Vicious assault on Indian man in Dublin condemned as ‘mindless, racist violence'
Fine Gael councillor, Baby Pereppadan for Tallaght South, met with the man on Monday and said he is in 'shock'.
He told the Irish Independent: "He couldn't speak much because of the shock he was in, he only arrived in Ireland three weeks ago. He is not taking any visitors at the moment.
"I am calling for more Garda presence in the area. Small incidents like these are happening frequently in Tallaght.
"People need to understand that many Indian people moving to Ireland are here on work permits, to study and work in the healthcare sector or in IT and so on, providing critical skills.'
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South-West, Seán Crowe, has said that violent and racist attack on Parkhill Road in Tallaght on Saturday must be the last.
'The attack on Parkhill Road, Tallaght on Saturday was vile and utterly unacceptable on so many levels.
'Anyone who thinks this sort of mindless, racist violence makes their community safer is lying and fooling no one. Some residents are increasingly nervous to leave their homes due to this type of behaviour, regardless of whether they are new arrivals to our community or have lived here all their lives.
'I condemn this attack entirely and call on anyone with any information relating to this incident to reach out to the garda authorities. This is not the first such attack in our area, but it has to be the last,' he added.
In a statement Gardaí said: "Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the evening of Saturday 19th July, 2025 at approximately 6pm.
'Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries.'

Indian man still 'severely traumatised' after racially motivated attack
An Indian man who was brutally assaulted in a racially motivated attack has been left 'severely traumatised" by the incident. The father-of-one was on his way to the Vinayaka Hindu temple in Kingswood, south Co Dublin when he was set upon by a gang of vicious youths who stripped him, beat him, and stabbed him in the face in the Kilnamanagh area at around 6pm on Saturday, July 19. The shocking attack occurred in broad daylight by a roundabout in Parkhill Lawns just before the entrance to Kilnamanagh opposite the busy Kingswood Luas stop. The innocent victim was attacked amid completely false claims by the attackers that he had committed a sexual act at the local playground. The man's company is now making arrangements to have him accommodated - as he's too 'scared' to even leave his current home following the horrific attack. Local councillor Baby Pereppadan, who knows the victim, said the terrified man only arrived in this country a month ago - and now efforts are being made to bring his family to him. 'He came only four weeks ago. His family are still in India. He's shocked. I spoke to his friend just yesterday. His company is arranging accommodation and also they're awaiting paperwork to get his family to come over here. He is scared. There is real trauma. His face is all swollen and he has not yet recovered." Cllr Pereppadan said the victim described to him how he was on his way to the temple at the Kingswood Community Centre when two groups of 'kids' approached him. 'There was two groups, altogether there was about 30 of them there. He was walking, they prevented him and were saying things like 'bloody Pakistani, bloody Indians'. The victim was rescued at the scene by brave local resident Jennifer Murray - who has described seeing him left naked and bloodied in the street. Speaking to The Irish Mirror, Ms Murray said she has continued to speak to the victim - who she said has been left severely traumatised by what happened. 'He doesn't want anybody to know anything about him. He's been very clear on that. He 100 per cent supports what I am doing getting awareness out there about the racism. He just kind of wants to focus on recovering for himself. He's severely traumatised,' she said. He went down, completely covered in blood. He's got massive injuries. The blood did not stop flowing from his nose the whole hour I sat with him. They stripped him of his clothes. They took his trousers off him. They took his underwear. They took his shoes. They took his phone. They took his bank cards. They took everything. They left him for dead… they very, very easily could have killed him with what they did,' she said. Gardai say they are investigating the alleged assault and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Any person, including road users and pedestrians, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who was travelling in the area between 6:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturday 19th July, 2025 is asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí. Anyone who observed any unusual activity and/or anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Street Garda Station on (01) 666 6000, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. 'An Garda Síochána is appealing to people to not post or reshare social media content including footage related to this incident in order to protect the privacy of the victim involved,' a garda spokesperson said. Man sentenced to death over 2022 killing of Private Seán Rooney in Lebanon
The main defendant in the case, Mohammad Ayyad, was sentenced to death for his part in the killing, the Irish Independent understands. Ayyad had previously admitted to firing a gun during the incident. A number of other defendants received lesser sentences which were not immediately published. A military tribunal in Beirut trying seven men had been ongoing into the killing of Private Rooney, from Co Donegal, who died after the armoured vehicle he was driving came under fire near the village of Al-Aqbiya in December 2022. He was 24 years old. Trooper Shane Kearney from Co Cork also suffered serious injuries in the same incident. The troops were driving near the town of Al-Aqbiya, known to be a stronghold of Hezbollah. Mr Rooney was dropping colleagues to the airport to return home to their families for Christmas when their convoy came under attack. "This evening I have been informed of the completion of the hearings held by the Military Tribunal in Beirut for those indicted for the murder of Private Sean Rooney, who was killed during an incident on 14 December 2022 at Al-Aqbiya, Lebanon, in which a number of his colleagues in the 121st Infantry Battalion also sustained serious injuries,' Defence Minister Simon Harris said. 'I welcome the conviction of the main defendant and a number of the other defendants, who had not previously been in court. While noting the sentence handed down to the main defendant, I am disappointed and share the disappointment of Private Rooney's family at the lighter sentences imposed on a number of those convicted today,' Mr Harris said, without specifying the sentences imposed on any of the defendants. "Seán Rooney made the ultimate sacrifice in the noble pursuit of peace. This is a difficult time for his family and his colleagues, especially those who were injured that night. All our thoughts are with them at this time,' Mr Harris said. An initial date of September had been set for the trial but this was moved forward at the request of the Irish government as Private Rooney's family had been waiting more than two years after his death for any progress in the case, despite numerous hearings taking place. 'I appreciate that this is an incredibly difficult day for the family of Private Rooney. None of us can fathom their unimaginable pain and grief and all my thoughts remain with them at this time,' Mr Harris said.

Tallaght teen shouted ‘we're off to get a foreigner' before vicious attack on Indian man
'We're off to get a foreigner,' one teenager was heard shouting to another after an unaware Indian man walked past a playground in a Dublin suburb last Saturday evening. The man, who had only arrived in Ireland a week previously after being brought over by Amazon because he is a specialist in his field, was on his way to a nearby temple to pray. He didn't pay much attention to the teenagers continued down the road almost 500 metres before he was suddenly and savagely set upon. The teenagers made off with his clothes leaving him crawling half naked on the ground. Speaking to local mother Jennifer Murray spoke of how she came to the man's aid, put him in the recovery position, as it looked as if he was about to pass out, and reassured him he was not going to die. Pic: Seán Dwyer The brutal attack, which happened along Parkhill Road, in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, Dublin on Saturday at 6pm, is now being investigated as a possible hate crime by gardaí. Ms Murray told how the lie spread instantly around social media and how the victim was assaulted for a second time by another gang of teenagers and, also, grown men. One man got out of his car, walked over and punched him as Ms Murray tried to help the man. He also roared at the brave mother not to help him. The incident happened along Parkhill Road, in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, Dublin on Saturday at 6pm. Pic: Seán Dwyer 'For that man to get up and come out on to a road looking for help to be further attacked is beyond the realms of understanding,' Ms Murray told 'Teenagers are stupid, their frontal lobes haven't developed, but the adults, grown men pulling over cars to go over and punch him is beyond comprehension.' She said the victim was 'in a terrible state'. Blood was dripping from his head and out of his nose as she tried desperately to help him. 'Then I realised they had stripped him. He was highly embarrassed. He had no clothes on and was giving me his name, address and company he worked for. I told him this never should have happened to you, you are important, your life is important.' Jennifer Murray. Pic: Leah Farrell/ Ms Murray said if she and another woman hadn't intervened she fears the man would have died. 'They did the initial damage of stabbing him, beating him, forcing his clothes off and robbing his phone. Then they robbed him of his dignity. They took his clothes, there were no clothes around where it happened. They didn't even leave his clothes so he could crawl and put them back on. They took his clothing with his phone and his money during the attack. 'Another woman was telling them to stop then I intervened. I think he was lucky we were there because, given the extent of his injuries, he easily could have been killed.' Ms Murray said she sat and reassured the man as they waited for gardaí and an ambulance. 'He was incredibly polite and incredibly brave. He trusted me which must have been so hard, after he was met with so much aggression. 'I didn't want him to think he was going to die. I was trying to reassure him he will be OK, even though he will probably never be OK again.' The man told gardaí he had been punched in the head, but injuries he sustained showed a blade was used on his face. One deep cut to his forehead was almost two inches long. The victim has been deeply traumatised and is experiencing problems with his vision. 'I am in touch with him every day since,' Ms Murray said this weekend. 'He is extremely traumatised. 'He is out of hospital, but back in most days because he is having trouble with his eyesight and for wound dressing. He will forever be physically scarred, but I think the mental scars will be more detrimental to him,' she said. Since the brutal attack, the man has stayed mostly in his bedroom. He doesn't feel comfortable around more than two people at any one time. 'That's his limit and the whole PTSD crowd thing kicks in and he has to go back into his room. 'I have found an Indian psychotherapist to work with him when he is ready. He needs this as much as he needs medical treatment. 'At the moment he genuinely needs to be on his own, he is completely traumatised,' she said. Ms Murray told how the man has been shielded from the lies spread about him. She doesn't want to tell him he was attacked is because of the colour of his skin. 'How do you tell someone who is completely innocent that this is why that happened to him?' she asked. 'He won't understand why this is being said about him and then you have to explain it's because of the colour of your skin. And that's the real truth. He was first attacked because he was Indian and then further attacked because of the lies that were spread about him.' A woman who saw and heard the teenage gang target the victim has come forward to gardaí, but she doesn't want to be identified out of fear for her own safety. Ms Murray told this woman was in the playground with her child when she saw the gang nearby. They weren't causing trouble and she didn't feel overly intimidated by them. She noticed the Indian man walk past. Nothing was said to the man at the time, but as he walked away the gang split. 'Where are you going?' asked one of the teenage gang. Another said: 'We're off to get a foreigner.' The woman is 'riddled with guilt' because she didn't intervene before it was too late. 'She didn't expect a group of teenagers to go from a group of messers to a group of potential murderers in minutes,' said Ms Murray. 'The guards were here with me on Tuesday for three or four hours and they said: 'This is not normal'. 'Aside from the attack, the verbal abuse and the hatred surrounding him as he lay bleeding on the ground is simply a product of an untruth. 'This man was just out for a walk.'
