Aussie shoppers furious over 'sneaky' new detail in Pepsi and Mountain Dew: 'Absolute scandal'
Russell Stuart, known as Russ Eats on social media, went on an expletive rage when he noticed the heath star ratings had switched from 0.5 to 1.5 stars.
Upon a closer look at the ingredients list on the label, up to 35 per cent of the sugar has been replaced with sweetener.
'Worst news in f***ing junk food history - this is going to make some people cry. Full sugar Pepsi and Mountain Dew are gone,' Russ said in his video.
'Now the packaging looks the same, that's what's so sneaky. But the health star has went up. Guess what? They've taken out some of the sugar and added sweetener.
'Look at the Mountain Dew, there was sugar, now there's sweetener. Absolute bulls***... Full sugar Pepsi should not be touched.'
Russ pointed out that Sprite, Fanta and Lift varieties all have versions with reduced sugar content following tweaks to their original recipes, which he isn't a fan of.
'They did this with Sprite, Fanta and Lift - and they all suck now,' he said.
Shoppers are furious after discovering the original recipes of the iconic Pepsi and Mountain Dew soft drinks have been quietly changed. Russell Stuart, known as Russ Eats, went on an expletive rage when he noticed the heath star ratings had switched from 0.5 to 1.5 stars
'Remember when Coke changed the recipe? I wasn't born (at the time), but apparently people nearly punched on.'
The food content creator went on to say that if consumers preferred less sugar, they would choose Pepsi Max or Mountain Dew No Sugar options.
'Why a half a*** version? That would only make sense maybe in sports drinks, not fizzy. Even diabetics rely on the full sugar versions to get their sugar levels up when they go low,' Russ said.
'We had a half a*** Pepsi before, it was called Pepsi Next... There was Coke Life, no c*** bought them, they went off the f***ing shelves.
'Now they've done it secretly to the ones we love. This is an absolute scandal.'
PepsiCo responds
PepsiCo, which owns Pepsi and Mountain Dew, confirmed the ingredients have been altered. There is still sugar in the new formulas of the soft drinks - just less of it.
'We have reduced the sugar content in Pepsi and Mountain Dew in response to consumers who tell us they are looking for products that contain less sugar,' a PepsiCo spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
'The new formulas contain low-calorie sweeteners and a lower sugar content.
'We've also undertaken extensive sensory research to ensure we're still delivering the same great taste consumers know and love.'
Russ's video has been viewed more than 600,000 times - with many saying they were devastated by the change to their popular beverages.
'Not my Dew…. NOT MY DEW,' one said, crying.
'They ruined Mountain Dew when they made it energised. It was perfect as it was 10 years ago,' another shared.
'I'm fuming about the Mountain Dew! Why are they forcing no sugar on us?' one raged.
'If it tastes different I'll cry. I don't even like the no sugar drinks as it is. They have a weird aftertaste - I'd still have them but they're not preferred especially with soft drinks,' one added.
'How dare they do this to me. I honestly drink Mountain Dew everyday for the past eight years, I have been noticing that they taste different recently,' another shared.
Many explained that if they wanted low sugar alternatives, they would choose sugar-free versions.
Meanwhile, many expressed their emotions after their favourite soft drinks were either tweaked or taken off the shelves.
'I cried when they removed Diet Coke from Maccas, planes and pubs. It sucks,' one confessed.
'THAT'S why I hate Fanta now... I didn't realise,' another shared, suggesting they had only just discovered that their go-to soft drink now has reduced sugar.
While one suggested: 'As long as they don't EVER change Pepsi Max or normal Coke I'll sleep well at night.'

Anthony Albanese is slammed as the PM reveals his top ten Australian songs of all time: 'What a disgrace!'
Anthony Albanese has shared his favourite Aussie songs to social media. But it turns out the Prime Minister's constituents are less than enthused with his musical taste - nor his choice to make a fun Instagram post instead of discussing national and international policy. Radio station Triple J is currently calling for votes for their Hottest 100 of Australian Songs and the PM decide to weigh in on Instagram. At number one, Albanese listed The Angels track Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again and at number two, Cold Chisel's Flame Trees. At number three was The Fauves with Dogs Are The Best People and at five, The Go-Betweens with Cattle and Cane. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The rest of the list included You Am I with Purple Sneakers, Hunters & Collectors with Throw Your Arms Around Me, The Triffids with their tune Wide Open Road and Spiderbait's Buy Me a Pony. He also listed off Midnight Oil with Beds Are Burning and at number ten was Paul Kelly's song How To Make Gravy. 'Hard to narrow down to just 10' Albanese wrote in his caption alongside his list. His followers were less than impressed, with many slating the politician for choosing to share a frivolous social media post instead of addressing larger issues like the war in Palestine. 'Your PR team going in overdrive to try and make you seem human / relatable… but there is NOTHING relatable to a PM who has absolutely lost touch with his humanity' wrote one person. 'This post is SO tone deaf it is shocking' wrote someone else while one more commented, 'NO ONE CARES what you picks are.' Another said: 'Seriously??? This is what gets posted??? Far out. What a disgrace. Not everyone was angered by the post, with one fan saying, 'This is the same guy who hosted Rage, he knows what he's doing'. One more commented: 'Well done Albo. How about Treaty by Yothu Yindu? It's time!' It comes after the Prime Minister cane under fire for pushing climate change policy while owning a 'climate criminal' dog by a top columnist. A US study published in June found that not owning a pet was one of the best ways everyday people could keep their carbon emissions low. Taking one fewer flight or eating lower-carbon meats were also effective behaviours identified in the PNAS Nexus report. The finding was leapt on by The Daily Telegraph columnist Tim Blair who suggested Albanese should give up his beloved cavoodle Toto if he is calling for climate action. 'It's time for Albo to turn Toto over to the authorities, because it turns out that little cavoodle of his is an awful climate criminal,' Blair wrote. 'Cavoodle Toto may be way smaller than other "oodle" varieties, such as the Bernese Mountain doodle, the Irish wolfhoodle and the fearsome pit boodle, but she's got one hell of a carbon pawprint. 'That's because Toto occasionally rides on Prime Ministerial flights. 'She's probably racked up more air time than any dog since Snoopy took on the Red Baron.' Blair quipped that 'it should be curtains for the PM's companion critter' in order to help nature balance itself. Toto is regularly photographed with Albanese, including on election day, and has her own X account. The Age even has an an article page dedicated to Australia's first dog.

JoJo Siwa's exes Kath Ebbs and Avery Cyrus team up for cheeky social media post amid surprise new friendship
JOJO Siwa's exes Kath Ebbs and Avery Cyrus surprised fans with their new unlikely friendship, after they teamed up for a cheeky social media post. JoJo, 22, split with Kath after publicly falling in love with Chris Hughes in the Celebrity Big Brother house. 7 7 7 It's fair to say that since then, the Australian influencer, 27 - who uses they/them pronouns - has taken the odd swipe at their ex, and today seemed no different. The only difference being is that they got another one of JoJo's exes on board, Avery, 25. Sharing a video on TikTok, the pair were seen dancing and lip syncing to the Hilary Duff song, What Dreams Are Made Of. The pair looked like they were having fun as they danced along to the song which featured in the teen movie, The Lizzie McGuire Movie. It's not known how they became friends, but they have their JoJo break-ups in common. At the time Kath took to Instagram to reveal the news to their fans. They said: "Before I could even get back to the hotel I went to the afterparty with, I guess my now ex, crazy thing to say, and was dumped in the party. "I was told that there are confused feelings there, do with that what you will, and they had realised in the house that I wasn't the person they wanted to spend the foreseeable." While, Avery was left equally bruised following her own split from JoJo. After striking up a friendship, the pair realised they had feelings for each other and became a couple. They went public with their romance in September 2022. The next month, Avery officially asked JoJo to be her girlfriend while on holiday in Orlando. However, by December that year, Avery confirmed they had split, and shared in a TikTok video that said they were 'better as friends.' 7 7 CHRIS HUGHES ROMANCE Meanwhile, JoJo has been practically inseparable with her man Chris Hughes since meeting him on CBB in April. The pair were extremely close the whole time they were on ITV reality the show. They spent the whole time in the house cuddling and snuggling, despite JoJo's relationship with Kath. After ending things with the Aussie influencer, the Dance Moms star wasted no time in turning her close friendship with Chris into a fully fledged relationship. JoJo is believed to be plotting to spend more time in the UK amid her blossoming romance with former Love Island star Chris.
