‘Weapons' Director Zach Cregger Wrote Unique DC Film That Includes the Joker

After directing the 2022 movie Barbarian, which earned rave reviews, Zach Cregger's encore performance came in the form of the horror/mystery film Weapons. And based on the early returns, it's fair to say that Cregger is on a bit of a heater.
With a Resident Evil movie on the horizon with Cregger tabbed to direct, his next focus comes in the form of a script he dubbed as his favorite that he's ever written, as The Hollywood Reporter revealed in its newsletter Heat Vision. Best of all? It's a potential DC Studios movie.
Zach Cregger's DC Script Called 'Henchmen'
According to the reporter, Cregger wrote the script for Henchmen before Barbarian. The Hollywood Reporter offered details on the reported script, which also could feature several noteworthy characters.
"According to sources, Henchmen would center on a low-level henchman in the Gotham crime world who gains notoriety after managing to incapacitate Batman through a stroke of luck," the site wrote.
To add to the intrigue, the film would obviously feature Batman, but also has the Joker and Harley Quinn.
With James Gunn now the co-CEO of DC Studios and handling the bulk of the plan for the new films/scripts, it'll be interesting to see how Cregger's possible film moves forward. Per the report, Cregger has not pitched the movie to DC, but the company is aware of the interest.
Gunn and company have yet to cast a new Batman or Joker actor for its reboot, so the timeline could align well if the company is interested in moving forward with it.
Zach Cregger's 'Weapons' Already Proving to Be a Tremendous Hit
Although Cregger's latest project officially hit theaters on Friday, Aug. 8, the reviews have been rolling in for roughly a week or so. To put it as bluntly as possible, the feedback on Weapons has been outstanding.
After holding a perfect 100 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes through the first 30-35 reviews, it's still standing with the elites at 96 percent based on 198 reviews.
The lofty praise for Weapons has been echoed by fans as well, with the film currently sitting at 90 percent with more than 500 reviews on the fan-focused Popcornmeter.
