Dalit assault case: TDP leader forecasts Bhumana's arrest soon
Former MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and his son Bhumana Abhinay Reddy will be arrested soon in the case pertaining to the recent detention and assault of a tribal youth Pavan in Tirupati, Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) spokesperson and Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram said. Addressing a media conference along with Yadava Welfare Corporation chairman G. Narasimha Yadav and media coordinator Sridhar Varma here on Sunday (August 10), Mr. Pattabhiram said the YSR Congress leaders had forced Mr. Pavan to issue a false statement that the attacker was his cousin brother and that the assault had no political angle. It may be recalled that a person, Anil Reddy, reportedly personal driver of Mr. Karunakar Reddy's family, along with one Jagga Reddy, had detained Mr. Pavan in a room and beat him up with a lathi. He had also made a video of the incident and sent it to the victim's father demanding repayment of the money he allegedly owed him. When the issue assumed political overtones and showed the Bhumana's family in poor light, the victim Pavan issued a video statement stating that the person beating him was his cousin brother, and the lathi lashes were only meant to make him mend his ways. Referring to this incident, Mr. Pattabhiram said that while the attack revealed the anti-Dalit attitude of the YSR Congress party leaders, the forcible extraction of a false statement to safeguard their top leader disclosed their 'inhuman' nature. 'We have enough proof of the land grab and corrupt deals of Mr. Karunakar Reddy and his son. They have grabbed nine acres of land abutting Swarnamukhi river. The government will soon unearth the shady deals and arrest the father-son duo,' Mr. Pattabhiram stated.

Dalit Man Allegedly Thrashed In Tirupati, Appeals 'No Politics In My Name'
Hyderabad: A Dalit man was assaulted in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati and the incident filmed by his attackers, one of whom is linked to an ex-MLA from the opposition YSR Congress Party. Pavan Kumar was reportedly beaten over a dispute about a rented motorcycle. The main accused, Anil Reddy, was reportedly a driver for ex-YSRCP MLA Bhuman Abhinay Reddy. The second accused has been identified as Dinesh. Both have been arrested. A third suspect, Jaganreddy, has also been taken into custody, sources said. A video of the attack was shared on X by Revenue Minister Satya Prasad Anagani, who called out Bhuman Reddy for allowing his 'followers to carry out oppression against Dalits'. "In Tirupati, YSRCP rowdies, who are followers of Bhuman Abhinay Reddy, carry out oppression against Dalits... they are recording videos and intimidating them." "The gang leader (Anil Reddy, is) Bhuman Abhinay Reddy's right-hand man. His goons kidnapped a Dalit youth and subjected him to torture. Police have arrested the accused." However, in a twist, Pavan Kumar said in a video statement that the attack on him "had nothing to do with Dalits or the YSRCP and the ruling Telugu Desam Party". "Please do not troll me and play politics in my name..." Pavan Kumar said in Telugu in the video. The video of the assault showed two men locking Pavan Kumar in a room and hitting him with wooden sticks. Reports said the video was then sent to his father, possibly to intimidate him. Reports also said the two men demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to release Pavan Kumar.

Chandrababu attends National Handloom Day event, assures support to weavers
In a significant address at the 11th National Handloom Day held in Mangalagiri, Guntur district, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasised the importance of handlooms as a representation of India's strength, culture, and traditions. He announced plans to establish a handloom museum in Amaravati to celebrate and preserve this vital aspect of heritage. Referring to handlooms as a blend of skill and creativity, Chandrababu reaffirmed the Telugu Desam Party's enduring relationship with weavers, recalling how former leader N.T. Rama Rao had created employment opportunities in the sector. "After agriculture, the textile industry is the largest provider of employment," he noted. The Chief Minister detailed various initiatives aimed at supporting handloom workers, including loans amounting to ₹2 lakh each for 55,500 artisans and a financial outlay of ₹27 crore. He highlighted the provision of 100 units of free electricity to 90,765 families involved in handloom production. In a historic move, Chandrababu announced the introduction of a pension scheme for handloom workers starting from the age of 50, addressing the concern that many fall ill at a relatively young age. "We have spent ₹80 crore on spinning looms with a 50 per cent subsidy," he added. The Chief Minister also promised an increase in free electricity provisions, stating that from this month, families would receive 200 units free, and spinning looms would receive 500 units of free electricity, benefiting approximately 93,000 households. "No matter how much we provide to handloom workers, it will never be enough," Chandrababu concluded. The event also saw the participation of State Ministers Nara Lokesh, Savita, and several other public representatives, all showing their support for the handloom community.
