Mitsubishi Motors Launches Enhanced Triton Athlete in Malaysia

The Sun11-06-2025
MITSUBISHI Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in the country, is celebrating two decades of operations with the launch of an upgraded Triton Athlete. This latest iteration of the brand's flagship pick-up truck combines refreshed styling with improved practicality, reinforcing its reputation for rugged reliability and dynamic performance.
The enhanced Triton Athlete arrives at a time when Mitsubishi Motors is marking 20 years of presence in the Malaysian market. As part of the celebrations, the company has rolled out a series of exclusive promotions and incentives for customers.
The Triton Athlete, now offered at a revised price of RM159,980 (on-the-road, without insurance, for Peninsular Malaysia), features several design and functional enhancements. These include a more aggressive front bumper garnish that accentuates its commanding presence, a new styling bar that adds to its muscular profile, and a tailgate assist function designed to make loading and unloading more effortless. A decorative body decal also gives the vehicle a distinctive and personalised appearance.
MMM has described the new Triton Athlete as a model that reflects its continued commitment to delivering high-quality, high-performance vehicles tailored to Malaysian drivers. The flagship pick-up has enjoyed sustained popularity in the market, with close to 120,000 units sold since its introduction. The model's enduring appeal stems from its ability to combine SUV-like refinement with off-road capability and day-to-day usability.
Shinya Ikeda, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, stated that the Triton has become a trusted symbol of strength and dependability among local motorists. He added that the latest enhancements reaffirm the brand's dedication to evolving with customer needs while maintaining the vehicle's core appeal. According to him, the 20th anniversary is a moment to reflect on Mitsubishi's journey in Malaysia and to thank customers for their unwavering support.
In conjunction with the anniversary, Mitsubishi Motors is offering an exclusive promotion for Triton Athlete buyers. For a limited period, customers may choose between a five-year free maintenance package or up to RM8,000 in rewards. The Triton Athlete is also backed by a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, adding to its long-term value proposition.
Financing packages through Maybank or Public Bank are also available, with interest rates starting as low as 0.6 per cent. These tailored offers aim to make the range-topping Triton Athlete more accessible to customers across the country.
To further engage with the public, MMM is launching a nationwide 'Scratch & Win' contest beginning June 16. Customers who book a new Triton or XPANDER at any authorised Mitsubishi dealership will be eligible to participate. Upon vehicle registration and collection, they will receive a scratch card with prizes including the iPhone 16, iPad, iPods, Seiko watches, and THULE merchandise.
As the company celebrates its 20th year in Malaysia, Mitsubishi Motors is using this milestone not only to highlight its achievements but also to reaffirm its focus on innovation, customer satisfaction, and value. The enhanced Triton Athlete stands as a testament to that commitment, offering drivers a compelling blend of style, functionality, and performance.

M'sia must do the right thing, Sim tells Guan Eng on minimum wage

PARLIAMENT | Human Resources Minister Steven Sim has pressed home the importance of mandating the same minimum wage for Malaysian workers and migrant workers alike. During his winding-up speech on the 13th Malaysia Plan at Parliament today, he cited humanitarian as well as pragmatic reasons for the policy, in response to Lim Guan Eng's (Harapan-Bagan) proposal to do away with the minimum wage mandate for migrant workers.

Malaysian homeowners not protected in current form of Urban Renewal Act, says Fomca

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is not ready for the Urban Renewal Act (URA) in its current form as it is too sensitive, says Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) chief executive officer Dr T. Saravanan. 'The Act is too far-reaching, and too dangerous to be rushed into Parliament without a fundamental revamp and genuine stakeholder consultation. At stake are the very homes, livelihoods, and security of Malaysian families,' he said. Saravanan added that safeguards must be put in place to protect homeowners, as developers have been approaching residents with half-truths and promises that are either misleading or incomplete or applying pressure to sign consent documents. 'For most Malaysians, a home is their largest lifetime investment, built through decades of hard work and representing priceless family memories. To expose citizens to such risks without strong safeguards is unacceptable,' he added. Saravanan then said that if the URA is introduced in its current state, it will tilt the balance dangerously in favour of developers, effectively becoming a developers' charter instead of a people's charter. 'Fomca insists that a 95% consent threshold is the only acceptable safeguard. Any lower threshold — whether 75 or 80% — would open the door to forced displacement,' he added. Saravanan said that a 95% safeguard ensures that redevelopment can only proceed with overwhelming community support and compels developers to negotiate fairly instead of forcing through projects with a slim majority. 'Any credible URA must guarantee fundamental rights for homeowners. Families must have access to clear and accurate information in languages they understand, not sales pitches masquerading as proposals,' he added. Saravanan then said that consent must be verified independently and transparently, free from coercion. 'Disputes must be resolved through independent tribunals with equal representation, and legal aid must be made available so that no homeowner is left voiceless,' he added. 'Compensation must reflect not just market value but also relocation costs and the emotional loss of uprooting families. Above all, dignity and non-coercion must be guaranteed,' said Saravanan. He then said that urban renewal should be about empowering communities and not displacing them. 'Urban renewal should preserve social bonds, not tear them apart. It should strengthen trust between the people and the government, not erode it,' he said. 'If the URA is rushed through Parliament in its present form, it risks leaving ordinary citizens exposed to exploitation and injustice, undermining public faith in both government and law,' added Saravanan.

Datuks, doctors among owners of RM10mil luxury cars seized over unpaid road tax

SEBERANG JAYA: The Penang Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized 38 luxury vehicles worth more than RM10 million in "Op Luxury" for offences involving expired road tax and insurance. State RTD director Zulkifli Ismail said the operation, conducted from June until yesterday, targeted luxury cars being driven without valid documentation. "The seized vehicles included Rolls Royce, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Ferrari models, all without valid road tax or insurance ranging from six months to more than two years. "Yet, they were still being used on the road. "This is not only a loss to government revenue but also endangers other road users if an accident occurs. "For example, the Rolls Royce, valued at over RM3 million, carried a road tax of RM54,000 per year, which had not been paid for the past year. "In total, the seized cars owed RM77,400 in unpaid road tax," he told reporters today. Zulkifli said the owners included companies and individuals such as businessmen with the title 'Datuk' and doctors. At the time of the seizures, some vehicles were driven by family members or company employees. "The most common excuse given was forgetting to renew the road tax, but there were also cases where owners deliberately avoided payment despite being able to afford it. "All the seized cars will remain at the state RTD office until the owners settle their summonses and renew both road tax and insurance," he said. He said while ownership documents for the vehicles were complete and valid, the lack of road tax and insurance required them to be seized and investigated under Sections 23 and 90 of the Road Transport Act 1987. "This operation will continue to ensure all vehicles comply with the regulations. "We are not against luxury vehicles, but enforcement is crucial for road safety. "If an accident involves an uninsured vehicle, it creates problems not only for the owner but also for third parties," he said. Recently, it was reported that RTD had seized 270 luxury vehicles nationwide for the same offences under Op Luxury, which has been ongoing since July 1. RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the operation was being carried out continuously across all states to take firm action against luxury vehicles being driven without valid licences or insurance.
