Barcelona star opens talks over contract termination

Yahoo2 days ago

Negotiations over a potential contract termination have been kicked into gear between La Liga giants Barcelona, and the entourage of Clément Lenglet.
That's according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this week provided an insight into the situation.

Defender Lenglet is for his part fresh off another loan spell away from Catalunya's capital, which saw the Frenchman spend the 2024/25 campaign with Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid.
Both parties are keen to continue their relationship into next season, albeit with a catch.
Atlético are said to have made clear to Barcelona that they are not willing to part with any kind of fee to bring Lenglet back to Madrid.
As much has left the Camp Nou brass in a difficult situation, desperate to get their out-of-favour stopper's massive wage packet off the club's books, whilst also under pressure from Lenglet himself to find a route to part ways for good this summer.

Deco and co, in turn, have been left with little choice but to take desperate measures.
As per a report from MD:
'Clément Lenglet and Barça are negotiating the termination of his contract, which expires in June 2027.'
It now remains to be seen if common ground can be found…

Two Real Madrid stars will play no minutes at Club World Cup

Two Real Madrid stars will play no minutes at Club World Cup Two members of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid will play no part at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. That's according to Blancos insider Jorge C Picon, who points towards Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão as the pair in question. Advertisement Both right-back Carvajal and central defender Militão are of course sidelined long-term at present. This comes owing to respective ACL injuries suffered early in the 2024/25 campaign. Both players have been spotted back on the grass over recent weeks, giving rise to suggestions that they could go on to feature in some capacity at the upcoming Club World Cup. As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, this will not be the case. As per a report from journalist Jorge C Picon: 'The plan is for Militão and Carvajal to travel to the Club World Cup, but Real Madrid does not want them to play any minutes. The goal is to get them into the swing of things and train with their teammates without taking unnecessary risks so they can be 100% fit for next season.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Barcelona's Joan García ‘plan' confirmed

The plans of the brass at La Liga giants Barcelona to tie up the signature of Espanyol star Joan García have this weekend been revealed. The info comes courtesy of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, and reiterates that the transfer can be considered all but imminent. Advertisement The name of shot-stopper Joan has of course dominated the European headlines for several weeks now. This comes after a brilliant individual campaign on the books of Espanyol sparked widespread interest in the services of the 24-year-old. The likes of Newcastle United, Manchester City and Arsenal, from England alone, were all tipped as potential landing spots for Joan. The week to date, however, has seen a clear and dominant frontrunner emerge in the race for the talented shot-stopper. As confirmed by a host of sources across Spain, Barcelona are on the verge of bringing Joan to the Camp Nou. And as alluded to above, on Saturday, an insight into everything from the fee to the timeframe and the Blaugrana's plans for next season has been provided. Advertisement As per Fabrizio Romano: 'Barça plan for Joan García: trigger the €25m release clause next week, complete the move and consider him as immediate key player for first team. Barcelona are currently not considering a loan move anymore. Not an option.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski says ‘mental tiredness' behind absence from Poland squad

Robert Lewandowski said he was not included in Poland's June international matches due to feeling 'mentally tired'. Lewandowski was absent as his nation beat Moldova 2-0 in a friendly on Friday. The 36-year-old will also miss Poland's World Cup qualifier against Finland on June 10 after making himself unavailable for this month's international window. Advertisement 'I know that I am often judged as a professional, not a person,' Lewandowski told Polish broadcaster TVP Sport. 'Returning from injury, I played two league games and told coach (Michal) Probierz that I did not feel good physically, but especially mentally. 'With all due respect to journalists, none of you thought about the fact that you can be mentally tired. Who among you can know better how I feel?' Lewandowski played 52 times and scored 42 goals for Barcelona this term, his highest number of appearances in a single season during his career, as the Catalan side clinched La Liga and the Copa del Rey title. The striker suffered a hamstring injury during his side's 4-3 victory over Celta Vigo in April and, despite playing in extra time for the 4-3 (7-6 aggregate) defeat against Inter in the Champions League semi-final, was an unused substitute for the subsequent victory over Real Madrid. He played in each of Barcelona's final three matches of the season, scoring twice against Athletic Club on the final day. Poland lead Group G in UEFA's World Cup qualifying standings with two wins from two matches. Their 1-0 victory over Lithuania to open the campaign was decided by an 81st-minute Lewandowski goal in March. (Piero Cruciatti/AFP via Getty Images)
