Jay Robinson earns Southampton point from Championship draw at Ipswich
In a frantic second half, Sam Szmodics hit the post while Robinson had a shot deflected by Town goalkeeper Alex Palmer as neither side were able to grab the victory and the three points.
Ipswich took the lead when George Hirst intercepted a wayward pass and crossed from the right for Jack Clarke to head towards goal, with the ball deflecting off Saints centre-back Harwood-Bellis' chest and into the net.
Adam Armstrong appealed for a Southampton penalty when he collided with opposing captain Dara O'Shea but referee Robert Madley turned away his appeal for a spot-kick.
Then Robinson and Welington collided with each other in the Town penalty area when they were in a great position to find an equaliser.
A break down the right by former Ipswich loanee Ryan Fraser eventually led to him making a pin-point cross for teenager Robinson to connect with his head to bring the sides level, 16 minutes before the break.
Hirst robbed Harwood-Bellis deep in the Southampton half and made his way into the visitors' penalty area where Saints goalkeeper Gavin Buzunu stuck out a leg to deflect the shot.
Moments later Palmer rushed out of his goal towards the halfway line and the ball was almost intercepted by Armstrong but O'Shea closed down the striker's attempt at goal.
The hosts almost took the lead in the 47th minute when Hirst released Szodics towards the Southampton goal but his shot struck the right-hand post and rebounded into Bazunu's arms.
At the other end, Robinson had a shot charged down and Jaden Philogene went close with a scissor kick.
In a frantic start to the second period Szmodics' blistering run upfield nearly resulted in a strike at goal but he failed to outrun Welington, whose solid tackle sent the ball back to his keeper.
Meanwhile, Palmer had to get down to deflect a shot from Robinson and Smzodics collided with Buzuno in the Southampton penalty area, with the referee awarding a free-kick to the visitors.
Substitute Conor Chaplin shot narrowly wide in the final minutes and his header went just over the crossbar but neither side was able to find that crucial winning goal.

Alan Sheehan's mystery striker chase and the names in Swansea City mix
Alan Sheehan's mystery striker chase and the names in Swansea City mix The Swans are likely to be happy to keep everyone guessing in their striker search Hammarby's Jusef Erabi is among the forward options to have been considered this summer (Image: Getty Images) Things are looking very positive at Swansea City right now. Some impressive moves in the transfer market, as well as the recent investment of Snoop Dogg and Luka Modric, has contributed to a noticeable buzz around the club this summer. Saturday's superb win over Sheffield United has got their Championship season up and running on the pitch, although Alan Sheehan clearly felt his side were good for more than just the one goal on the day against the admittedly hopeless Blades. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. The 1-0 scoreline certainly didn't reflect Swansea's relative comfort on the day, an observation that once again brings their recent striker search under the microscope. Not that there's an awful lot to really examine at the moment. Swansea have done an excellent job in keeping their cards close to their chest with many of their captures in this window, and their ongoing search for a new number nine appears to be the latest example. As CEO Tom Gorringe pointed out at the latest fans' forum, it's clearly how the club would prefer to do their business. Article continues below "There's a huge amount of misinformation in the the public domain," he said. "I think that probably gives a false perception of here we are and what decisions are being taken at any given time. "The reality is no matter what that speculation is, or what people are saying online. Nothing is done, and nothing is official until we've sent that through our channels, and that will always be the probably the last place. "I think if you look at the signing of Cameron Burgess, there were no discussions anywhere. That came out the blue for everyone. Obviously internally, it was discussed at length. "I think Rich [Montague] had a few sleepless nights the days previous before it was finally signed. "That's the best way for us to conduct our business. We won't be speculating on any rumours. We work really hard in the background, and hopefully we'll announce things without too much talk in the public. "But we also can't control that. There's lots of people that will submit news into the public domain for their own public gain. Agents in particular. Sometimes clubs will release information to try to drum up interest." The reasoning behind their eagerness to stay under the radar is pretty sound. Director of football Montague has, on a couple of occasions, talked up the need to snap up players that are 'undervalued' by the market, and that's clearly much easier to do when you're doing your business quietly. Burgess, as Gorringe mentions, is the obvious example. But Zeidane Inoussa, Kaelan Casey and Paul Farman were all effectively done by the time their names got out into the public domain. The same looks to be true for Marko Stamenic, who is poised to become their ninth signing of the summer. There's every chance the search for a striker will follow the same pattern, with the club understood to have made encouraging progress in the last few days. Names have got out, of course; some of which have carried more truth than others. City certainly made moves to try to sign Richard Kone and Oli McBurnie, but both ended up going elsewhere. Hammarby's Jusef Erabi has also been considered, with reports in Sweden even claiming he's been the subject of two rejected bids. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone. Meanwhile, reports in Spain have floated Villarreal's Karl Etta Eyong as a possibility, amid suggestions the club have already had a loan bid knocked back. Others to have been mentioned include Schalke's Moussa Sylla and Minesotta United's Tani Oluwaseyi, but it's understood neither are under consideration at this stage. For now, Swansea are keeping us all guessing, and that's probably exactly how they'd like it. Article continues below Should it result in the capture of a top-quality striker, it's likely to suit the rest of us just fine too.

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney sends warning to Viktor Gyokeres after Arsenal debut
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has issued a warning to Viktor Gyokeres after his subdued Arsenal debut. Gyokeres struggled to make an impact in Arsenal's Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday and was replaced in the second half by Kai Havertz. Much is expected of Arsenal's £64m summer signing following his sensational form for Portuguese giants Sporting. Gyokeres, who was playing in the Championship with Coventry City three seasons ago, scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, helping them win back-to-back league titles. The Sweden international was brought in to solve Arsenal's goalscoring issues and take the Gunners to the next level after three successive second-place finishes. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. Some pundits expressed concern over Gyokeres' performance against Manchester United but Rooney says he 'didn't get much support' and insists 'you don't become a bad player after one game'. However, the England legend also warned Gyokeres he is playing in a 'completely different league' and faces 'a lot more pressure' than he may be used to. 'To be fair to him he didn't have much support at times,' Rooney said on his BBC podcast when asked about Gyokeres' Arsenal debut. 'He was a bit isolated, he did show his strength, there was one time he ran into the channel and pushed [Matthijs] De Ligt off the ball. 'You don't become a bad player after one game. I actually played against him a couple of years ago when he was at Coventry and back then you could tell he was a good player. 'The one thing I would say is this league is completely different to where he's been and there's a lot more pressure. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'Arsenal have been in need of a striker and he's the one they've put the trust in and spent the money on so there is a lot of pressure on him. 'Now, the question I would have is can he handle that pressure? We've seen at Man United some players just can't do it, just can't handle the pressure of playing for a big club. 'I guess we're going to find out over the next few months.' Rooney also assessed Arsenal's Premier League title chances after they began the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Old Trafford. As well as Gyokeres, Mikel Arteta has welcomed Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Christian Norgaard to the Emirates Stadium this summer. 'I think they can,' Rooney said when asked if he believes Arsenal can win the title ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City Chelsea. 'It will be tough but they can. 'You can't judge them on that performance because I know what it's like at the start of the season, it can be tough for players. 'Arsenal are certainly one of the three or four teams that can win it, that's for sure.' More Trending The Gunners will attempt to make it two wins from two on Saturday when Premier League new-boys Leeds United visit the Emirates Stadium. Leeds marked their return to the top-flight with a 1-0 win over Everton on Monday night. Six other teams won their opening games of the season as well as Arsenal, including defending champions Liverpool and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. Liverpool scored two late goals to beat Bournemouth 4-2 while Man City looked formidably strong in a 4-0 thrashing over Wolves. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
