Aldi confirms return date of sell-out Olaplex alternative for less than £4 a bottle

The viral haircare line is officially set for a comeback - but shoppers will need to act fast.
Hair bonding has become one of the most popular beauty trends in recent years. Of course, the one brand that comes to mind is Olaplex.

While the professional brand has earned a cult reputation over the years, it does come with a steep price-tag of £28 per bottle, which has led to many retailers offering their own versions for cheaper.

One of them is Aldi, with the supermarket introducing its Lacura Bonded Haircare into its Specialbuys range back in 2022. At under £4 a bottle, it's no surprise it was quickly snapped up and sold out almost as soon as it went available.

However, there's good news, as the budget chain has officially confirmed that its viral haircare line will once again be available to buy next week, as it will drop back in the 'middle aisle' from Thursday, July 31.
Crowned 'Best Budget and Bond-Building' by Good House keeping, the line-up features three hair products that offer luxury results on a budget, working out at just £3.99 a bottle - making them 86 percent cheaper than Olaplex.
Included is the Pre-Wash Treatment (100ml) that has been packed with extracts of Jojoba Seed Oil and Panthenol to promote "shinier" locks, while working to strengthen and reduce heat damage.

There's also the Bonded Shampoo (250ml) that uses Glycerin, Castor, Banana, and Pomegranate Extract to repair and strengthen, while the Bonded Conditioner (250ml) uses avocado and argan oil to reduce frizz.
When the trio first landed in stores, they quickly went viral among multiple loyal customers who said it left their locks "stronger", with some urging others to "stock up" before it inevitably sold.

In fact, before it was gone, and subsequently showed up on eBay for up to £35, the Daily Record's Beauty Writer Rachel Williams managed to try the Bonded line out on her then bleached blonde tresses, saying it left them "extremely soft, silky and a lot more hydrated than it usually does."
Sharing her review, she said: "Generally the whole range gave my hair the same luxurious feel as the Olaplex products, but at £70 cheaper - which, I consider a win in my book."
She then further added: "Honestly, as a fan of Olaplex, I can safely say that Aldi's bonded products are just as good and are another worthy entry into the supermarket's legendary line up of affordable 'dupes'. And, if the products come back into stock, then I will certainly be purchasing more."

However, it's not just our beauty-writer approved trio that will be returning to stores, as the Lacura Bonded Purple Shampoo (250ml) will also be back for blondes looking to banish brassiness.
Formulated with violet pigments to counteract yellow and orange hues, it leaves the hair looking brighter and bolder, while also using collagen, argan oil and hemp seed to provide "deep moisturization."

Lastly, the line-up will also feature the Lacura Bonded Moisture Mask, that retails at £1 dearer, coming in at £4.99 for a 100ml bottle, which is still much cheaper than Olaplex's No.8 Intense Bond Moisture Mask (£28, 100ml.)
This "intense" treatment uses conditioning agents such as Panthenol to increase shine and help keep frizz at bay, while also working to strengthen and smooth damaged hair.
Aldi's Lacura Bonded Collection will return to stores from Thursday, July 31. Remember, Specialbuys can sell out fast, so act fast to avoid disappointment.

Glasgow Aldi to receive new solar panels in UK rollout

The new installations are part of a £7.7 million investment in on-site renewable energy, with 90 existing stores set to benefit—including the Shettleston Aldi in Glasgow. The supermarket chain, now the fourth largest in the UK, will install advanced 144 kWp solar systems at 41 stores by the end of this year, with an additional 49 stores to follow in 2026. (Image: Supplied) Read more: Tesco brings back free fruit for kids and makes big Clubcard changes Each site is expected to generate around 100,000 kWh of electricity per year—enough to power an average home for 37 years, according to Ofgem data. All future new store developments will also include solar technology as standard. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "By expanding the use of solar panels across our UK stores, we're making practical, long-term changes to how we power our operations, which will help us generate more of our energy on site from renewable sources. "By investing in our estate now, we're strengthening the resilience of our operations and helping ensure we can keep delivering great value for customers across Britain in a more sustainable way." In addition to these installations, Aldi has also converted more than 30% of its owned HGV fleet to run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a more sustainable fuel. The retailer has also introduced chiller doors at its stores to cut energy consumption by around 20% per site.

Popular grocery chain continues USA takeover with 30 new stores as major competitor shuts locations... full list

Trader Joe's is continuing its aggressive expansion. It is adding another 30 stores — including two that just opened in Westminster, Colorado, and Northridge, California. New locations are also on the way in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. These are on top other planned openings, including at least a dozen new stores across 10 states this year. One recent opening puzzled locals because it was less than 100 yards from an existing Trader Joe's. The grocer, founded in 1967 and famous for its cult‑favorite snacks and quirky atmosphere, already has more than 600 stores across 43 states. It is in an expansion battle with rival Aldi, America's fastest-growing grocery chain. German‑owned Aldi — founded in 1946 — operates more than 2,500 locations across 40 US states and plans to open 225 new stores this year alone, on top of the 105 it opened last year. Growth for Trader Joe's and Aldi comes as rival Kroger shutters 60 locations nationwide. It still dwarfs Trader Joe's, and has 3,000 stores and is pouring $45 million into opening 30 new stores and upgrading others in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Trader Joe's new Northridge store kicked off its grand opening with a July 21 ribbon‑cutting ceremony, fan‑favorite snack samples, and free reusable tote bags. The location features murals by California State University, Northridge students, part of the chain's effort to make each store a true neighborhood fixture. In Westminster, Mayor Nancy McNally hailed the city's first Trader Joe's, which opens today. 'People are just very excited about being able to go to Trader Joe's,' she said. Kroger is planning to open 30 new stores in the next 18 months, and upgrade 16 stores in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The $45 million investment in this plan will also include a new fuel center at a store in Springfield. Besides openings, Kroger has opted to compete with Trader Joe's by giving its customers access to its Weekly Digital Deals through in-store flyers. In the meantime, Trader Joe's will continue to lure in customers by continuing to surprise customers with viral bags, and introduce desserts like the Dubai-style pistachio dark chocolate bar. I tried salad cream from Aldi, Asda, M&S and more - the best was cheaper than Heinz

Salad cream is a British favourite, with many supermarkets offering their own take on the classic condiment. But which supermarket salad cream is the best? Salad cream, a beloved British condiment known for its tangy kick and creamy texture, is a staple in many UK homes. ‌ It's often slathered on sandwiches, drizzled over salads or used as a dip, with its unique flavour coming from vinegar. ‌ Heinz was the first to commercially produce salad cream back in 1914, after eight years of perfecting the recipe. Since then, numerous supermarkets have launched their own versions of this iconic sauce. ‌ 1. Asda ‌ This one was a hit, pairing well with both bread and salad items like cucumber. Score: 7/10 2. Aldi ‌ While it didn't quite measure up to the competition, it wasn't unpleasant. Score: 5/10 3. Lidl ‌ This version was deemed too tangy compared to others and didn't make for an enjoyable eating experience. Score: 3/10 4. M&S ‌ This condiment shone when used in a sandwich, especially when other ingredients were present to balance out the cream. Score: 6/10 5. Waitrose ‌ With a noticeable mustard flavour, it didn't fare well as a dip or on bread, which was a letdown. Score: 2/10 ‌ 6. Morrisons This one leaned more towards mayonnaise than any other salad cream we sampled. Score: 5/10 ‌ 7. Tesco The product was a bit lacklustre in the taste stakes, which was a letdown, but it did complement cheese and crusty bread nicely. Rating: 5/10 ‌ 8. Heinz This one offered a satisfying texture, albeit a touch too liquid, causing it to flow out of the bottle without any pressure. Rating: 7/10 ‌ 9. Sainsbury's This salad cream packed a flavourful punch without being excessively sharp and had a superb consistency. It came out on top in our taste test, and given its price point, it definitely outperformed Heinz. Rating: 9/10
