Apple's foldable iPhone may not be much different from Samsung Fold: Report
Rather than introducing a radically new approach, Apple is expected to refine existing foldable technology. This includes reducing the visibility of the screen crease on the main display and introducing a more durable hinge mechanism. Additionally, Apple's upcoming iOS version — likely called iOS 27 — is expected to include features optimised for the foldable display experience.
The report suggests that the move is seen as a strategic response to rivals like Samsung, Huawei, and Honor, who have already gained ground in the foldable segment, especially in markets like China where demand continues to grow. Gurman also suggested that Apple's foldable iPhone could be priced around $2,000 (approximately Rs 1,72,580).
Apple iPhone fold: What to expect
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously stated that the foldable iPhone could have a sleek design, measuring between 9mm to 9.5mm when folded, and just 4.5mm to 4.8mm when unfolded. It's expected to feature a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen with minimal crease visibility. These details were echoed by analyst Jeff Pu, who also noted that the outer screen may have a resolution of 2088 x 1422 pixels, while the inner display could be 2713 x 1920 pixels.
Samsung Display is reportedly supplying the OLED panels for the device.
In terms of optics, the foldable iPhone is said to sport a quad-camera setup: two 48MP rear sensors and two 24MP front cameras — one on each display. While the exact camera configuration is not confirmed, Apple could opt for an ultra-wide or telephoto lens as the secondary rear camera. The front-facing cameras are expected to sit inside hole-punch cutouts.
Apple may also ditch Face ID in favour of Touch ID for this model, with the fingerprint scanner likely embedded in the side-mounted power button.

The OPPO Reno 15 Pro might feature a 6.8-inch OLED display, while the standard OPPO Reno 15 could come with a smaller 6.3-inch OLED screen. The upcoming OPPO Reno 15 series is also expected to include additional features such as a metal middle frame, wireless charging support, and the latest ColorOS 16 interface based on Android 16.

Smartphone Revenues Surpass Record Rs 8.7 Lakh Crore In April-June Globally
New Delhi: The smartphone revenues worldwide grew 10 per cent (year-on-year) in the April-June quarter (Q2 2025) to exceed $100 billion (more than Rs 8.7 lakh crore) -- the highest level in a second calendar quarter to date, according to a new report. In contrast, global shipments saw a meagre 3 per cent (on-year) rise during the quarter, according to Counterpoint Research's latest Market Monitor service. Meanwhile, the global average selling price (ASP) also hit a second-quarter peak, rising 7 per cent YoY in Q2 to approach $350. The market witnessed both volume and value growth despite ongoing macroeconomic headwinds in several key regions. Amid the easing out of US tariffs, OEMs benefitted from robust demand for premium devices, especially in developed markets, said senior analyst Shilpi Jain. Premiumisation has accelerated beyond earlier projections, propelled by expanded access to financing options, enhanced trade-in initiatives, and heightened promotional activities – all of which are effectively lowering the barrier to entry for higher-end devices. According to Research Director Jeff Fieldhack, Apple strengthened its lead in revenues driven by strong performance of the 16 series across geographies, benefitting from the broader premiumisation trend. 'Shipments in the US were front-loaded in the quarter due to tariff uncertainties. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16e drove sales in Japan, making it one of the fastest growing regions for Apple. Emerging markets like Middle East Africa, and India continue to show strong growth,' he mentioned. Samsung retained its leadership position in terms of global smartphone shipments in Q2 2025, while its revenue grew 4 per cent YoY. The brand's growth was largely driven by strong demand for its refreshed mid-tier A-series devices across regions, while the Galaxy S25 series, along with the newly added S25 Edge, drove volumes in the premium segment. 'Looking ahead, we expect the premiumisation trend to continue, with revenue growth outpacing volume growth in 2025. Additionally, growing interest in GenAI smartphones and foldable form factors will likely offer significant growth opportunities for the smartphone market,' the report mentioned.

Meet Matt Deitke: 24-year-old AI whiz lured by Mark Zuckerberg with whopping $250 million offer
At this point Meta's hiring spree to catch up in the artificial intelligence race isn't something new. However, as Mark Zuckerberg and his band of geniuses aim for 'superintelligence', new details have emerged about how extravagantly Meta has paid for some of these talents and others who refused even better offers. While some like Mira Murati's co-founder at Thinking Minds Lab, Andrew Tulloch, couldn't be swayed by even $1.5 billion pay packages, others like former Apple AI models team head Ruoming Pang and Shengjia Zhao have jumped at the opportunity. A new name now joins the mix of young AI researchers Matt Deitke who has joined the newly set up Superintelligence Labs unit after a personal chat with Mark Zuckerberg, according to a report by The New York Times. While Deitke was initially offered a compensation of around $125 million in stock and cash over four years, the 24 year old AI researcher refused. After that Zuckerberg reportedly personally met with Deitke and returned to him with a revised offer of around $250 million over four years with up to $100 million to be paid in the first year itself. Similar reports of Zuckerberg meeting with other potential recruits have come in the past few weeks with the Meta CEO trying to get his company back on track in the AI race with the aim of building 'superintelligence' which refers to a hypothetical stage where AI beats even the most advanced human being faster than its rivals. In this attempt, Zuckerberg has poached talent from the likes of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Apple among other companies. In its earnings report released on Wednesday, Meta said that its capital expenditure will go up to $72 billion in 2025 from $30 billion just a year earlier. Deitke is a recent dropout of a computer science Ph.D. programme at the University of Washington. He had previously moonlighted at a Seattle AI lab called the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. During his stay at the company, Deitke led the development of a project called Molmo which is an AI chatbot that juggles images, sounds and text similar to the kind of system Meta is trying to build. Deitke and several other Allen Institute colleagues founded an AI startup aimed at creating AI agents called Vercept. The company has around 10 employees and has raised $16.5 million from investors including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
