March related to ward marshals, however, their salaries are due since April. Similarly, the salaries of marshals under the jurisdiction of the lake and health departments are yet to be cleared since March, clarified a senior official. 'We have around 200 marshals in BBMP health department looking after the Indira Canteen security. The Medical Health Officer (MHO), who is authorised to clear the payment related file, has been transferred to another place in BBMP and a note has been sent to the Special Commissioner for Health in BBMP seeking the approval to allow the official to clear the payments. Once it is done, the salaries will be released,' said a senior official. The BBMP marshals said they had to borrow money from relatives and friends to fill petrol in bikes and come to work and running a home without a regular salary would push them to the brink.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Kempe Gowda Bhavan and during the Kempe Gowda International Awards presentation held to mark the 516th birth anniversary of the city's founder, Mr. Shivakumar said that Kempe Gowda's accomplishments are eternal. Mr. Shivakumar said, 'None of us are born into a caste by choice. Kempegowda belongs to every community. He is the pride of this land and all its people.' Highlighting infrastructure initiatives for the State's capital, the Deputy CM said tenders worth ₹17,000 crore are being prepared for 40 km of tunnel roads, in addition to 118 km of elevated corridors. 'Projects worth ₹1 lakh crore are being planned for the comprehensive development of Bengaluru,' he said. The goal of this initiative is not only to boost green cover but also to improve crop quality and increase farmers' income. Various types of plants are available at nearby forest department nurseries. These include Sheesham, Guava, Amla, Lemon, Mahogany, Teak, Jamun, Kachnar, Mango, Eucalyptus (Nilgiri), Neem, Kadamba, Peepal, Banyan, Baheda, and Palash. A minimum of 100 plants must be purchased to benefit from the scheme. Speaking about the scheme, Forest Guard of Jehanabad Sadar, Nand Ji, said, 'This is an ambitious scheme of the Bihar government that any farmer can take advantage of. If you buy a plant for Rs 10, the government will pay you Rs 70 after three years, provided the plant survives." The Rs 10 taken for each plant is considered a security deposit. To receive the benefit, more than 50 percent of the plants must be alive after three years. To apply, farmers need a land ownership receipt, a photocopy of their bank passbook, an Aadhaar card, and a form available from the Agriculture Department. Where To Buy Saplings? This year, the district's target is to distribute 40,000 saplings. Currently, 52,000 plants are available at the Kako nursery alone.
