Rod Stewart's Glastonbury performance from overheating to missing act
Sir Rod Stewart performed at Glastonbury Festival yesterday afternoon and certainly put on a show during the Legends slot as he welcomed various different guests on stage. Mick Hucknall, Ronnie Wood and Lulu joined him for an exciting set which included some of his biggest songs such as Maggie May, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy and Sailing - whilst he also belted out other hits like Love Train.
During his set, there was a poignantly staged homage to the late Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie. Christine, who passed away in November 2022, was honoured at Glastonbury with her image displayed on the big screen to the admiration of festival-goers.
Fans were densely packed for Sir Rod's set, eagerly absorbing the 80 year old's energetic show, as staff handed out water to keep the audience hydrated amidst the blistering heat at the festival.
Yet, even a star-studded live show like this wasn't exempt from complications. The Mirror takes a look at the intricacies of Rod Stewart's ninety-minute performance and elaborates on how he managed when the heat of Worthy Farm became a challenge...
Overheating
Due to the sweltering conditions, Rod had to make a temporary exit from the stage not once but twice throughout his extended set, needing to switch up his attire as the temperature soared. Originally wearing a jacket and long-sleeved white shirt, Sir Rod eventually emerged back on stage brandishing a striking pink suit, remarking to fans: "The girls are going to do a song for you while a change my shirt."
His band then launched into a spirited cover of 'Lady Marmalade'.
Rod's band stepped in to perform another song as he vanished without warning to change into a vibrant green suit for the second time.
Missing guest
Lulu, one of Rod's guests during the afternoon performance, had a slightly awkward entrance on stage. After Rod introduced Ronnie Wood and then Lulu, Ronnie promptly made his way on stage, but Lulu was nowhere in sight.
Rod paused and announced 'oh Lulu is coming on in a bit' while Ronnie picked up his guitar and played for the massive Glastonbury audience. Lulu later made her appearance, performing Hot Legs with Rod in her dazzling white suit.
Song blunder
During one of his most renowned songs, Maggie May, Rod seemed to fumble his introduction. Despite appearing to start singing prematurely, it certainly didn't deter fans from joining in.
The song prompted the largest singalong of the set from the enormous crowd, which was filled to capacity as Rod dominated the iconic Pyramid Stage for ninety minutes.
Late finish
Rod must have been having such a good time that he ended his set a few minutes late. Amidst the costume changes and celebrity guests, Rod concluded his performance about five minutes behind schedule.
"We have got to get off the stage soon, we are done," he informed the audience before performing the hit track Sailing. He also expressed gratitude to all his celebrity guests for their contribution to his show, which was warmly received by fans.
One thing's for sure, the 80-year-old rocker certainly knows how to put on a show.

David Attenborough fans left facing ‘nightmares' after spider sequence

But for David Attenborough and his latest series Parenthood, which explores the trials and tribulations of parenting within the animal kingdom, clearly, that's not enough. The 99-year-old natural historian seems to be intent on showcasing one of the most nightmarish sequences possible as a 1,000-strong pack of young African social spiders can be seen eating their mothers. Captured by TV cameras in a never-before-seen moment, the premier episode of the series saw the spiders prey in a game of 'grandmother's footsteps' where they freeze in unison like musical statues before eating their elderly relatives. Attenborough explained 'demands of parenthood are finally taking their toll' on the mothers who offered their body as a 'gift' to their offspring before they departed. The atmospheric music, toe-curling sound effects and Attenborough's iconic voice combined to create the painstaking moment. 'Unsurprisingly, the moment left many viewers in complete shock. Oh my GOD they eat their Mum then all their relatives. It just confirms what I have always know spiders are EVIL,' Viki posted on X. 'These spiderlings are nightmare fuel,' Melanie shared. 'A lioness, a giraffe,a hippo & a gang of cannibal spiders, it's been a bit of a blood bath in tonight's #Parenthood I can hardly watch,' Neil added. Series producer and director Jeff Wilson described it as 'probably one of the best' sequences he had worked on in 30 years of film-making. Oasis fan dies at Wembley stadium show after plunging from top tier
Other shows at the 90,000 capacity stadium are going ahead as planned. An Oasis fan tragically plunged to his death at the band's sold-out concert in Wembley Stadium last night as witnesses described the "horrific" scene, The Mirror reports. The man, in his 40s, is believed to have been sat in the upper tier of the 90,000 capacity stadium when he fell. Emergency services rushed to the man but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The Met Police confirmed officers rushed to reports of an injured person at 10.19pm, towards the end of the band's reunion gig. Police added that officers at Wembley found the man with "injuries consistent with a fall". And the force has urged any witnesses and concertgoers with information about the tragedy to reach out to The Met. A horrified concertgoer took to Facebook to share their account of the tragic moment. They wrote: "Did anyone else see the guy drop from the upper tier last night." Another Oasis fan responded, saying they had a "panic attack" after they witnessed the tragic moment. They said: "I was block 502 row 32. I have never felt so sick in my life. I got to my seat and had a full blown panic attack which has never happened before. "I was shaking and crying. I was so scared to get down and have to go back up as it was such a high demand show. But with the state I was in, Wembley moved me to block 501 row 8. Still high up but no where near as steep. I was so grateful." Another concertgoer, in a lower tier, described seeing emergency crews rush to the spot where the fan hit concrete after the plunge. She wrote: "I was directly underneath in section 211. "At first glance I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. It was horrific to see." A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: "Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. "Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. The Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. "Tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned." The Mirror reports it has contacted both the Metropolitan police and reps for Oasis for comment.
