SA man arrested in US on DUI and felony charges amid immigration crackdown

South African citizen Simon Gous, 37, has been arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Denver, Colorado, as part of a growing crackdown on immigration violations and criminal behaviour involving foreign nationals in the United States.
According to ICE's official X (formerly Twitter) accounts, Gous faces multiple charges, including: Driving under the influence (DUI)
Using a weapon to commit a felony
Making terroristic threats
Authorities revealed that Gous has a history of similar criminal activity, with multiple prior arrests.
He is currently being held in ICE custody, where he will remain pending immigration proceedings that may lead to deportation to South Africa.
'This arrest is part of a continued effort to remove individuals who pose a threat to public safety,' ICE stated in a post on X.
Gous's arrest underscores an ongoing trend of tighter immigration enforcement in the United States, particularly targeting individuals with criminal histories.
Legal experts warn that foreign nationals with criminal charges in the US may face increasing scrutiny and risk swift removal, especially under growing political pressure to reform immigration policies.

Gayton McKenzie reveals why Joslin Smith foundation is NOT active

Gayton McKenzie has set the record straight on why a foundation he established in Joslin Smith's name is not yet up and running. The Minister of Sport, Art and Recreation has taken a personal interest in the case of the missing Saldanha Bay girl who disappeared from her home last February. In May, Joslin's mom, Kelly Smith, and two others – Jacquin 'Boeta' Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn – have convicted and sentenced for kidnapping and child trafficking. In an X post, Gayton McKenzie clarified the confusion surrounding his vow to not only establish a foundation in Joslin Smith's honour, but donate his ministerial salary towards it. He posted on X: A simple search would have shown that the foundation is registered. We will make public the amount we have donated, which exceeds my salary. Explaining the delay, he added: 'It took long because someone already registered the name and wanted business opportunities from me in exchange for the name.' Gayton's post comes after media personality Dan Corder questioned if the foundation existed. 'Where is the staff, the premises, the website, the marketing, the work?' Dan asked. In July last year, Gayton McKenzie claimed that he was 'in the final stages' of registering a foundation in Joslin Smith's name. A month earlier, Gayton revealed that he would donate '100%' of his salary to the foundation, which he would establish to raise awareness of missing children in the country. In November, Gayton posted an update on Facebook: 'The Joslin Smith Foundation does not yet exist because we want to make sure we get it right. And don't just do it to please the members of other political parties who think this matter has anything to do with them. Gayton McKenzie vowed to donate '100% of his salary' to the Joslin Smith Foundation. However, this has yet to via Facebook: Gayton McKenzie 'It is a private, personal matter relating to my own funds. And what I choose to do with my own money. 'To rush into the creation of any foundation would be a mistake.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Foetus discovery draws rehab centre into spotlight again

IN A shocking turn of events, police have launched an inquest after a foetus and CCTV equipment were allegedly discarded in a roadside drain by a senior official at the Tetelestai Recovery Centre (TRC) on July 10. Also read: Luke Edwards' murder accused get bail Private investigator Brad Nathanson said a passing motorist, familiar with the official, witnessed him allegedly dumping items into a drain less than 10km from the centre. After the official drove away, the motorist investigated, recording a video on his cellphone before retrieving surveillance cameras, cables, and a blue plastic bag containing a foetus. Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, confirmed the grim finding and said an inquest docket has been opened. 'On arrival at the scene, police found the lifeless body of a newborn baby. Investigations are underway to locate the parents, and no arrests have been made,' said Netshiunda. TRC's owner Donovan de Klerk referred all questions to his lawyer, Wesley Rogers, who denied his involvement. 'My client is not linked to this in any way whatsoever. We have confirmed that the foetus issue is an inquest docket and De Klerk is not a suspect. Reports otherwise are false and defamatory,' said Rogers. The centre is also under scrutiny following the April death of patient Luke Edwards, whose body was discovered on the grounds of a nearby old-age home. Four fellow patients were arrested earlier this month and released on bail pending further investigation. For more South Coast Sun news, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Mother issues warning after daughter (12) escapes terrifying encounter in Shelly Beach

A concerned mother is warning others to stay alert after her 12 year-old daughter was approached by a man in a car and allegedly touched inappropriately in Shelly Beach. According to the parent, the incident happened in Jocelyn Street today at around midday. A man in a grey/silver vehicle stopped and offered the young girl a lift. Thinking he may be someone from her church, she got into the car and they drove up Prince Street. The man, described as an older, overweight white male with grey hair, wearing black shorts and a white T-shirt, then allegedly touched her inappropriately and refused to let her out of the vehicle. Thankfully, the girl managed to escape and ran to safety towards the church. 'This is every parent's worst nightmare,' said the mother. 'We are so grateful she got away, but it could have ended very differently. My daughter is traumatised from this incident. Parents, speak to your children and remind them never to get into a car unless you've confirmed it's safe.' The family is urging the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police. Since the warning was circulated via WhatsApp on local community groups, another woman has come forward, reporting a suspicious encounter with a man matching the same description. HAVE YOUR SAY
