Buddha Air operated flights to Kolkata between May and Dec 2019 before they were withdrawn due to a combination of poor load and the Covid-19 pandemic effect.
At that time, Air India used to operate four flights a week between Kathmandu and Kolkata. The airline suspended operations to Kathmandu in Oct last year.
Sister carrier Air India Express, which was supposed to start service on the sector this March, delayed its plans.
Kolkata is Buddha Air's second port of call in India. It has been operating flights to Varanasi for a decade.
Buddha Air has been operating in Nepal since Oct, 1997 when it flew 16 people to Mt Everest and back in a Beechcraft 1900D aircraft.

It currently operates an all-ATR fleet of 16 ATR 72-500 and two ATR 42-320 aircraft that do 160 flights a day to connect 15 destinations. In Nepal, Buddha Air flies to Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bharatpur, and Janakpur, among others.
Travel Agents Federation of India national committee member Anil Punjabi said the introduction of flights would help revive tourism to Nepal from the east.
"It is a repeat destination for those with families on both sides of the border as well as those keen on casinos. All that one requires is a govt ID like a Voter ID cards to travel," he said, adding that the only challenge is that Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination are not accepted in the neighbouring country. Travel Agents Association of India national committee member Manav Soni said the airline would not have difficulty filling up its seats but needed to be consistent in its operations.
"Flight cancellation can impact passenger confidence," he opined.

The airport lounge war has begun — and DreamFolks is losing

Around three years ago, as India's airlines and airports were trying hard to leave the nightmares of the Covid-19 pandemic behind, one travel-technology entrepreneur, Liberatha Peter Kallat of DreamFolks, was out selling another kind of a dream. The firm, an aggregator that acts as a go-between for airport lounge operators, payment networks like American Express, Visa, and MasterCard, and the passengers who swipe their cards for a quick bite or

Philippines eyes buying more defence equipment from India

. NEW DELHI: As the Indian govt prepares to host Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, Manila has expressed interest in purchasing more defence equipment from India. Defence, security and maritime cooperation are among the key pillars of the relationship and will top the agenda of Marcos' bilateral engagement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, along with trade ties. Ahead of the president's visit, the chief of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Romeo Brawner, said the Philippines is looking to purchase more weapon systems from India, citing the quality and affordability of Indian defence equipment. Talking about the ongoing delivery of BrahMos cruise missiles to Manila, Brawner also said two sets of the India-Russia jointly developed missile systems will arrive in the Philippines in the next few years. The Philippines' maritime dispute in the South China Sea (SCS), or what Manila calls the West Philippine Sea, has seen it scaling up defence cooperation with countries like India and Japan to blunt Chinese aggression and ensure peace and stability in the contested waters. India will also join the Philippines this week for a joint patrol in the South China Sea. In the middle of its own border tensions with China, India in 2023 joined Manila in explicitly asking China to abide by a 2016 arbitral tribunal award that refuted Beijing's expansive claims over SCS waters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo Modi and Marcos are also expected to discuss India's offer for concessional Line of Credit to meet Philippines' defence requirements, acquisition of naval assets, and expansion of training and joint exercises on maritime security. According to Manila, six agreements in a range of areas like science and technology, law and culture are expected to be signed. The Modi-Marcos meeting, however, takes place in the middle of efforts by both India and China to rebuild their relationship and it will be interesting to see how much play the South China Sea issue can get in the meeting. During Marcos' recent visit to the US, President Donald Trump reportedly told him he wouldn't mind if Manila got along with China. The two countries will also discuss efforts to enhance trade ties, as they both look to conclude a bilateral trade deal with the US to avoid getting caught in the cross hairs of Trump's trade war. While the US president has announced 25% tariffs on imports from India, he has slapped Manila with a 19% levy. Bilateral trade crossed $3 billion for the first time in 2022-2023 and the two sides have agreed to commence negotiations for a bilateral Preferential Trade Agreement. According to the ministry of external affairs (MEA), development cooperation is another crucial aspect of bilateral relationship. "India is implementing six Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in the areas of agriculture, disaster risk reduction & management, health-care and livelihood support, in the Philippines, under an MoU on Indian Grant Assistance for the implementation of QIPs, signed on Feb 7, 2023," said an official.

Traffic Chaos at Cotton Market Sq To Persist For At Least Four Months

1 2 Nagpur: Commuters passing through the busy Cotton Market Square will have to endure traffic snarls for at least four to five months more, as two major infrastructure projects continue to disrupt the area. For the last three months, the area has been witnessing traffic snarls because of the simultaneous infrastructure projects, leaving commuters frustrated. The Railways shut down the crucial underpass that connects Sitabuldi to Cotton Market for the extension of the fifth and sixth railway lines since the end of April. Simultaneously, MahaMetro barricaded large portions of the main square and installed temporary pillars as part of its ongoing Skywalk construction. These simultaneous projects have created a major bottleneck, forcing motorists to take long detours and worsening congestion in the area. With the underpass closed, motorists traveling from Gandhi Sagar towards Sitabuldi currently have to use the other underpass near Anand Talkies. However, at the entrance of this stretch, MahaMetro erected a temporary platform, which is affecting traffic movement. Similarly, one of the major issues is the movement of heavy vehicles from the railway station side, which passes through the currently opened new underpass. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo The underpass regularly witnesses traffic jams, and the road has become narrow because of the work on the old underpass. "The underpass at Cotton Market Square is an important link for both sides of the railway line. Since it was closed, the detour route is witnessing heavy traffic jams. Similarly, the square is also in bad condition due to MahaMetro's work, which has reduced the width of the road. The authorities should not have given permission for simultaneous works," said Vishrut Kale, a regular commuter. In charge of the Cotton Market traffic zone, Pramod Pore said that the underpass is likely to remain closed for more than four to five months. "We gave permission to railways for six months. Currently, three months are completed, but the work could take another four to five months as they are laying the fifth and sixth railway lines. Similarly, MahaMetro's work will take at least three to four months to complete," said Pore, adding that they are regularly deploying traffic cops at the spot during peak hours to regulate traffic. This means that the area will continue to witness crippled traffic for at least four to five months. A senior MahaMetro official said that the skywalk work would be completed by the end of October, after which all the temporary structures would be removed.
