Olympic champion Zheng to face Siniakova first at Wimbledon
London, June 27 (UNI) China's Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen will start this year's Wimbledon Championships campaign with first-round opponent Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic as
the main draw was revealed here on Friday.
Zheng, 22, reached the third round in her first appearance at Wimbledon, but failed to pass the opening round in the last two years.
As the fifth seed in the women's singles main draw, Zheng will meet Siniakova on Monday. Siniakova, with 10 women's doubles Grand Slam titles in her pocket, reached the third round in the women's singles event at Wimbledon three times.
She entered the Berlin Open through qualifiers last week, but lost to former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the round of last 16.
Zheng reached her first career grass-court semifinal at the Queen's Club Championships earlier this month, but withdrew from the Berlin Open due to a neck injury.
Zheng's compatriot Wang Xinyu, who reached the Berlin Open final by beating newly-crowned French Open champion Coco Gauff, will face 15th seeded Czech Karolina Muchova in the first round.
The 23-year-old Wang stunned American ace Jessica Pegula in the second round at last year's Wimbledon before reaching the fourth round for the first time.
Meanwhile, the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus will play against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine.
Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova will face Filipino rookie Alexandra Eala.
In the men's singles main draw, the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is going to lock horns with his Italian compatriot Luca Nardi, while defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will meet Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round.

Motor racing-Norris leads McLaren practice one-two after Dunne shines
SPIELBERG, Austria (Reuters) -Lando Norris led Formula One leader Oscar Piastri in a McLaren one-two in second practice for the Austrian Grand Prix on Friday after George Russell went fastest for Mercedes in the opening session. HT Image Norris had handed his car to Alex Dunne for an impressive F1 practice debut for the Irish rookie and Formula Two leader, but the Briton was right up to speed as soon as he got back behind the wheel. After Russell's best of one minute 05.542 seconds in the early afternoon, Norris -- 22 points behind Piastri in the title battle after 10 of 24 races -- lapped in 1:04.580 with Piastri 0.157 slower. Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen, a five-times winner at his team's home circuit, was the only other driver under the five second mark with a 1:04.898. "We've shown a bit more pace than some of the others. I certainly think they're going to catch up. Max is not far behind and they usually improve a lot into Saturday," said Norris. Russell, winner from pole position in Canada two weeks ago after the McLarens collided, was sixth in practice two with Lance Stroll a surprise fourth for Aston Martin and Charles Leclerc fifth for Ferrari. "First practice was definitely a surprise to us," commented Russell. "The McLarens were mighty strong, especially this afternoon. I don't really see that changing. We'll do our best but I don't really think we'll be fighting for pole." Verstappen was without regular race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase for the weekend due to personal reasons with Simon Rennie taking over. "Overall today was quite straightforward and we didn't have any big issues," said Verstappen. DUNNE IMPRESSES Dunne, given track time as part of team obligations to give rookie drivers F1 experience, was the talk of the first session when he lapped fourth fastest and only 0.069 slower than Piastri. Still only 19 and the first Irish driver in 22 years to take part in a grand prix weekend, he thanked the team over the radio as the chequered flag fell. "A little boy's dream came true, and this is definitely the best day of my life," he said. "Thank you everyone for letting me do this, and thanks to Lando as well for trusting me with his car." McLaren team boss Andrea Stella cautioned not to read too much into the time, however. "Alex has been quite diligent and impressive, and then he also had the chance to show some speed and, no surprise, he is a fast driver," said the Italian. "I think we need to be a bit careful looking at the lap times, because his came later on in the stint when the fuel was down. But I think encouraging and impressive in terms of Alex himself, and also I think a good session for McLaren." Austria has the shortest lap of the year in terms of time and all but 20th-placed Haas driver Oliver Bearman were within a second of Russell in the opening session. Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton was ninth and 10th respectively in the sessions as Ferrari made a difficult start to their preparations with mechanics working on both cars during practice one. Neeraj Chopra reclaims top spot in World Rankings, Arshad Nadeem fourth
Neeraj Chopra returned to the top of the World Rankings in the latest list released on the official website of the World Athletics this week. Neeraj, the reigning world champion in men's javelin throw, lost the No. 1 ranking to Anderson Peters on September 17 last year after the Grenadian won the Diamond League Final in Brussels. However, a series of consistent performances has finally helped him overtake Peters. As per the latest list released on Tuesday, Neeraj has 1445 points while Peters is on 1431. Germany's Julian Weber is third with 1407 while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the current Olympic champion, is fourth with 1370. The 27-year-old Neeraj, who will defend his title at the World Championships in Tokyo in September, started his season with an invitational meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where he won with a throw of 84.52m in April. After Doha, Neeraj competed at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, where he (84.14m) again finished second to Weber (86.12m). Neeraj finally beat Weber at the Paris Diamond League as the Indian topped the field with his opening throw of 88.16m. On Tuesday, Neeraj recorded his third victory of the season at the Ostrava Golden Spike with 88.16m throw. Neeraj's next event will be the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic which will take place at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on July 5.
