EXCLUSIVE ITV staff anger as 'tone deaf' bosses throw extravagant 70th anniversary party amid job cuts
ITV bosses have angered staff by throwing an extravagant anniversary party despite announcing major budget cuts and job losses.
The broadcaster sent out a companywide invitation this month explaining the bash will be in honour of their 70th birthday after the channel was set up in 1955.
'Celebrate our 70th in style', the invitation reads, 'enjoy delicious food and drinks, Instagram worthy photo opportunities and DJs' as future guests were informed of the one night only event set to take place at a west London location.
But ITV staff, who have been told the dress code is 'platinum', feel bosses throwing a party amid hundreds of redundancies is 'tone deaf' and they would rather the expense be used to salvage someone's position.
A source told MailOnline that 'no one feels like celebrating right now' after ITV announced Lorraine and Loose Women will be halving the number of jobs and significantly reducing the time they are on air.
Panel show Loose Women confirmed they have axed their live studio audience from next year, which presenter Nadia Sawalha said was a 'devastating' change.
A TV source explained: 'The feeling among staff is that the channel throwing a party is in really bad taste given hundreds of people are losing their jobs.
'The event will no doubt cost a large amount of money, and many believe that bosses should put those funds towards tying to limit redundancies.
'Many feel the tone is completely off, no one at ITV daytime, which is the biggest part of the business, feels like celebrating right now.
'The company has also made widespread cuts and redundancies across Emmerdale and Coronation Street as well as production labels Lifted, who make Love Island, and Multistory. No one feels throwing a big party right now is appropriate.'
As well as the London party, studios in Manchester and Leeds have also been invited to a bash for the 70th anniversary, which ITV bosses feel is an unmissable milestone.
A spokesperson for ITV said: 'As ITV marks its 70th anniversary this September we are holding staff events in London, Manchester and Leeds to which all staff at ITV have been invited.
'We're taking this opportunity to thank everyone for their efforts and commitment in continuing to produce award-winning, impactful and entertaining programmes.
'We are of course mindful of the impact the proposed changes to our Daytime productions in 2026 will have on some of our staff and we are working hard to support them.'
ITV Studios confirmed last month they are slashing the budgets of its biggest daytime shows including Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women, meaning more than 220 of 440 staff involved will lose their jobs.
This Morning, presented by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, will remain the same length while Good Morning Britain is being extended by 30 minutes and for the 22 weeks of the year that Lorraine is not airing, GMB plans to run an extra half hour.
MailOnline revealed how Lorraine was given the option to present the last 30 minutes of Good Morning Britain, but she refused the 'insulting' offer and insiders believe her show will only run for another year.
Meanwhile, GMB anchor Susanna Reid is reportedly negotiating a longer-term contract to become the 'face of the network.'
Loose Woman Nadia has expressed her distress over the looming redundancies, saying she is particularly upset by the fact the show will no longer welcome a studio audience, which means her friend, warmup artist Lee Peart is also losing his job.
She said: 'From next year there will be no Loose Women audience. I am totally devastated by this fact, I can't get over it at all.

Wild price of toast at Glastonbury festival and food prices revealed as revellers feel ‘ripped off'
FURIOUS Glastonbury fans have slammed the "ridiculous" price of food and drink at this year's festival. Festivalgoers have been sharing videos online of what's on offer at the Worthy Farm event's hundreds of food stalls, with some charging £14 for chips and £2 for "half a slice of toast". 4 4 4 Yesterday, The Sun revealed the cost of a pint at this year's festival, which kicked off on Wednesday and is set to welcome over 200,000 fans, is between £6.95 and £7.20 - up a maximum of 40p since last year. A festivalgoer from Manchester, known as on social media, posted a video to TikTok reviewing some French toast he'd bought for breakfast at the festival. The "classic French toast" with maple syrup costs £6, but with just three half slices of toast included, one user pointed out that the stall is charging £2 for half a slice of toast. "£2 for half a slice of toast, festivals are wild," they wrote. Another said: " That's Glastonbury for ya....", while another user argued that "anything under £10 is ok" at the festival. Elsewhere, food trucks have been spotted selling "loaded fries" for £14, toasted sandwiches for £10, and Mac and Cheese for up to £16. Another reveller, known as BoSFinesse, posted a video to TikTok of a burger he got at Glastonbury this week - with some of his followers pointing out the "eye-watering" price of £15. "Burgers are coming in at anywhere between 10 to 15 quid a pop, which is pretty much the average price of a meal anywhere at the festival" he said in the video, adding: "So be prepared to remortgage your house for this one." One follower replied: "15 f***ing quid...", while another said the prices at the festival were "ridiculous". "I'm sure I had one of these at an event a few weeks ago, the price was indeed eye watering but it was absolutely bloody delish!," another follower wrote. One follower fumed: "Why is it 15 quid... rent cannot be much... just ripping people off." Glastonbury chaos as bosses are forced to SHUT part of festival as Lorde performs surprise set However, Glastonbury has also been offering a £6 meal deal option since 2015, which is available at more than 250 stalls at the festival. It comes as prices at the festival's on-site bars caused a stir among fans earlier in the week, with some dubbing the costs "absolutely disgusting". A double shot of spirit with a mixer will set you back an astonishing £13, while pints of draught beer and cider cost between £6.95 and £7.20. Glastonbury bar prices Here's the breakdown of prices at Glastonbury: Burrow Hill Cider - £6.50 Brothers Festival Cider - £6.95 Brooklyn Pilsner - £6.95 Stonewall Inn IPA - £7.20 Spirits&Mixers (double) - £12.90 Spirit&Red Bull (double) - £13.90 Wine (175ml) - £7.95 Soft drinks - £3 Red Bull - £5 Burrow Hill is best value pint on the menu this year, coming to £1.91 per unit. Festivalgoers have also pointed out the huge premium being slapped on wine at the event, with organisers charging £32 for a bottle of wine that can be bought for less than than £10 from some retailers. As photos of the on-site bar menu emerged on social media earlier this week, one fan commented on X: " Imagine paying over £300 for Glastonbury tickets to be told it's a further £32 for an £8 bottle of wine. 🤪 don't give festivals your coin it's a proper scam." Some came to the defence of the festival bars, saying that the prices are "not bad". One fan wrote: "That's not bad considering it's a festival." Another person said: "Still cheaper than some pubs I've been to." The Sun has contacted Glastonbury for comment. Stars will take to the stage at the iconic festival from today, June 27, to June 29, with this year's headliners including The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo. 4

Call The Midwife star ties the knot with director fiancé and breaks wedding tradition as BBC star gushes 'we very much did it'
Call The Midwife actress Rebecca Gethings has tied the knot with her long-term partner, choosing a pink frock in a twist on tradition. The 47-year-who plays Sister Veronica in the hit BBC series, married her long-term partner, the animation director Tom Brass, with whom she has two children. Taking to Instagram, Rebecca confirmed her nuptials beneath a happy photo of the pair emerging from the Old Truman Brewery in London. She said: 'I do, he do, and we very much did' which prompted a slew of Call The Midwife cast members to send their best wishes. Renee Bailey who plays Joyce Highland, wrote: 'Wow.' And Natalie Quarry who stars as Rosalind Clifford, wrote: 'So gorgeous.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rebecca Gethings (@rebeccagethings) Since first joining the series in 2023, Rebecca's character Sister Veronica who works as a nun and health visitor, has become beloved by viewers for her plucky personality and forthright manner. Despite a shaky start, Sister Veronica proves her worth as she delivers babies, advocates for social care improvements and builds trust among her colleagues at Nonnatus House. But earlier this year the Canadian-born actress told how she'd experienced some 'spooky' encounters on set, as several co-stars are said to have witnessed some 'weird goings on' amid rumours that the Surrey-based building is haunted by an Edwardian lady. Rebecca told My Weekly magazine: 'I never go there on my own.' She went on to describe, 'lights going on and off and spooky male laughter outside the women's toilets.' She added: 'Just outside Dr Turner's office, our medic heard a bang when they were locking up for the night,' Gethings explained. 'She went running in and took a photo in the dark, and when you zoom in, there is the figure of an Edwardian lady holding what looks like a pig.' The period drama is filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey, where a Victorian manor serves as Nonnatus House. But aside from some spookiness, Rebecca, who is also known for her roles in the BBC comedy The Thick of It and Ricky Gervais's Extras, also confessed that the Call the Midwife cast are like family. The cast and crew are currently filming the 15th series of the show which includes a two-part Christmas special set both in Hong Kong and Poplar, followed by eight hour-long episodes set in early 1971. It comes after it was reported that Call the Midwife will reportedly come to a close after its 15th series next year. The heartwarming show first aired in 2012 and has since put out 14 series, totalling to more than 100 episodes following the nurses and nuns in Poplar. A Christmas special for this year has already been announced, with the cast said to be currently at work filming for next year's series. However, according to The Daily Star, season 15 will be the show's last, as bosses want the popular drama to 'go out on a high'. A source told the publication: 'After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team have decided it's time to draw the show to a close and bow out. 'This is the last we'll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends. It's a bittersweet time for the cast and crew. They're all sad it's coming to an end, but they want to make sure the show gets the ending it deserves.' However, the insider teased that there could be a special return episode one day in the future, saying: 'The writers are also open to the idea of reviving Call The Midwife for a special one day in the future. It's a case of never say never.'
