Licensed surveyor services in state by Oct. 2: Minister

Hyderabad: State Revenue, Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that licensed surveyor services will be made available across Telangana by October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. The move comes as part of a broader effort to streamline land registration and strengthen the Survey Department, which has faced neglect over the past decade. Addressing officials during a review meeting on Sunday, the Minister confirmed that the second phase of training for licensed surveyors will commence on August 18 in 23 district centers. Candidates are instructed to report to their respective Assistant Directors of the Survey Department by 10 a.m. on the day. 'The introduction of mandatory survey maps during land registration under the Land Act necessitates the availability of skilled surveyors,' Reddy stated. 'We are committed to ensuring these services are in place by Gandhi Jayanti.' The first phase of training, held from May 26 to July 26, saw 7,000 candidates undergo intensive instruction across district centers. Practical lab examinations were conducted on July 28 and 29 under the supervision of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), with results already declared. Successful candidates have now begun a 40-day apprenticeship program, after which they will be issued official licenses. To ensure transparency and efficiency in service delivery, Reddy directed officials to prepare a comprehensive survey manual. 'There is an inseparable relationship between the Revenue and Survey Departments,' he emphasized. 'Only by empowering the Survey Department can we improve the overall functioning of the Revenue system.' The Minister also acknowledged the long-standing neglect of the Survey Department and reiterated the government's commitment to revitalizing it. 'For ten years, this crucial department was overlooked. We are now correcting that course with focused training, regulation, and deployment,' he said. The rollout of licensed surveyor services is expected to enhance land governance, reduce disputes, and support citizens in securing accurate property documentation. With the second phase of training underway, Telangana is poised to set a benchmark in land administration reform.

TCA urges authorities to file FIRs against those involved in HCA scam

Khammam/Hyderabad: Strong lycriticising the functioning of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and alleging looting of more than Rs 200 crore in the name of District cricket alone, the Telangana Cricket Association on Sunday appealed the District Police authorities of Khammam and adjoining districts to file FIRs against those involved in the HCA scam and ensure arrests, so that young cricketers and their parents from rural regions are protected from corruption and malpractice. Addressing a press conference here at Khammam, the TCA General Secretary, Dharam Guruva Reddy strongly criticized the functioning of the HCA, alleging that the entire club system and utilization of funds were fraudulent, in violation of CAG guidelines, and even disapproved by their own auditors. Despite this, the HCA General Body illegally passed the financial accounts for 2022-23 and 2023-24. He also pointed out that HCA failed to take action against the previous office bearers and vendors involved in serious financial irregularities, already booked by the Telangana Police through four FIRs filed in October 2023. Reddy noted that the HCA completely ignored the reforms suggested by Justice L Nageswara Rao Committee (SMC) and continues to allow members involved in criminal activities to remain in power. He displayed the blatantly identical and copy-pasted audit reports of HCA for the financial years 2022–23 and 2023–24, exposing major accounting errors, negligence, and deliberate misappropriation of public funds amounting to hundreds of crores of rupees. He also pointed out that several clubs which never fielded teams and institutions which do not qualify under BCCI membership norms were shown as legitimate voters. Several district-level clubs have submitted false claims about infrastructure development for over 10 years. Reddy explained that funds amounting to over Rs 200 crore were looted by the HCA, including around Rs 12 crore misused in the name of district cricket alone. He highlighted that even after 90 years of HCA's existence, there was no visible cricket infrastructure or development anywhere in Telangana. He further requested the public representatives from Khammam to take stringent action against the corrupt HCA officials. TCA Khammam President Pradeep Kurapati, Secretary Veeresh Goud, Warangal Zonal Secretary T Jaypal, TCA representatives including Chitharanjan, Aleem, VD Rajeev, Senior Cricketers Konda Yadav, Veerla Ravi, Venkat, Naresh, Nazeer, Naveen, Konda Srinu, Joji Chako, Women Cricketers Radhika, Anjali, Vani, Padma and others were also present.

DPS Dwarka receives bomb threat; school evacuated, search operations on

Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka received a bomb threat call on Sunday, prompting authorities to immediately evacuate the school premises, reports news agency ANI. Police teams, along with bomb disposal squads and the Delhi Fire Service, rushed to the spot and search operations are currently underway, officials said. File photo of police conducting searches at a Delhi school that received a bomb threat.(Vipin Kumar/HT) The latest threat comes against the backdrop of a spate of similar incidents in the national capital in recent months. On July 18, over 50 schools across Delhi reported receiving bomb threat emails on a single morning, leading to panic and large-scale evacuations. Those included prominent institutions such as St Xavier's in Civil Lines, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Abhinav Public School in Rohini, and The Sovereign School in Rohini. Earlier in July, threats were also reported at St Stephen's College and St Thomas School in Dwarka, a day after three other schools in the city had received similar hoax emails. At least seven schools were targeted on July 17, the third consecutive day of such threats. Police later traced one of the hoax emails to a 12-year-old boy in south Delhi, who was found to have sent the message as a prank. He was questioned, counselled, and sent home. While all previous threats turned out to be hoaxes, the repeated incidents have raised concerns among parents and school authorities. Former Delhi chief minister and AAP leader Atishi had criticised the Centre and the BJP-led civic administration last month, saying: 'Think of the trauma that children, parents and teachers would be going through. BJP controls all four engines of governance in Delhi, and is yet not able to provide any safety or security to our children! Shocking!' Officials said that precautionary evacuations will remain the standard response until each threat is verified. Investigations are underway to trace the source of Sunday's call to DPS Dwarka.
