To promote farming and support farmers, the Bihar government is running several schemes, one of which is the Krishi Vaniki Yojana. Under this initiative, farmers can buy saplings for just Rs 10 each and receive a benefit of Rs 70 per plant after three years, provided certain conditions are met.
Under the scheme, the state government provides saplings at a subsidised rate of Rs 10. However, farmers must ensure the plants are cared for and survive for at least three years. The goal of this initiative is not only to boost green cover but also to improve crop quality and increase farmers' income.
Various types of plants are available at nearby forest department nurseries. These include Sheesham, Guava, Amla, Lemon, Mahogany, Teak, Jamun, Kachnar, Mango, Eucalyptus (Nilgiri), Neem, Kadamba, Peepal, Banyan, Baheda, and Palash. A minimum of 100 plants must be purchased to benefit from the scheme.
Speaking about the scheme, Forest Guard of Jehanabad Sadar, Nand Ji, said, 'This is an ambitious scheme of the Bihar government that any farmer can take advantage of. If you buy a plant for Rs 10, the government will pay you Rs 70 after three years, provided the plant survives."
The Rs 10 taken for each plant is considered a security deposit. To receive the benefit, more than 50 percent of the plants must be alive after three years.
To apply, farmers need a land ownership receipt, a photocopy of their bank passbook, an Aadhaar card, and a form available from the Agriculture Department.
Where To Buy Saplings?
This year, the district's target is to distribute 40,000 saplings. Currently, 52,000 plants are available at the Kako nursery alone. If any farmer faces difficulty in understanding the process, they can directly contact the Forest Department office for help.

He said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving the city's cleanliness and infrastructure. In a post on X, DK Shivakumar wrote, 'Cleaner Bengaluru, Smarter Bengaluru. The all-new, state-of-the-art #CityCat vehicle is ready to roll out on Bengaluru's streets.' 'This is more than a machine - it's a symbol of our commitment to a cleaner, greener future. We're transforming our city, one bold step at a time, and we won't stop until #Bengaluru shines,' the post added. Earlier on Saturday, explaining the Karnataka government's Yettinahole project, state Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the government has decided to deliver the Yettinahole water to Kolar by 2027. He mentioned that the forest department has discussed the project's issues. Land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli, were also discussed in the meeting with the forest department. DK Shivakumar informed that the changes in the project will take place based on the suggestions of the ministers and asserted that he would study everything and raise the issue in the upcoming cabinet meeting. 'Our government's resolve is to deliver Yettinahole water to Kolar by 2027. We have already discussed the issues related to this project with the Forest Department, the land acquisition process, land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli. Therefore, we visited the site of these works and inspected them. The changes in this project have been made based on the suggestions of the ministers. There are also some technical aspects here. I will study everything and raise this issue in the next cabinet meeting. 'We have already discussed the project issues with the Forest Department. Land acquisition and financial aspects for reservoir works have been reviewed. Based on suggestions from ministers, we are incorporating necessary changes,' Shivakumar said. He also inspected the project sites personally and said the concerns raised by the departments would be studied in detail and taken up in the upcoming cabinet meeting. 'Even if other projects are delayed, I am determined to complete the Yettinahole project. The Chief Minister has given clear directions to treat it as a priority,' Shivakumar added. The project, seen as vital for water-scarce regions like Kolar and Chikkaballapur, has been a long-pending demand from local communities.
