CM Nayab Singh Saini said, '...Under the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana, we have allocated a plot of 30 yards to those poor families residing in the city who do not have their own house, and we have allotted plots to 15,256 such families. I am happy that today the elderly do not need to go to any office; they can apply for a pension and receive it sitting at home. Our government has started providing this facility...'.
Earlier on Sunday, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini had said, '...Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and guidance of Union HM Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, we are in power for the third time both at the Centre and in Haryana. I am happy that the coming time is ours. 2029 is of the Bharatiya Janata Party. We must not stop, we must not get tired. We have to ensure that developed Haryana contributes the most to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolve of a developed India.'

Additionally, to establish the state as a global destination for pilgrimage, a proposal has been made to organise three Melas every year at Surajkund and to celebrate the International Gita Mahotsav on a larger scale, with a request for financial assistance from the Central Government. Haryana Chief Minister had paid a courtesy visit to the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in New Delhi on July 2. During the meeting, CM Saini had said that Disneyland in Haryana, particularly in the Delhi-NCR area, will be a game-changing project. This entertainment hub will bring economic, cultural, and social benefits not only to the state but to the country as a whole. (ANI)

11K security personnel, snipers on high-rises to keep Delhi safe on I-Day
A day before the country celebrates its 78th Independence Day, security measures in the Capital were stepped up with snipers being deployed at high-rise buildings and camera surveillance being increased across the city. 11,000 security personnel and 3,000 traffic police have been posted for security in and around the Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Friday. 'Commercial vehicles restricted' Delhi Traffic Police has issued instructions to restrict commercial vehicles from entering the Capital after 10 p.m. on Thursday. Special teams have been deployed at all major railway stations, inter-State bus terminals, airports, and metro stations for round-the-clock monitoring, a senior police officer said. On Wednesday, Delhi Police Commissioner S.B.K Singh briefed officers on the arrangements with a key directive to ensure there are no bird feeding points in the areas surrounding the Red Fort. 'The Delhi police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has asked non-vegetarian eateries to dispose of food waste properly so flocks of birds are not attracted,' a senior police officer said. This measure aims to prevent any disturbance to helicopter movement on August 15. Mr. Singh has also issued an order banning the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, hang-gliders, UAVs, drones, hot air balloons and other remotely piloted aircraft over Delhi skies between August 2 and August 16. 'These aerial platforms can be potentially misused by anti-social elements or terrorist outfits for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks, posing a serious threat to public safety, VIP security, and critical installations during the Independence Day celebrations,' an official order said. Speed boats have also been deployed along the Yamuna river for added surveillance, the officer added. Apart from physical deployment, surveillance through CCTV cameras, drone detection systems, facial recognition cameras and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras will be used to monitor the venue and its surrounding areas, a senior police officer said. UVSS cameras For the first time, under-vehicle surveillance systems (UVSS) will be deployed at five parking areas of the Red Fort to scan the underside of vehicles for explosives, weapons or contraband, the officer said. The admission to Red Fort on Friday is strictly through invitation cards and only labelled vehicles will be allowed in its vicinity, the officer added. Headcount cameras to track crowd numbers and devices to flag unattended or suspicious objects will also be used, while intrusion-detection cameras will monitor restricted zones, he said. Plain-clothed surveillance teams are being mobilised to strengthen ground presence, another officer said. 'Social media platforms are also being closely monitored by the cyber units to detect and neutralise any possible online threats or misinformation campaigns that may disrupt peace,' he said.

Crossing a line: on drive against undocumented immigrants
Police in several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States are trying to identify undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants by their language: Bengali. This approach has led to some comical errors, such as the Delhi police listing 'Bangladeshi' as a language — a massive leap in linguistics. However, in most cases, this has become a tragic and farcical exercise. Several documented instances have shown Indian citizens being pushed across the border into Bangladesh. This has caused significant hardship for the families involved and embarrassment to the government. Some individuals have been repatriated to their families in West Bengal after intervention by the State government or courts. This 'pushback' of suspected Bangladeshis is a part of a larger effort to bypass the due process of law, which is often lengthy and rigorous. The rounding up of Bengali speakers has sparked a debate in West Bengal, where the ruling party, the Trinamool Congress, has called it an 'attack on Bengali identity' and launched a language movement. The targeting of Bengali migrants has immediate consequences for their livelihoods. Fearing detention and forced relocation to Bangladesh — a country to which they may have no connection — many migrant workers from West Bengal have left their jobs. In one particular case, Delhi police detained Bengali speakers who had been granted Indian citizenship under a well-known land exchange treaty with Bangladesh signed by the Narendra Modi government. Bengali is India's second-largest language by number of speakers. The State of West Bengal is both a source and a destination for migrant workers. The divisions being created over language and identity could easily escalate into conflict and violence. Even for the BJP, this exercise makes little political sense and may be counterproductive ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal. The migrant workers from West Bengal who are being harassed in other States do not belong to a single community. BJP leaders in West Bengal are already facing criticism over the issue and are setting up camps to assist citizens with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in various constituencies across the State. The issue of Bangladeshi citizens entering and working in India is not new. For decades, people from the neighbouring country have entered India for political and social reasons, including better economic opportunities. The boundaries of India are a creation of colonialism and a violent history of political conflicts. While sovereign borders must be protected, the central government must ensure that law enforcement does not become counterproductive and lead to the harassment of its citizens.

Union Minister assures Karnataka of making arrangements for supply of fertilizers to tide over shortage
Union Minister for Agriculture Shivaraj Singh Chauhan has assured Karnataka, facing urea shortage, of making arrangements to supply the remaining quantum of fertilizers from the allocated share to help tide over the shortage, according to Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy. In an official note, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said the Union Minister had made the assurance at a video conference of State Agriculture Ministers. Responding to an appeal by him to make up for the short supply from the Centre, the Union Minister had said that he would talk to the Secretary to the Union Fertilizers' Ministry and make arrangements, he noted. At the videoconference, Karnataka again blamed the Centre's short supply for the urea shortage in the State, and appealed to it to immediately provide the remaining stock of 2.67 lakh tonnes. Giving the break-up of the urea shortage, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy told Mr. Chauhan that the shortage in the State stood at 1.27 lakh tonnes in July and 1.4 lakh tonnes in August. Pointing out that the south-west monsoon is the mainstay for the State's agricultural sector and sowing would gain steam by August-September that marks the closing phase of this season, the Minister expressed concern that the sowing and standing crops may get hit if farmers did not get adequate fertilizers on time. He also noted that urea was in great demand as it was being used as a 'top-dose fertilizer' for most of the crops. Emphasising the point that shortage of urea and DAP had become a national problem, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said Ministers from several States had raised issues related to urea shortage at the videoconference. He also brought to the notice of Mr. Chauhan that the State government had begun the operations of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences in Mandya from this academic year and appealed to him to expedite the process of bringing the new university under ICAR's recognition so that the Central funds for development of the university could be availed.
