Sarah Michelle Gellar is single-handedly keeping the memory of the 90s alive for millennials this year.
Earlier in 2025, she announced that she'll be stepping back into Buffy Summers' stylish boots, and now she's once again seemingly risen from the dead with a surprise cameo in Sony's reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Gellar became a horror icon when she starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe and future husband Freddie Prinze Jr in the original 90s horror flick as enigmatic beauty queen, Helen Shivers.

Despite being perhaps the biggest star in the movie, Gellar's character is killed off in a heartbreaking moment that's considered among horror fans be to be one of the best chase scenes ever put on film.
While Gellar previously rubbished demands to return to the reboot, reminding fans that 'she's dead', it turns out the screen icon was keeping her cards very close to her chest.
Speaking with news.com.au about her new partnership with Uber One on their new advert that sees Gellar once again come face-to-face with the film's eerie fisherman himself, she revealed that she does indeed make a surprise return in the new movie that's out now in cinemas.
'So the first thing I can clarify is that I never said I wasn't going to be in it!' she laughed.
'I actually didn't intend to do it.'
She explained that the movie's writer and director, Jennifer Robinson, who just so happens to be one of her closest friends – they talk twice a day, every day – insisted that she would find a way to bring back the fan favourite character. But Gellar wasn't convinced at first.
'She told me about three years ago that she wanted to do this and I was like, that's great. I'll help you with Freddy and I'll anything you need with the movie. I just can't be in it. She's like, 'I'm gonna figure out a way.' And I was like, 'There's no way. I'm dead. I'm not going to be a weird twin!''

Despite her initial refusal to make a cameo, Robinson eventually found a way to bring back Shivers that Gellar felt honoured the character well enough to walk back onto set in the cover of darkness.
'I was getting up at five in the morning, sneaking into this set. I was not allowed to go outside the entire day that I was filming. because I was in the costume. So I literally was inside for an entire day.'
The horror flick was shot entirely here in Australia, and Gellar's collaboration with Uber One came about while she and husband Prinze Jr were living in a home in Rose Bay.
'I usually do all the Uber ordering at home. And before we left, I said to him 'You have to get Uber for Australia because you're going to need it to get around and to order food,' so he finally let me put it onto his phone,' she shared.
'Our first favourite [order] was this great coffee shop in Rose Bay. I wish I could remember the name but they had the most wonderful Turkish coffee and little desserts that we ordered at least every other day while we were in Australia.'
The 90s icon went on to share how much she 'loves' spending time Down Under, admitting that it's 'the one place' where she could see herself moving with her family at some point in the future.

Gellar went on to reveal that the hugely anticipated reboot of the show is set to get into production sooner than fans may have first realised.
'We're getting really close. We have to make sure everything is done right. But I will say we are filming very soon,' she teased.
Ever since the reboot was first announced fans have been eager to know which of Buffy's pals might be seen returning to the show alongside her.
In the original show, fan favourite character Anya, who was originally supposed to be in a handful of episodes only to become one of the most beloved characters, dies in the show's finale. It's a brutal second-long scene and for years fans have felt she was owed more.
When I quizzed Gellar on whether the vengeance demon, played by Emma Caulfield, could return, she confessed that she's very much 'on the list' to come back.
Emma Caulfield [right] could be making a comeback to the Buffy reboot, as long as Disney gives Gellar the budget. Picture: Warner.
'I will do my best to honour the original show while also giving a chance to the new characters. I tell everyone to be patient because if we bring back all of the new characters right away, then the audience doesn't have time to like and get to the know the new characters. They won't give them the time of day. So I want to make sure I do spend the right amount of time establishing the new characters.'
'But anyone that follows me knows that Emma and I are very close and obviously, you know, they're all on my list.
'We have to get Hulu and Disney to give us enough episodes, over the course of a couple of years, so we can bring everybody back. All the budget as well!' she said.
I asked Gellar how she feels about the legacy of acclaimed Buffy episode The Body, in which she gives an incredible performance as Buffy deals with the shocking sudden death of her mother.
Despite being heaped with praise at the time, because Buffy was still seen as a teen-leaning show on a lesser network, Gellar mostly missed out during awards season, only scoring one Golden Globe nomination in the end.
Discussing whether she felt respected within the industry at the time, Gellar replied: 'That's an interesting question. I know a lot of people behind the scenes and on the set did feel that they [awards and critics] weren't for me. But I make the show for the fans, not for awards and critics.'
'And so I really felt the love,' insisted the star. 'If there was a nomination for an award from fans, we always won and people loved it and and so for me, that was the joy that I got.
'And I do have a Daytime Emmy,' she chuckled. 'It's very nice!'
Gellar's new I Know What You Did Last Summer campaign ties in with Uber One's partnership with HOYTS, offering perks for members including discounted tickets ($12.50 for general admission, $27.50 for HOYTS LUX) and unlimited free popcorn refills.

Folk-rock frontman Marcus Mumford doesn't look like this anymore

Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford looks near-unrecognisable after undergoing a recent 30kg-plus slimdown. The British-American folk-rocker, 38, who confirmed in a recent interview that he's lost '70 pounds' (31kg) over the past few years, cut a trim figure in a recent Instagram post by country music star Lainey Wilson, who shared a photo of Mumford backstage at a gig in New Orleans. Mumford was coy about his weight loss during an interview with comedian Caleb Pressley in March, explaining simply: 'I had to stop eating ice cream.' But he said of his heavier days, 'I was a great time.' Mumford's weight loss journey started several years ago – back in 2022, he said that focusing on his fitness had given him a renewed focus in life. 'I've quite enjoyed the process,' he revealed on Radio X. It's given me some purpose outside of family and music, which has been good and something to sort of think about. And [it's] just slightly changed my reward system and it feels good.' Mumford said that nowadays, 'the reward system is more centred around surfing than ice cream. The balance has got a bit better.' Mumford has three children with his wife, British actress Carey Mulligan, who he wed in 2012. The couple were in fact childhood pen pals who'd met at camp, then later reconnected as adults and started dating. 'We became pen pals after and that's how we kept in touch, we didn't have phones,' Mulligan revealed on Good Morning Britain last year. 'We used to fax a bit when fax machines were cool. We need to get kids doing the pen pal thing again. It's a good thing.' Back in 2023, Mulligan revealed that her husband – who she eventually reconnected with via Facebook – 'wasn't boyfriend material' when they first met. 'I wrote in my diary that he was the nicest, the kindest person I'd ever met, and I gave him 9 ½ out of 10,' she said on the SmartLess podcast. 'I also wrote that he definitely wasn't boyfriend material. Not that I'd ever had a boyfriend at that time! But I decided that he was not it.'

Sydney Sweeney's jeans ad praised by Trump after actor is revealed to be a registered Republican

Donald Trump has thrown his support behind actor Sydney Sweeney and a controversial advertising campaign she features in, after learning she is a registered Republican voter. The 27-year-old Euphoria actor faced criticism for appearing in an ad campaign for clothing company American Eagle, with some critics accusing the brand of being "tone-deaf" and promoting eugenics theory. Shortly after, publicly available records surfaced that showed Sydney Sweeney had been registered as a voter affiliated with the Republican Party of Florida since June 6, 2024. The actor has not commented publicly on the advertisement or her party affiliation. "She's a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad!" Donald Trump told reporters when asked about the actor while boarding Air Force One on August 3. "You'd be surprised about how many people are Republicans. "I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, then I think her ad is fantastic!" The president then posted on Truth Social about Sweeney's jeans ad for American Eagle Outfitters. Shares in American Eagle Outfitters soared on Wall Street overnight, gaining 23.5 per cent. Mr Trump, misspelling Sweeney's first name, said it was "the HOTTEST ad out there". "It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sidney," Trump said in his post. In the same post, Trump complained about advertisements from Bud Light and Jaguar, along with renewing his complaints about singer Taylor Swift, declaring them all "woke". The advertising campaign features the blonde-haired and blue-eyed actor dressed in denim and it bears the tagline: "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." The US vice-president also weighed in. Speaking to a conservative podcast, JD Vance said Ms Sweeney was an "All-American beautiful girl" and "so much of the Democrats is oriented around hostility toward basic American life". "They think 'we're going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful," he said. "Great strategy, guys, that's how you're going to win the midterms." Some social media users said the campaign alluded to theories of racial superiority. It features several videos in which the company uses "genes" and "jeans" in a play on words. Several videos show Sweeney, dressed head to toe in denim, discussing how great her genes/jeans are while playing with a puppy or starting up a Ford Mustang. "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye colour," she says in another video, which has since been removed. "My jeans are blue." There were concerns it alluded to eugenics, a theory popular among white supremacists that suggests the human race could be improved by breeding out "less desirable traits". But American Eagle posted a statement that said it was always just about jeans. "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans," the brand wrote. "Great jeans look good on everyone." This is not the first time Sweeney has faced controversy. In 2022, she shared pictures of her mother's 60th birthday in which family members wore MAGA-style hats that read "make sixty great again". Sweeney later tweeted that people were turning an "innocent celebration" into an "absurd political statement". ABC/wires

Kristin Davis: Co-star on hit show ‘wouldn't speak to me'

Kristin Davis revealed that one of her Melrose Place co-stars gave her the cold shoulder during the time they worked together on the hit '90s primetime soap drama. During a recent appearance on Hey Dude … The '90s Called! podcast, the 60-year-old actress recalled that she 'felt like I won the lottery' when she landed the role of the villainous Brooke Armstrong in the third season of Melrose Place from 1995 to 1996. However, the Sex and the City star told hosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher 'there was never a moment of feeling confident' on the set of the Aaron Spelling-created series, and one cast member in particular was not very friendly to her. 'There were just so many, so many people [on set],' Davis said. 'And I felt and I have obviously seen all these people since then, and so many of them are so lovely. But at the time … it was competitive.' 'I had my friends within, like Marcia Cross and I were close, which was wonderful,' she continued. 'But there was one, you know, she wouldn't speak to me. Like, she wouldn't speak to me. 'I never had scenes with her, so it wasn't an issue. But I say, like, 'Good morning,' [and she wouldn't respond].' Taylor noted she also had similar experiences with co-stars, especially during that 'period of time' in which she recalled actors were wary of 'anybody who could potentially threaten your job.' 'We've all been on sets where we've had that experience where it was like, 'Oh, I don't think that they love that I'm here, but I'm only here for like a guest star [role] or whatever, right?'' she said. Taylor continued, 'And sometimes they weren't the nicest on certain sets and other times wonderful, but I feel like it was a period of time. And then, I guarantee you now, 30 years out of it, everyone looks back and is like, 'Oh my God, what an idiot I was.'' Davis explained she had 'seen this person,' whom she did not name, since that time. 'She's very nice to me now,' Davis said. 'And sometimes I'm like, 'Does she remember that she was being not that nice to me?'' Davis said she took the opposite approach when she starred on Sex and the City, describing herself as the 'welcoming committee' when new actors joined the cast or made guest appearances. 'I tried to get out there quick and be like, 'Hi,' because I remember that horrible feeling,' Davis recalled. 'It was scary.' Despite her negative experience with one co-star, Davis shared that it was 'amazing' to be part of Melrose Place, though she was disappointed that her stint on the show was short. ' Melrose was intimidating in, you know, so many ways, obviously,' Davis said. 'I mean, I grew up … watching all the Dallas and Dynasty and blah blah blah.' 'So, it meant a lot to me to be on there,' she added. 'Obviously, it was just a job also. Like, at a certain point, you're like, 'I have won the lottery. Like, I have a job. I cannot believe it.'' 'You know, it's amazing, right, from a young actor perspective,' she added. 'And, I mean, as far as I know, I was gonna stay there. Like, I didn't know that I was only gonna be one season, which I believe was 32 episodes, which is insane to think about now.' Davis' character was killed off in the episode 'Devil in a Wet Dress' after she drowned in the Melrose Place pool after falling and hitting her head. During a February interview with People magazine, Davis revealed that she beat Hilary Swank for the role of Brooke in Melrose Place. 'It was Hilary Swank, myself and a girl named Meredith,' Davis recalled of the final auditions for the part. Davis told the outlet she had been worried about her 'very, very long hair' at the time since the other actresses on the show had shorter hair. She recalled that she considered cutting her hair but decided against it. 'I remember going in, and it was just the three of us, and everyone was very nice,' Davis recalled. 'It wasn't one of those, like, scary rooms, and then you go in one at a time.' 'And I remember Hilary came out, and she seemed so young, and she had kind of shorter hair and kind of sporty. And I was like, 'Uh-oh,'' she continued. 'And then Meredith had longer hair also. I was like, 'Oh, good.'' Davis recalled that she and Meredith comforted Swank, who told them, 'I totally blew it,' after leaving the audition room. 'Obviously, she goes on to win two Oscars,' Davis said of Swank with a laugh. 'She did fine. She did fine.'
