EastEnders pulled from TV schedules as statement is issued - but there's a twist
If you try to tune into EastEnders tonight, you'll notice that there's a serious lack of drama on BBC One.
The soap has been pulled from the schedules yet again to make way for – you guessed it – football.
It's that time of the year again when our slices of Albert Square life are shunted to one side for editions of Match of the Day. We're still yet to see Walford v Weatherfield appear in the TV guide…
Tonight, between 7.30pm and 10pm, the long-running show will provide live coverage from Brussels of the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Belgium and Wales.
But when can we catchup with the EastEnders?
Luckily, there's not too much of a change. Today's episode will air tomorrow, and henceforth for the rest of the week at 7.30pm.
If you can't wait until then, the instalment is already available to stream.
The serial confirmed the changes on X, writing: '#EastEnders schedule change! This week's EastEnders will air Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
'There is no episode tonight. But don't despair, you can also watch now on @BBCiPlayer.'
You won't want to miss it either – as a huge new storyline for the Knights kicks off.
Elaine (Harriet Thorpe) is furious after finding out that her husband George (Colin Salmon) helped his ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) with the relaunch of her bar The Prince Albert.
She desperately tries to make things right with him, just as Junior (Micah Balfour) bursts in and reveals that on Christmas evening, his dad spent time with his mum Sabrina.

Elsewhere, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) is in disbelief after finding adult content on Alfie Moon's (Shane Richie) laptop, and confides in Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) that she thinks he's turned to pornography in the wake of his cancer treatment.
When Alfie cooks a romantic meal, Kat tries to seduce him. Things turn frosty when he tries to slow things down, and she storms out.
Plus, Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) learns that Joel Marshall (Max Murray) has been shaming Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) for sleeping with him, and Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) is upset when life partner Patrick (Rudolph Walker) makes excuses to get out of giving her a massage.

EastEnders' Colin Salmon says soap is in a 'good spot' as new boss takes over
EastEnders' Colin Salmon says soap is in a 'good spot' as new boss takes over t was announced in September 2024 that Chris Clenshaw - whose final episode credit will air on Friday - is leaving the BBC One soap Colin Salmon (Image: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron ) EastEnders star Colin Salmon says the show is in a "good spot" amid a new Executive Producer taking over. It was announced in September 2024 that Chris Clenshaw - whose final episode credit will air on Friday (13.06.25) - is leaving the BBC One soap after three years as its head, and Ben Wadey, the programme's former Story Editor, will be replacing him. Chris created "mind-blowing plot twists and devastating real-life storylines" - with many coming in 2023, such as the return of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), the award-winning Loving and Losing Lola plot which saw Danielle Harold depart as her alter ego Lola Pearce, who died of a brain tumour. Chris also introduced the Knight family, who took over the Queen Vic, making them the first black and mixed heritage family to run a pub on any UK soap. And Colin - the head of the Knights - says Ben is taking at a high point for EastEnders. Speaking to The Mirror, he said: "I have always been a fan. There's great writing, we all work really hard. Article continues below "I think the authenticity of the humour of the East End, it's that you get stuff thrown at you and go, 'Oh that's fine, we'll deal with it', and then it all comes crashing down later, like in life. We're in a very good place with the show and it's fantastic for us." Colin's on-screen wife Harriet Thorpe (Elaine Peacock) said Ben's creativity and collaborative nature will build on Chris' success. She added: "Ben is wonderful. He's creative, collaborative and that's all you need." EastEnders features a diverse cast, and Colin said Ben's focus will be for the younger actors to be in the spotlight more. He teased: "It's great, we watch the show, we learn, we collaborate. It's nice to see the youngsters coming forward. They're all brilliant, amazing actors." Ben is returning to EastEnders from Channel 4 where he was a Commissioning Executive, overseeing Hollyoaks and a number of original dramas, including Generation Z. He originally worked at EastEnders as the show's Story Editor, and he worked on the soap's 35th anniversary in 2020, as well as a special episode that focused on Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) as she struggled with her alcoholism. Speaking about his new role as Executive Producer, Ben said: "I'm thrilled to be returning to EastEnders at such an exciting time for the show. "Having grown up watching and loving EastEnders, it sparked my passion for television, and I feel I've known the residents of Walford my entire life – so to lead this iconic BBC soap into its next chapter is a true privilege. Article continues below "I can't wait to collaborate with the exceptional team at EastEnders and build on Chris Clenshaw's brilliant work to deliver unmissable stories to fans - both those who have been watching for years and those just discovering Albert Square."

'I worked on Strictly Come Dancing and the show has lost its magic'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Strictly Come Dancing has been the jewel in the BBC's crown since it first graced our screens in 2004. However, in recent years, the much-loved programme has become somewhat of a headache for the broadcaster, having to navigate through a continuous flow of controversies. The latest incident involves Jamie Borthwick, known for his 19-year stint on EastEnders, who was suspended from the soap after using an offensive term towards disabled individuals. The 30-year-old actor, who danced with newcomer Michelle Tsiakkas on Strictly last year, has expressed regret over the incident that took place during filming for the show in Blackpool. This scandal follows closely on the heels of radio host Wynne Evans being dropped from the Strictly tour and subsequently from the BBC altogether, after he was filmed making an inappropriate comment. Although Wynne apologised at the time, he later stated he was "horrified" by how the BBC handled the release of his statement. Already last year, there were murmurs about Strictly's future amid an investigation into allegations of bullying among the professional dancers. This led to stricter regulations during rehearsals and resulted in the show featuring the smallest number of female celebrities in its two-decade run, reports the Mirror. (Image: PA) With all these events and the subsequent changes, the question remains: is there still hope for Strictly Come Dancing? Vincent Simone, a beloved professional dancer who graced the BBC show from 2006 to 2012, expressed his desire to see Strictly Come Dancing return to its original format in an interview with the Mirror. "Back in our day with Bruce [Forsyth], it was a very traditional Ballroom and Latin American show," Vincent elaborates. "Now it has developed so much and they've introduced so many different styles that me, myself, would be struggling to do like contemporary and all that stuff. "It didn't used to have any special effects - it was literally someone handing me over a CD with the music and saying good luck, off you go for next week. It's a much bigger team now with choreographers, helpers and cameras and so they juice it up a lot more. Sometimes I always feel like it's nice to strip it back to just two people dancing with the music. Like, really simple. I like that side of it." Brendan Cole, Strictly's legendary 'bad boy' pro from 2004 until 2017, concedes that he feels the show has lost some of its magic. However, unlike Vincent, he doesn't believe the show can revert to its simpler roots. (Image: PA) "With these big shows, the longer they run, the more bells and whistles," he comments. "Because every year a new producer steps in, they want to make the show their own. When [Strictly] first started there was a magic about it but if you watch that show now, it would probably seem very, very basic and very average compared to what you watch now. "But of its day, it had a magic and it had a beauty and it was very innocent. It's probably lost a little bit of that, but I don't think you could return to that format. I think shows have to improve and have to compete with other shows, otherwise they get left behind. "Strictly had an amazing 20 something years on television. I don't think you can compare the start to finish, but what you can do is admire the way the show has been produced over the years, and the fact that it still has a good family sort of value." He added: "So yes, it's had a couple of it may have had a couple of rocky years, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. It's just time." Meanwhile, Pasha Kovalev, who found love with his now-wife Rachel Riley while working on the show from 2011 until 2018, expressed that he misses the original VTs which showcased the relationships between the pro and celebrity develop in the training room as opposed to the skits that are filmed now. "You don't really speak much on the show," he says. "You stand next to your celebrity and listen to what the judges say. Those VTs before could show the actual friendship and relationship that develops between the two people on the dance floor in the dance room and you can get your personality across. That's why everyone loves Vincent now." Vincent cheekily interjected: "We had personality back in the day!"
