The 2026 Dodge Charger Sixpack Sounds Nasty

The 2026 Dodge Charger Sixpack Sounds Nasty

Yahoo4 days ago
Dodge must be coming awfully, awfully close to revealing the gasoline-powered version of its brand-new Charger. So close, in fact, that its marketing team was willing to risk a little public display of acceleration in downtown Detroit this week while filming what sounds a lot like an I6-powered Charger coupe. And thanks to a passing Detroiter who shared it on Reddit, you can hear it too:
Filming w/drone on Bagley/Cass byu/carrotnose258 inDetroit
The brief, unedited clip focuses on a red Charger being drifted around a corner just a few blocks from Detroit's iconic Woodward Avenue. Pay no mind to the Ford Explorer squad car in the foreground; the cops were just there to keep the area closed to traffic while Dodge shot its drone footage; this isn't that kind of Dodge Charger video.
I'll admit, a big part of me was hoping this would be our first hint at a revived Hemi-powered Charger, but the exhaust tone here suggests otherwise. It sounds smooth and beefy, but carries the characteristically raspy zing of a six-cylinder, rather than the deeper thrum of a Hemi V8. In the words of our own Joel Feder, it sounds like a 'nasty' inline-six. Good nasty or bad nasty? We'll let you be the judge.
As for what comes next? Well, Dodge originally had no plans to put the Hemi into the new Charger, but it's becoming abundantly clear that the recent leadership changes at Stellantis brought with them a new set of rules. 2026 could be a very interesting year for Mopar fans.

Lucid Sets Sights On Collectors And Connoisseurs At Monterey Car Week

Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) shares rose Tuesday as the luxury EV maker revved up anticipation for Monterey Car Week 2025, unveiling plans for a new Gravity SUV–linked concept debut at Pebble Beach alongside public test drives of both its Air sedan and upcoming Gravity model. The concept is slated for the Concept Lawn during the 74th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, August 17, marking a showcase for the luxury EV maker. Lucid's Concours Village booth runs August 14 through August to Benzinga Pro, LCID stock has lost over 23% in the past year. Investors can gain exposure to the stock via ALPS Clean Energy ETF (NYSE:ACES). Showing on the Concept Lawn puts Lucid in front of collectors and connoisseurs who gather each year to see design directions and technology statements that preview what could reach the road. At the Concours Village, Lucid plans experiential activations that channel the "California Without Compromise" ethos, including wellness-focused refreshments, a chilled "cryo" pick-me-up, and a fragrance-led journey inspired by redwood forests and rugged coastline, touchpoints meant to reflect Gravity's interior mood boards. For the first time during Monterey Car Week, Lucid said it will offer demonstration drives of both models. Gravity seat time is expected to highlight utility and ride refinement, while Air continues to emphasize flagship efficiency and performance for luxury-sedan shoppers. On August 5, Lucid reported second-quarter revenue of $259.4 million, missing analyst estimates of $296.24 million, according to Benzinga Pro. The EV company reported a second-quarter adjusted loss of 24 cents per share, missing estimates for a loss of 21 cents per share. Lucid said it produced 3,863 vehicles in the second quarter and delivered 3,309 vehicles. Year-to-date, Lucid has now produced 6,075 vehicles and delivered 6,418 vehicles. Lucid lowered its total production forecast for 2025 from approximately 20,000 vehicles to a range of 18,000 to 20,000 vehicles. A Viral Cybertruck Hoax Got So Big, Tesla Had to Break Its Silence

Elon Musk has always wanted the Cybertruck to be the vehicle everyone talks about. After a bizarre video went viral over the weekend, he got his wish, just not in the way he intended. The rumor grew so outlandish and spread so far that Tesla, a company that famously doesn't have a public relations department, was forced to do something it rarely does: publicly deny it. The incident highlights the Cybertruck's strange and precarious position. It's a vehicle so polarizing and so relentlessly hyped by its creator that it has become a magnet for controversy and, now, viral hoaxes. The drama started on Sunday when a user named 'bighuey313' posted a frantic video on Instagram from the driver's seat of his supposedly stranded Cybertruck. 'Wtf I'm in the middle of traffic, bro,' the user says, panning his camera over a dashboard screen displaying an alarming message: 'Tesla Cybertruck De-Activated. Critical Issue Detected | Contact Customer Service, Comply with Cease & Desist to Re-Activate.' 'Everything is locked. Cybertruck deactivated,' he continues. 'I can't move the car, bro, I'm stranded as f**k.' In a follow-up post, the user shared a photo of a supposed 'cease and desist' letter from Tesla, claiming the company was taking legal action against him for writing a song titled 'Cybertruck.' The implication was terrifying: Tesla had remotely disabled his vehicle over a minor legal dispute. He also claims Tesla sent him a cease and desist letter because he made a song titled Cybertruck or something like that. That's why the error message in the video mentions a cease and desist. 🤣 — Jeremy Judkins (@jeremyjudkins_) August 11, 2025The video exploded across every major social platform. But as it spread, eagle-eyed users began pointing out inconsistencies, noting that the signature on the letter was from a Tesla lawyer who no longer used that title. The rumor became so damaging that on Monday, Tesla's official account on X posted a rare, direct denial. 'This is fake – that's not our screen,' Tesla wrote. 'Tesla does NOT disable vehicles remotely.' This is fake – that's not our screen. Tesla does NOT disable vehicles remotely. — Tesla (@Tesla) August 11, 2025The fact that Tesla had to respond at all speaks to the Cybertruck's troubled reputation. As Gizmodo has previously reported, the sci-fi pickup has been a commercial bust. Its new vehicle sales plunged by over 50% in the second quarter, and its resale value has crashed by more than 30% in the used car market. This reality is a stark contrast to the relentless hype from Musk, who has called the truck 'apocalypse-level safe' and 'built bullet tough.' This combination of high-profile hype and real-world failure has made the Cybertruck a perfect target. People are primed to believe the worst about it, and the idea of a powerful, faceless corporation remotely disabling a customer's vehicle taps into the deepest fears of EV skeptics. For Tesla, the stakes were too high to ignore. While the recent, last-minute rush for expiring EV tax credits has given the Cybertruck a temporary sales pulse, its long-term viability is still in question. A viral rumor about the company having a remote 'kill switch' is the last thing a struggling brand needs. The entire saga shows that the Cybertruck is a cultural lightning rod, and Tesla will be forced to keep putting out the fires it inevitably creates. For a truck that's already struggling to win over buyers — and is increasingly viewed as a commercial flop — even a fake viral story can further erode its image.

Santa Clarita's new 720-acre mountain bike park to open winter 2025

Santa Clarita is appealing to outdoor enthusiasts as it transforms 720 acres in Haskell Canyon into a mountain biker's paradise. The $7.4 million Haskell Canyon Bike Park project has been three years in the making and is set to open in December of 2025. From the entrance sign to the last jump line, Jess Albrecq, with the city of Santa Clarita, says that 15 miles of trails will offer a little something for riders of all skill levels. "So if your skill level is starting out as someone who has never ridden before, you're going to be able to come out and learn how to ride in a flat open area and then progress your way through this, and take it as far as you want to go," he said. There is a perimeter trail that climbs around the entire park, single-track trails, downhill flowlines, jumps, berms, rollers, and more. Santa Clarita native and professional mountain bike racer Spencer Rathkamp, said he developed his skills in the area and is excited about what the park can do for the sport. "This park is going to be pretty sweet," he said. "For the city to be willing to put that much money behind something, it means that they believe in what mountain biking can do for the community." The city worked with Avid Trails on the design, and the company is also providing construction support to make sure everything gets done according to plan. Trail users say there is a lot of open space, but not many trails are dedicated to mountain bikers. "The exciting part is there is nothing like this in any other city in Southern California. It's the only thing like it, it's the first of its kind and Santa Clarita is just booming with mountain bikers," Tony Arnold, Santa Clarita Valley trail user, said. Haskell Canyon Bike Park is located at 21450 Copper Hill Drive in Santa Clarita and will operate year-round, free, with an expected opening in December 2025.
