Prince George turns 12: A royal birthday celebration with a charming new photo

LONDON, July 22: Kate Middleton and Prince William have shared a new photograph of their son, Prince George, in celebration of his 12th birthday on Tuesday. 'Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!' the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in the caption accompanying the image, which was posted on their official X and Instagram accounts. The photo shows the young royal smiling warmly at the camera, leaning casually against a wooden fence with his arms crossed. Prince George is dressed in a white shirt layered with a fleece vest, exuding a relaxed and cheerful demeanor. The official Royal Family account also reposted the picture, adding their own birthday wishes: 'Wishing a very happy birthday to Prince George!' Born Prince George Alexander Louis on July 22, 2013, at 4:24 p.m., in the private Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, he remains a prominent figure within the royal family. This year, Prince George has garnered significant public attention, solidifying his role as a key member of the Firm. His first public appearance in 2025 was in April, when he and Prince William attended a UEFA Champions League match in Paris. Although a private outing, fans enjoyed seeing the father-son pair share a moment bonding over their mutual love of football. Prince George's first official royal engagement of the year took place on May 5 at Buckingham Palace, where he participated in military ceremonies honoring VE Day. The young prince not only joined the procession but also appeared on the palace balcony to watch the RAF flypast and attended a tea party held for World War II veterans. In June, Prince George was again in the spotlight during King Charles's official birthday celebrations, known as the Trooping the Colour ceremony. Alongside his parents and siblings—Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—he appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the traditional RAF flypast and took part in the royal carriage procession. Most recently, George delighted tennis fans with his presence at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this month. He joined his sister and parents in the Royal Box to watch the men's final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, witnessing an intense four-set victory for the Italian player. Earlier this year, Prince George's sister, Princess Charlotte, celebrated her 10th birthday on May 2. To mark the occasion, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a charming photo taken by Princess Catherine during a windy hike, showing Charlotte dressed in a camouflage outfit and carrying a backpack. Charlotte's birthday followed just over a week after their younger brother, Prince Louis, turned seven.

Wimbledon expansion plan set to proceed after High Court ruling

WIMBLEDON: Carlos Alcaraz plays a forehand return to Jannik Sinner during their men's singles final match of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships in Wimbledon, southwest London, on July 13, 2025. - AFP LONDON: Wimbledon's controversial expansion plan is set to go ahead after a legal challenge against the decision to approve the proposal was dismissed by a High Court judge on Monday. The 'Save Wimbledon Park' campaign group took action against the Greater London Authority's decision last year to grant a planning permission that would almost triple the size of the site for the grass-court Grand Slam. The proposals would see the construction of 38 new tennis courts and an 8,000-seat stadium on the grounds of the former Wimbledon Park Golf Club, which would allow it to host All England Club qualifiers on site instead of across south London at Roehampton. The campaign group's barristers told the High Court earlier this month that the decision to approve the plans was 'irrational' and should be quashed, as Wimbledon Park was covered by restrictions on how it could be used. But Wimbledon chiefs defended the challenge, with the court told that the decision was a 'planning judgement properly exercised' and that the restrictions were not 'material'. In a ruling on Monday, Justice Saini dismissed the challenge. 'In short, the defendant's decision on the relevance of deliverability, applying to both the statutory trust and the restrictive covenants, was a planning judgement rationally exercised and having regard to appropriate and relevant factors,' he said. Planning permission for the scheme was initially granted by Jules Pipe, London's deputy mayor for planning, who said that the proposals 'would facilitate very significant benefits' which 'clearly outweigh the harm'. Following Monday's High Court ruling, the campaign group said it had been 'advised that it should' seek to challenge the decision. 'SWP is not taking this step lightly but believes that the GLA did make a significant legal error in the way it dealt with the special legal status of the park,' a statement said. The latest edition of Wimbledon concluded on July 13, with Jannik Sinner winning the men's title and Iga Swiatek lifting the women's trophy. — AFP

This Instagram Influencer Fooled The Internet At Wimbledon. Here's How

Last Updated: Sharing the Wimbledon moment on Instagram, Mia Zelu wrote, "Still not over the event." Influencer Mia Zelu's social media is brimming with stunning Wimbledon snapshots, front-row seats, chilled Pimm's in hand, and impeccably styled outfits. To her followers, she seems like the ultimate tennis enthusiast. But there's a twist: Mia Zelu isn't real. She never attended Wimbledon, and she isn't even human. Mia is an AI-generated persona, and her entire Instagram presence, with over 1,00,000 followers, is the work of artificial intelligence. Even though Zelu's bio clearly mentions that she is an 'AI influencer" and a 'digital storyteller," many still believed her posts were real. Mia's photos looked so perfect that many thought the influencer really attended the match. What's more interesting is that, even though the AI influencers account is popular, the person or team behind Zelu has chosen to stay anonymous. Sharing the Wimbledon moment on Instagram, Mia Zelu wrote, 'Still not over the event… but the party's a whole other game. Which Wimbledon match was your fave?" Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'It's my first time seeing you and girl, you are STUNNING. Jaw drop fr." 'You're so lucky to be there, enjoy," a comment read. An individual stated, 'She's not real, guys." One more added, 'Wait, so you aren't real? I'm so confused now." A quick glance at Mia Zelu's follower list reveals she's not the only AI in the spotlight. She's linked to several other virtual influencers, including Ana Zelu, who is portrayed as her sister. While Mia is styled with blonde hair and blue eyes, Ana shares a similar aesthetic and content style. Ana's account launched in January 2024, followed by Mia's in March 2025. Meanwhile, at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Jannik Sinner claimed the Men's Singles title by defeating Carlos Alcaraz, ending the Spaniard's two-year reign. In the Women's Singles final, Poland's Iga Swiatek claimed the trophy with a clear win over Amanda Anisimova from the USA. view comments First Published: July 18, 2025, 15:40 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Andrew Castle's commentary 'dampens' BBC Wimbledon record as fans demand he's removed

The BBC has released viewing figures for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, which saw Jannik Sinner and Iga Świątek claim the men's and women's singles titles respectively Jannik Sinner's remarkable triumph over Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles final at Wimbledon was viewed by a whopping 8.8 million spectators, according to figures released by the BBC. ‌ The majority of this audience, some 8.3 million, tuned in via BBC One, marking a significant increase from last year's viewership of 7.5 million. Sinner secured his inaugural Wimbledon title following an enthralling four-set contest, one of many highlights during the BBC's fortnight of coverage. ‌ In the women's singles final, Iga Świątek clinched her first Wimbledon title with a commanding straight sets victory over Amanda Anisimova, drawing a peak audience of 4.1 million on BBC One. The match was also streamed over one million times on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app. ‌ However, while Świątek's win was certainly noteworthy, British sensation Emma Raducanu proved to be the bigger draw for TV audiences, reports the Mirror. Her Centre Court showdown with Aryna Sabalenka pulled in a peak TV viewership of five million – the third highest for a non-final match in the past four years. These numbers were only surpassed by Raducanu's own fourth-round nail-biter against Lulu Sun in 2024 and Andy Murray's clash with John Isner in 2022. ‌ The BBC also announced that it achieved its largest ever overall audience for a Wimbledon tournament, with a record-breaking 69.3 million accessing coverage across BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and BBC Sport app throughout the championship's two-week duration. The figures soared past the 50.1 million online requests made in 2024, and also eclipsed the previous high of 54.3 million online requests recorded in 2023. ‌ Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, remarked: "This year's record-breaking digital figures for Wimbledon are testament to the huge appeal of the sport amongst audiences and the power of digital innovation to bring both new and existing fans closer to the action than ever before. "The way people are following Wimbledon is changing but that is exciting for us as we look to tell the best stories in different ways". Despite these impressive numbers, the BBC has faced pressure on social media platforms to remove a member of its commentary team. ‌ Andrew Castle, long associated with the broadcaster's Wimbledon coverage, was selected to commentate the men's singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, a decision that did not sit well with some viewers. "Why oh why do the BBC put Andrew Castle on lead commentary for the Men's Singles final every year, he's terrible. My ears have already start to bleed," one viewer complained. ‌ Another lamented: "Massive build up to this #WimbledonFinal and then BBC put Andrew Castle on commentary. Way to kill the match for me before it even starts." "Wow Andrew Castle is so bad he is already trending internationally," observed one viewer. "Heart sinks when I hear the words '... and your commentator is Andrew Castle'. Ruins enjoyment of every match. @BBCSport needs to cut the chord," remarked another. Agassi's involvement triggered a wave of enthusiastic responses from audiences, with many appearing to favour his analysis over Castle's contributions. Whether any changes are being considered for next year's broadcasting line-up is yet to be revealed, though.
