Elmo returns to X after 'mechahitler' and Epstein client list posts
ALBAWABA - Just days after Elmo's official account on X (formerly known as Twitter) was hacked, resulting in posts calling for the death of Jews and the release of the Epstein client list, the account has returned to its rightful owner.
Three days prior, the hacked Elmo account referred to itself as "mechahitler" while calling US President Donald Trump the puppet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a client on the notorious Epstein list. The viral incident sparked widespread controversy on social media due to the posts' political topics.
On Sunday, Elmo's X account was briefly hacked by an outside party, in spite of the security measures in place. We strongly condemn the abhorrent antisemitic and racist content, and the account has since been secured.
These posts in no way reflect the values of Sesame Workshop… pic.twitter.com/MaTqsjQ81V — Elmo (@elmo) July 15, 2025
Elmo's X account released a statement condemning the hacker's words, which read, "On Sunday, Elmo's X account was briefly hacked by an outside party, in spite of the security measures in place. We strongly condemn the abhorrent antisemitic and racist content, and the account has since been secured."
The statement added, "These posts in no way reflect the values of Sesame Workshop or Sesame Street, and no one at the organization was involved."
Before posting the statement, the account wrote on X, "Thank you for being kind to Elmo and all the people in your neighborhood. Elmo loves you."
The statement resulted in a flood of comments from angry parents demanding an apology from Elmo. A parent wrote on X, "I now can't stop my kids from repeating the words and language you used that day. Thanks Elmo."
Another parent added, "This is bigger than an apology. How can parents know @sesamestreet apps are safe for kids? sorry does not get to the root for how this happened. What safety measures have been taken to ensure it never happens again?"
Reports about Jeffrey Epstein were reignited by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after they revealed that he committed suicide during his prison sentence and didn't have a client list for his notorious island.
In addition to its official claims, the DOJ released a video that captured Esptein in his cell alone during the night he died, revealing no foul play or an external factor.
However, the closure of years of speculation, conspiracy theories, and political tensions didn't sit well with many individuals, sparking more debate and rumors on social media.

Unlikely alliance targets Epstein cover-up, Trump feels the heat
ALBAWABA - Republican Congressman Thomas Massie (Kentucky) and Democrat Ro Khanna (California) are leading an effort in the U.S. Congress to get sealed documents about the late Jeffrey Epstein made public. This is a rare example of two Democrats and a Republican working together. A story from Politico says that the move could make it harder for former President Donald Trump to distance himself from the scandal. Ten Republican lawmakers and five Democratic lawmakers have already backed the plan, which involves filing a discharge petition to get the bill put to a vote. People usually only see discharge petitions as symbolic, but this one is really taking off and could bring together people from all political parties, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Lauren Boebert, Rashida Tlaib, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. When Khanna talked to the reporters, he said, "This is about government openness and responsibility." No one should be above the law, no matter how rich or powerful they are. An story in the Wall Street Journal said that Trump sent Epstein a letter on his 50th birthday, which has made people look more closely at his past relationships with Epstein. Even though Trump has denied writing the letter and hasn't been charged with any crimes, the political damage is getting worse, especially among his supporters. This isn't the first time the two have worked together. They have worked together before on bills that would limit U.S. involvement in wars like those in Yemen and Iran. Analysts say this new effort might work if all Democrats back it, which Khanna said is likely based on recent conversations within the party. The effort is also part of a larger trend among populists on the left and right to find common ground on issues such as foreign policy, corporate power, regulating AI, and the cost of housing. When Democrats push for the Epstein records to be made public, they want to keep Trump on the defensive before the 2026 elections. Even though the former president hasn't been officially charged with any crimes connected to Epstein, there is a growing movement to keep his name in the scandal. People who support the bill say that Epstein's network needs to be fully open and honest in order to rebuild trust in the public and help victims get justice.

Stephen Colbert says goodbye as CBS cancels 'The Late Show' after Trump settlement controversy
ALBAWABA - Stephen Colbert, a comedian and political analyst, said on air Thursday night that CBS will end his show "The Late Show" in May 2026. CBS said in a statement that the choice to cancel the show was "purely a financial decision" and had nothing to do with how well it did or what it was about. The news came after Stephen Colbert criticized a settlement between President Trump and CBS's parent company, Paramount Global. Paramount agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle a case over changes made to an interview with Kamala Harris for president on CBS's "60 Minutes" in October 2024. Colbert often made fun of Trump on his show, and on Monday he called the payment a "big fat bribe." WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 14: U.S. President Donald Trump (/AFP) Press freedom groups and supporters said Trump's lawsuit, in which he said CBS edited the interview to make Harris look better, was "frivolous." They also said the deal would make the president even more confident in his attacks on the media. Some Democrats said that Paramount did something in exchange for something from the Trump administration in order to get the government to accept the company's planned merger with Skydance Media, which will be worth billions of dollars. Stephen Colbert said on his show on Monday, "I don't know if anything will fix my trust in this company." "But just guessing, I think $16 million would be helpful." Stephen Colbert said on Thursday that "The Late Show" would end because he is "not being replaced." "All of this is just going away," the crowd said with loud boos. Jimmy Kimmel Instagram Story Shortly after the news broke Thursday evening, Kimmel posted an Instagram Story with a simple, two-part message:'Love you Stephen.' And: 'F*ck you CBS and all your Sheldons.'

US airstrikes destroyed only one of three Iranian nuclear sites
ALBAWABA- A new U.S. assessment reveals that these strikes mostly destroyed only one of the three targeted Iranian nuclear sites, according to NBC News, citing current and former U.S. officials. The report highlights that the attack on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility was successful, setting back uranium enrichment capabilities there by as much as two years. However, the other two facilities, Isfahan and Natanz, were not as badly damaged. They may have been degraded only temporarily, with nuclear enrichment potentially able to resume within the next several months if Iran decides to do so. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told Reuters, 'As the President has said and experts have verified, Operation Midnight Hammer totally obliterated Iran's nuclear capabilities.' Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated to NBC, 'President Donald Trump was clear and the American people understand: Iran's nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz were completely and totally obliterated. There is no doubt about that.' Notably, the US and Israel launched joint airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in the last week of June, escalating tensions in the region. The 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran began on June 12, when Israel launched surprise airstrikes on multiple positions in Iran. The strikes were part of a campaign targeting Iran's nuclear program, which the U.S. claims is geared towards developing nuclear weapons. Iran maintains that its nuclear development is purely for civilian purposes.
