Col Qureshi to be 'poster girl' of BJP minority wing's outreach
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi will be the "poster girl" of the BJP's minority wing outreach as part of the 11th anniversary celebrations of the Modi government with a special focus on women among minorities.
As part of the celebrations, the BJP's minority wing led by Jamal Siddiqui has made plans to hold chaupals (community gatherings) outside mosques, dargahs, churches and gurudwaras. The first chaupal will be organised on June 9 in
Shaheen Bagh
in the national capital, Siddiqui told ET.
Women at Shaheen Bagh had led the protest, from December 2019 to March 2020, against the Modi government's move to bring in the Citizenship Amendment Act. Now, the BJP is aiming to convey through the chaupals that it is equally sensitive towards minority women as it is for others. "Our sister Colonel Sofiya Qureshi made the country proud during
Operation Sindoor
. With her as an inspiration and poster girl of our campaign, we would motivate women among minorities to join the
NCC
, join the forces, go for higher studies to become self-dependent and also contribute to the country," Siddiqui said.
Colonel Qureshi, along with IAF Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, led the official press briefings on Operation Sindoor.

Memorial park dedicated to Operation Sindoor to come up in Bhuj
Ahmedabad: A memorial park in the form of a high-density micro forest dedicated to , India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, will be built near Bhuj town in the Kutch district bordering Pakistan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Spread across eight hectares, the park, to be called 'Sindoor Van' (Sindoor Forest), will feature different sections dedicated to the Indian armed forces — the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as the Border Security Force (BSF), said Sandeep Kumar, chief conservator of forests, Kutch Circle. Kutch district shares both land and maritime borders with Pakistan. The site earmarked for 'Sindoor Van' at Mirzapar village near Bhuj includes a portion of land where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting on May 26 during his first visit to Gujarat after Operation Sindoor, he said. "We will grow nearly 80,000 plants, herbs, shrubs, and climbers of about 40-45 species in this park dedicated to Operation Sindoor to amalgamate the bravery and courage of our armed forces in this park," explained Kumar. The park will also serve as lungs for the town and spread a message of environmental conservation, he stated. "Operation Sindoor will be the central theme of this park. We will create different sections dedicated to the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF in the park and install murals of defence equipment and platforms such as INS Vikrant, drones, and the S-400 missile system to spread awareness," informed Kumar. During the event on May 26, Modi met some of the surviving women who helped in rebuilding the airfield in Bhuj, which was bombed during the 1971 war with Pakistan. "At that time, these brave women gave a sapling of the Sindoor (vermillion) tree to the PM. That gave us the idea of creating a micro forest on the Sindoor theme. We will also plant saplings of the Sindoor tree or Bixa orellana in this park," said Kumar.

AAP disengages from INDIA bloc, says alliance was only for 2024 LS polls
NEW DELHI: AAP on Tuesday disengaged itself from the INDIA bloc, saying the opposition grouping was formed only for the 2024 Lok sabha polls. It also alleged BJP and Congress had entered a 'secret, corrupt deal'. The statement came as Congress and 15 other opposition parties wrote to PM Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament on developments following the Pahalgam terror attack. AAP made the same demand separately. AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda said on X , 'The real alliance is between BJP and Congress behind the scenes. Rahul Gandhi says only that which benefits Modi politically. In return, Modi saves the Gandhi family from going to jail. Neither of them is interested in providing basic facilities like schools, hospitals, electricity and water to the countrymen.' 'To clean Indian politics, we must end this behind-the-scenes collusion. Rahul Gandhi and Modi may appear as opponents on stage but the truth is that they've become guarantees of each other's political survival. Congress's weak politics empowers BJP, and BJP's rule hides Congress's corruption,' Dhanda alleged in a statement issued by the party later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Asserting that the INDIA bloc was formed specifically for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Dhanda said, 'The alliance ensured that opposition parties secured 240 seats – this is a significant achievement.' He drove home the point that the alliance as far as AAP had lived its purpose and the party was not part of the bloc anymore. 'AAP will contest every state election on its own. We will be contesting all seats in Bihar later this year, ' Dhanda told TOI. 'In Parliament, however, our MPs will support the opposition's position based on what is best for the country and our MPs will vote accordingly in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,' Dhanda said. AAP and Congress have had a turbulent equation even as INDIA bloc partners. After much to and fro on seat sharing talks and much resistance to the alliance from the Congress's Delhi unit, the two parties finally did fight as allies in Delhi and also in Gujarat and Haryana in the Lok Sabha polls but were pitted against each other in Punjab. Later last year, the two parties failed to reach a consensus on seat-sharing in the Haryana assembly polls and fought against each other. In the Delhi assembly elections earlier this year too both parties fought a bitter battle that had put a big question mark on how both AAP and Congress would carry off as allies in the INDIA bloc.
