Francis Ford Coppola's ‘Megalopolis' Is Returning to Theaters, in a Truly Mega Way

Gizmodo18-06-2025
Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola's long-awaited dream project, came and went from theaters last year. Usually, after that, a film would show up on demand or for streaming but that wasn't the case here. What was happening with Megalopolis? Now we know.
Starting July 20, Coppola's film will be taken on the road for a series of events called 'An Evening With Francis Ford Coppola and Megalopolis Screening.' It kicks off in Red Bank, NJ, before going to Port Chester, NY; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; and San Francisco, CA. It includes a screening of the film, obviously, as well as an 'interactive discussion' with Coppola called 'How to Change Our Future.'
'This is the way Megalopolis was meant to be seen,' Coppola said in a statement. 'In a large venue, with a crowd and followed by intense interactive discussions about the future.' You can get tickets on Ticketmaster, which appear to cost around $40.
Released last year, Megalopolis was the result of decades of planning and anticipation from the legendary director of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Conversation. It cost well over $100 million and was paid for almost exclusively by Coppola himself, but it proceeded to bomb at the box office, grossing a little over $14 million. Nevertheless, the film's huge ambition and beyond-weird performances, themes, and visuals gave it the beginnings of cult classic status. Physical versions of the film were released but nothing beyond that.
Adam Driver stars in the film as a visionary architect who wants to push his city into the future, only to run into a hard-nosed mayor, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, and Shia LaBeouf all get in the fun along with Aubrey Plaza as a character named Wow Platinum. Yes, it's a movie where someone named 'Wow Platinum' makes total sense.
We don't think Megalopolis is a particularly good movie, but it's certainly fascinating, worthy of discussion, and surely there won't be too many more cases to see Coppola discuss his work in public in the coming years. If you're a fan, take note.

Vanessa Kirby Reveals Intense Deleted Scene Between Sue Storm and Mole Man from THE FANTASTIC FOUR

Vanessa Kirby is opening up about a deleted moment from The Fantastic Four: First Steps that would've added a fun, edgier layer to her character, Sue Storm. In an interview with Variety, the actress shared details about a scene with Paul Walter Hauser's Mole Man that never made it into the final cut, one that highlighted the raw power and dangerous potential of the MCU's Invisible Woman. Kirby explained: 'There was a line within a scene that isn't in it anymore with Mole Man – who I absolutely love. I'm so excited that we might get to do more with him if we get to do any more of this, because Paul [Walter Hauser] is amazing. 'But in it, she said something like, 'I could give you an aneurysm if I wanted to in two seconds.'' It's a direct nod to classic Sue Storm from the comics, where she often walks a thin line between restraint and lethal precision. Kirby elaborated further on that balance. 'In the comics, Sue uses that threat quite a lot: 'I could put a force field in your brain and give you an aneurysm. I could put an air bubble inside of you and kill you in an instant. 'These powers are also really lethal and really dangerous. But these four have chosen to unite the global community and be a force for good.' 'She's made this decision, but at her fingertips, she could be lethal. It felt so real to me that somebody that's trying to be a force for good also has the capacity, like we all do, for the light and the dark.' In a separate interview, Kirby also shed more light on another missing scene that took place in Subterranea, Mole Man's underground domain. The scene would have appeared early in the movie and offered a unique window into Sue's work life. 'I had a scene with Mole Man going down into [Subterranea] at the very beginning of the movie. Sue goes and kinda kicks back and has a drink with him. Well, she can't because she's pregnant, but he pours her water, and she wishes it was whiskey. I just loved it.' 'It was so fun to shoot. We went into the mines, all the way up to the North of England to shoot it and it just represented Sue's working life and the fact she interacts with all these she's emotionally in tune with them.' While it's not uncommon for Marvel Studios to leave major scenes and even entire subplots on the cutting room floor, it's a shame we didn't get to see this dynamic exchange play out. It sounds like it would have added a darker, more emotionally complex side to Sue Storm while expanding Mole Man's presence in the MCU. Hopefully, we'll see those deleted scenes released on the Blu-ray special features!

Morgan Wallen Passes One Of Country Music's Biggest Groups

Morgan Wallen earns a record-setting fourth 10-week No. 1 on Hot Country Songs with 'What I Want,' ... More his hit collaboration with Tate McRae. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 25: Morgan Wallen performs onstage during Morgan Wallen's Dangerous Tour, Night 2 at Los Angeles' Arena on September 25, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) Morgan Wallen runs the show yet again on the Hot Country Songs chart, which is not exactly an unfamiliar sight. The superstar has been ruling Billboard's ranking of the most popular country tracks in the United States for more than two months now with 'What I Want,' his collaboration with Tate McRae. As the tune refuses to budge yet again, Wallen reaches a notable milestone and manages a historic first. Another 10-Week No. 1 'What I Want' has now commanded the Hot Country Songs tally for an even 10 weeks. The collaboration — Wallen's first with a female artist — is his fourth to lead the consumption-based ranking, which uses sales, streaming, and airplay data to show which country tracks are the most successful across the nation, for double-digit frames. According to Billboard, he's the first country act to score four such winners. Four Massive No. 1 Smashes Wallen's longest-running leader on the Hot Country Songs list remains 'Last Night,' which is also one of the longest-ruling tracks ever. That cut, which fronted his past album One Thing at a Time, sat in first place for 25 weeks. 'You Proof' (19 weeks) and 'Wasted on You' (11 weeks) also managed double-digit stays in the spotlight. Morgan Wallen Breaks His Tie With Florida Georgia Line Before 'What I Want' hit 10 turns at No. 1, Wallen was matched with Florida Georgia Line, as both acts had scored a trio of 10-week No. 1s on the Hot Country Songs ranking. The duo's 'Meant to Be' with Bebe Rexha, 'Cruise,' and 'H.O.L.Y.' led for 50, 24, and 18 weeks, respectively. Half of the Top 10 Wallen, once again, claims half of the entire top 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart, as he fills five spaces, but that's only a portion of his successes at the moment. The Grammy nominee appears in 18 of the 50 spots on the roster this week. For most musicians, that would mark a career-high point, but the singer-songwriter has actually dominated much more impressively in the past.

Twenty One Pilots Match One Of The Biggest Rock Bands Of Modern Times

Twenty One Pilots score a twelfth No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart with 'The Contract,' tying ... More Foo Fighters for fifth-most leaders in the tally's history. LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 12: Musicians Josh Dun (L) and Tyler Joseph of Twenty One Pilots attend The 59th GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center on February 12, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) On September 12, Twenty One Pilots will release Breach, the band's upcoming eighth full-length album. The group began promoting the set in mid-June with the lead single 'The Contract,' and in just a few weeks, that cut has become not only a hit for the duo, but a major success across several Billboard rankings — especially those focused on radio airplay. This week, 'The Contract' manages to bring the Grammy-winning outfit back to the top spot on one particular list and helps the musicians match with one of the most successful names in rock history. 'The Contract' Becomes Another No. 1 Hit Twenty One Pilots run the show on the Alternative Airplay chart as 'The Contract' jumps from No. 3 to No. 1. The track ascends to first place in its seventh frame on the tally, instantly becoming the pair's twelfth leader. Twenty One Pilots Tie Foo Fighters With an even dozen No. 1s, Twenty One Pilots ties Foo Fighters, as both bands have now sent 12 tracks to the throne on the Alternative Airplay chart. The two acts now jointly claim the fifth-most rulers in the history of the list. Red Hot Chili Peppers continue to lead with 15 No. 1s. Linkin Park trails close behind with 14, while Cage the Elephant and Green Day are matched with a lucky 13 apiece. 'The Contract' Rises on the Rock & Alternative Airplay Chart As 'The Contract' lifts to the highest possible space on the Alternative Airplay chart, the single also reaches a new peak on the Rock & Alternative Airplay ranking. That roster is more competitive, as it includes all subgenres in the rock field. On that tally, Twenty One Pilots inch up from No. 11 to No. 8. This frame doesn't mark the track's first appearance inside the top 10 on the list. Previously, the cut topped out at No. 9, so this week does mark a small but meaningful climb.
