Nilai businessman loses RM1.5 million in fake investment scam
Nilai police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said the victim met the scammer on Facebook in April and was lured by promises of high returns.
"The businessman lodged a police report at the Pantai police station about 4.20pm yesterday, stating that he began dealing with the individual offering the online investment scheme on April 29," he said in a statement today.
The victim was instructed to download a mobile application called 'CDT MAX' and make 15 transactions totalling RM1,449,750 to seven different bank accounts for the so-called investment.
He only realised he had been scammed when he was asked to make further payments to withdraw the supposed profits.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and efforts are underway to track down the suspect.
Police urge the public to verify any investment offers with authorities and never share bank details with unknown individuals.

AGC appeals sentence for motoring influencer and brother in false report case
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has filed an appeal against the Muar Magistrates' Court's decision to sentence motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin and his brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, to one month in jail and a RM1,500 fine for lodging a false report. In a statement, the AGC confirmed the appeal was filed against the sentence given to Tengku Abdul Aziz, who pleaded guilty under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant. The appeal also covers Tengku Nizaruddin, who admitted to abetting the offence under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 182. 'This department refers to the Muar Magistrates' Court decision on July 25, 2025, which imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment from the date of conviction on July 25, 2025, and a fine of RM1,500, in default three months' imprisonment on both offenders, Tengku Abdul Aziz and Tengku Nizaruddin.' The AGC added, 'After examining and considering the decision of the Muar Magistrates' Court, this department has filed a notice of appeal today against the sentence handed down to both offenders.' On July 25, the court sentenced Tengku Nizaruddin, 38, also known as 'Ija', and Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, to one month's jail and a RM1,500 fine after both pleaded guilty. Two Bumiputera companies targeted for Bursa Malaysia listing by year-end
KUALA LUMPUR: The government aims to have at least two Bumiputera companies listed on Bursa Malaysia by the end of this year. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Bumiputera Rapid Acceleration and Value Enhancement (BRAVE) programme launched today will be a game-changer in building and boosting the Bumiputera entrepreneurial ecosystem towards achieving that target. He said BRAVE would offer alternative financing of up to RM1 million for high-performing Bumiputera companies at a competitive profit rate of just 3.5 per cent, in addition to introducing comprehensive capacity building initiatives to help companies advance to a higher level. "A total of 15 companies will be selected in the initial phase, and from that number, five will receive intensive mentoring to prepare them for listing on Bursa Malaysia by the end of this year," he said in a speech at the launch of the BRAVE programme at the Parliament building here today. His speech was delivered by the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, Datuk Ewon Benedick. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, noted that as of 2022, out of a total of 945 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia, only 62, or just seven per cent, were majority-owned by Bumiputeras. "More concerning is that over the past four years, only one Bumiputera company has been listed compared with 96 non-Bumiputera companies. This reflects an urgent reality; we cannot remain complacent with the 'status quo' but must step out of our comfort zones and create change. "To achieve this target, strategic training in areas such as investor relations, corporate communications, post-Initial Public Offering (IPO) growth strategies, prospectus preparation, and due diligence must be carried out meticulously, alongside strengthened collaboration with industry partners,' he said. Meanwhile, touching on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Ahmad Zahid said the sector currently accounts for 97.4 per cent of all businesses in Malaysia. In 2023, this sector contributed over RM631.1 billion to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and RM152.2 billion to exports, and most importantly, provided more than seven million job opportunities. "However, despite this strength, our MSMEs are still plagued by three key challenges - limited access to capital, low competitiveness, and constraints in scaling up,' he said. He expressed hope that the BRAVE programme would also serve as a high-impact accelerator or catalyst for the sector. - Bernama
