Malaysia has yet to receive info on Jho Low's whereabouts, says Anwar
Anwar said he would look into the matter regarding the central figure in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal, who is alleged to be using a fake Australian passport, with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
"I have no information; we have yet to receive anything. Let me check. I've read (the media reports). I need to verify with the Home Minister," he told reporters briefly after attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the Madani Complex in Teluk Kumbar here Saturday (July 19).
Anwar was commenting on several media reports claiming that Jho Low, who was being hunted by international authorities, was believed to be living in an upscale area of Shanghai using a forged Australian passport.
The revelation was made by investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright, renowned for exposing the global 1MDB financial scandal, in a special episode of Finding Jho Low: Live with Bradley Hope & Tom Wright, on Friday (July 18).
The 1MDB scandal, one of the world's largest financial scandals, saw Jho Low identified as the mastermind, accused of embezzling US$7.65bil (RM35bil). – Bernama

MADANI Communities To Receive Further Details Within 24 Hours After Announcements
MELAKA, July 26 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Community nationwide will receive further details related to any announcement within 24 hours after it is made, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the measure was to deliver accurate information directly to the grassroots in each locality. 'For technical matters, it may be difficult, but we want the MADANI Community to get the simplest explanation,' he said at the 2025 Peninsular Malaysia MADANI Community Retreat held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 at Mini Stadium Bistari, Ayer Keroh here tonight. The retreat, attended by around 2,300 participants from 1,406 MADANI Communities, was also joined by Melaka Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. Also present were Senior Division Secretary (Management) of the Ministry of Communications, Mazlan Abd Mutalib, and Information Department director-general Julina Johan. Meanwhile, Fahmi said among the major announcements to be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) on July 31. He said the tabling of a Malaysia Plan usually involved highly technical details related to the country's physical development, such as the construction of hospitals and schools. 'But within 24 hours, the MADANI Community will receive simplified explanations and breakdowns so that they can communicate the information in an easy-to-understand way to their respective communities. 'So this will be a new thing, because I want the MADANI Community to grasp and absorb any government announcement quickly,' he said.

Misuse of tourism licences will lead to firm consequences, warns Tiong
KUALA LUMPUR: Firm action will be taken against the misuse of licences, including dive permits, tour guide credentials, and travel agency approvals if found guilty, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. In a Facebook post Saturday (July 26), the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister responded to a viral video showing a clash between a diving instructor and a foreign tourist in Semporna, Sabah, which has sparked public concern. Initial findings suggest that the incident began during a dive trip when an air tank was improperly placed on the boat deck and accidentally dropped, injuring the instructor's foot. A dispute ensued, which later escalated into a physical confrontation. "The case is now under formal investigation and the instructor has been arrested. Relevant enforcement agencies will work closely to uncover the full story and ensure the process is legal, fair, and transparent," he said. "While investigations continue, the ministry will monitor the case and address any non-compliance in tourism activities." Tiong urged tourism operators to strictly adhere to safety and operational guidelines to prevent similar incidents, while also stressing the importance of tourists cooperating with guides and instructors to ensure their safety and that of others. He also reminded operators to uphold professionalism and treat guests with respect, ensuring that there is no violence, insults, or intimidation involved, except in clear cases of self-defence, and to respond calmly and strive to resolve issues peacefully when faced with rude behaviour. "As Malaysia is known globally as a friendly and welcoming destination, we take pride in our natural beauty and cultural diversity, and we welcome travellers from around the world," he said. He added that with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 approaching, all parties must play their part in protecting the country's image, ensuring that every visitor better understands and respects Malaysia's laws, culture, and norms. "I call on all tourism players to work together to create a safe, respectful, and professional environment, so that both visitors and hosts can fully enjoy the best of Malaysia," he said. – Bernama
