Malaysia Records 93,435 Live Births In Second Quarter Of 2025
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said male babies continued to outnumber females, with 48,444 births compared to 44,991, resulting in a sex ratio of 108 males for every 100 females.
'On average, one baby was born every minute, 43 babies every hour and 1,027 babies each day in the second quarter of 2025,' he said in a statement today.
He said Selangor recorded the highest number of live births at 17,605, while the Federal Territory of Labuan recorded the lowest with 274 births.
"Mothers aged 30 to 39 years recorded the highest live births with 48,503 births, which is 51.9 per cent, followed by mothers aged 20 to 29 years (40.8 per cent), 40 years and over (5.6 per cent) and less than 20 years (1.6 per cent)," he said.
Mohd Uzir said a total of 48,408 deaths were recorded in the second quarter of 2025, a decrease of 3.0 per cent compared to 49,906 deaths in the second quarter of 2024.
'The number of deaths for males was 27,607, while females recorded 20,801 deaths, with the gender ratio for deaths being 133 males for every 100 females,' he said.
Despite the decline in births, Malaysia's population was estimated at 34.2 million in the second quarter of 2025, up from 34.1 million in the same period of 2024, reflecting a slower growth of 0.5 per cent compared to 1.9 per cent previously.
'To achieve the targeted population growth of 1.1 per cent outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), Malaysia needs to add around 400,000 people annually,' Mohd Uzir said.

ALOR GAJAH, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government is committed to improving educational facilities in the Rembia state constituency, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. He said that the initiative involved the construction of a new building for the Alor Gajah District Education Office worth RM15.9 million and a new building for the Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Vocational College valued at RM15.8 million. 'Given the large number of students in the area, the state government has also proposed the construction of a new national secondary school to the federal government. He said that the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) had allocated over RM90,000 to upgrade two SRAs in the Rembia constituency and the Sekolah Menengah Arab Al-Faizin in Jelatang. Ab Rauf added that the state government had allocated RM8.6 million through the Melaka Health Department to upgrade the second operation theatre at Alor Gajah Hospital, which is expected to be completed by April 2026. 'In addition, RM1.4 million has been approved to repair the roof of the Alor Gajah Health Clinic's Klinik Ibu dan Anak unit, while RM435,000 has been allocated for repairs at the Rembia Health Clinic,' he said.

Melaka achieves 60.51% measles-rubella vaccination coverage in 12 days
MELAKA: A total of 60.51 per cent or 27,166 children in Melaka have received the Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunisation Activity (MRSIA) vaccination since August 4. State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said 14,922 children were vaccinated in Melaka Tengah, 6,194 in Alor Gajah, and 6,050 in Jasin. The 10-week MRSIA campaign targets 46,500 children, with 26,500 in Melaka Tengah, 12,000 in Alor Gajah, and 8,000 in Jasin. Jasin recorded the highest vaccination rate at 77.73 per cent, followed by Melaka Tengah (58.43 per cent) and Alor Gajah (53.63 per cent). Ngwe announced this during the launch of the Melaka-level Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera (BMSS) celebration, attended by state Health director Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa. He said the vaccination coverage exceeded the initial 12-day target of 36.36 per cent. The Melaka Health Department aims to vaccinate over 95 per cent of eligible children within the campaign period. Parents are urged to ensure children aged six to 59 months, born between August 1, 2020, and January 31, 2025, receive the free supplementary vaccination. Dr. Ruzita said over 13 health programmes will run in September as part of BMSS, targeting communities and schools. Health screenings will be held at three district hospitals and clinics from September 1 to 30. The programme includes the Orang Asli community through collaborations with various agencies. State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said that out of this number, 14,922 children were in the Melaka Tengah district, 6,194 in Alor Gajah and 6,050 in Jasin. Throughout the 10-week MRSIA campaign, a total of 46,500 children in Melaka are targeted to receive the supplementary vaccine, with 26,500 in the Melaka Tengah district, 12,000 in Alor Gajah and 8,000 in Jasin. To date, the Jasin district has recorded the highest percentage of children who have received the vaccination, at 77.73 per cent, followed by Melaka Tengah (58.43 per cent) and Alor Gajah (53.63 per cent), he told reporters at a shopping mall here today. He said this after officiating the launch of the Melaka-level Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera (BMSS) celebration, which was also attended by the state Health director Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa. "There is still time for parents to ensure that their children, aged six to 59 months who were born between Aug 1, 2020 and Jan 31, 2025, receive supplementary vaccinations so that they are protected from the threat of infectious diseases such as measles," he said. Meanwhile, Dr. Ruzita said that in conjunction with the BMSS celebration in September, more than 13 programmes and activities related to healthy living practices and disease prevention have been planned, involving the community, society and school students in the state.
