
Second murder inquiry after body found in Cornwall woodland
The force said officers attended a property in Sticker on Monday and arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of fraud as part of the missing person investigation.It said further information came to light during a search and the man was rearrested on suspicion of murder.A woman in her 30s from Newquay was also arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday after the discovery of the body in the woods at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday, said police.The force said formal identification of the body had now been completed and it revealed the body was not that of the man subject to the missing person investigation.Detectives said the body was a man aged in his 40s and his death was being treated as suspicious and will form part of a separate investigation.His next-of-kin have been informed.
'Unique circumstances'
Det Supt Jon Bancroft said officers believed the two incidents were not linked."Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team will be considering all possible lines of inquiry and members of the public should be reassured every available resource is being utilised to do so," he said.Det Insp Neil Blanchard, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said the force appreciated how the "unique circumstances" surrounding the investigations might cause concern to the public."There is nothing to indicate any risk to the public and we are asking the people not to speculate online as the investigation continues," he said.The pair arrested earlier in the week remain in police custody after warrants of further detention were issued, said the force.Anyone with information about either investigation was asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.

A man aged 31 has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were killed in a quadruple stabbing at a London business. The Metropolitan Police announced the charges faced by a man from Hackney, east London, who had initially been detained following Monday's attacks in Southwark. A resident, who asked not to be named, told the PA news agency: 'It's terrifying. 'I walk past there all the time - it makes you feel really uneasy. 'You just don't expect something like this to happen on a normal weekday.' Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation. Det Chief Supt Emma Bond, who leads policing for the area, said today: 'Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and friends of the victims of this tragic incident. 'Our investigation continues at pace and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances. 'I understand there may be concern in the local community and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. I would also encourage anyone who may be worried to speak to an officer.' A crime scene remains in place and officers continue to investigate the circumstances. The stabbings are understood to have taken place near consultancy firm Prospira Global and housing provider Trademark Homes Police said they were aware of speculation the arrested man was staying at a nearby hotel but that this was not the case. Natasha Ennin, Southwark Council's cabinet member for community safety and neighbourhoods, said she was 'horrified and deeply saddened' by the deaths in the borough. She added that her 'heartfelt condolences' went out to the families and friends of those involved and called on anyone with information to report it.
