Tamil Nadu Cop Intervened In Fight Between Father, 2 Sons. They Hacked Him To Death
A Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) of police, Shanmugavel, was hacked to death late Monday night near Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district. The incident occurred when he responded to a domestic clash between a father and his two sons - allegedly under the influence of alcohol - at a private estate in Kudimangalam, owned by a local AIADMK MLA.
According to police sources and eyewitness accounts, SSI Shanmugavel, who was on night patrol duty, rushed to the scene after a distress call to emergency services about a violent altercation. The estate workers Murthy and his sons Thangapandian and Manikandan were reportedly involved in a heated fight, with the sons attacking the father. Shanmugavel intervened to break up the clash and tried to arrange an ambulance to take the injured father to the hospital.
However, while speaking to Thangapandian, the younger son Manikandan, who had been hiding, allegedly attacked the officer with a sickle. The father and elder son then reportedly joined the assault, chasing and hacking the officer to death. His driver managed to escape and alert authorities.
The three accused are currently on the run. Five special police teams have been formed to apprehend Murthy and his sons.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep shock and grief over the killing. In a statement, he offered condolences to the bereaved family and announced Rs 1 crore in financial relief, along with a government job for one eligible family member.
The key opposition AIADMK is yet to react. The incident has sparked outrage just eight months ahead of the 2026 state elections. The BJP's Narayanan Thirupathy called the attack "shocking," warning that such incidents could not be dismissed as "personal enmity." "It's the duty of an honest government to uphold law and order and restore discipline when things go awry," he said.

TUMAKURU: Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara here on Friday expressed confidence that the Metro Rail project from Bengaluru will be extended to Tumakuru as some companies have expressed interest to implement the project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. 'The Metro Rail feasibility report was submitted to the government and it will be presented before the cabinet or technical committee. Some companies have come forward to implement the project and a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be floated to run the project. He said the work on the six-lane National Highway between Bengaluru and Tumakuru is in progress and it will be converted to ten lanes. The minister said CM Siddaramaiah, PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi and he met Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss this project. Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan and Superintendent of Police Ashok KV have cleared some bottlenecks and the work will be completed by 2026, he said. He hoped that the construction of a new international cricket stadium near Tumakuru by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will help prevent stampedes like the one at M Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed the lives of 11. CM pledges to rejuvenate Yamuna, build world-class infra
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in her maiden Independence Day speech on Friday, pledged to rejuvenate the Yamuna and assured people that her government would develop world-class infrastructure. During the event at the Chhatrasal Stadium amid a heavy downpour, she announced that her government would form a welfare board for gig workers to ensure their wellbeing. She stressed that her government was working to address the issue of waterlogging and better roads. "I pledge to rejuvenate the Yamuna. Our government is working from day one to clean it. Several promises were made to clean the Yamuna, but little was achieved. Yamuna will be clean to an extent that we will be able to see the Sun's reflection in its waters, and we will be able to perform veneration on its banks," the chief minister added. Assuring people that Delhi would soon be the city of dreams, she said the BJP government was committed to providing Delhi with an infrastructure that is the best in the country. Highlighting the achievements of her government, Gupta said it recently passed a bill to regulate fees of private schools as she stressed that "we are the custodians of the pockets of parents".
