A portion of Humanyun's Tomb in Delhi's Nizamuddin area collapsed on Friday with authorities saying that eight to nine people are feared trapped.

A call regarding a portion of the tomb structure falling was received around 4.30 pm, a Delhi Fire Services official said. Eight to nine people are feared trapped and five fire tenders have been rushed, the official said.

Such accounts fuel fears that actual missing numbers could cross official estimates. On Saturday morning, CM Omar Abdullah arrived to placate restless families demanding answers. 'They have been waiting for two days. They want to know if their family members will come out alive or not,' he said, promising relentless search efforts. He pegged missing figures between 70 and 80. 'It will fluctuate a little, but I do not think the number will reach 500 or 1,000 as some are claiming,' he said. Srinagar, Aug 16 (PTI) Kashmiri Pandits celebrated Janmashtami with religious fervour and took out a procession in the heart of the city on Saturday to mark the birthday of Lord Krishna, officials said. The city centre came alive with vibrant celebrations as devotees, including men, women and children, some of whom had dressed up as Lord Krishna, sang bhajans and took part in the procession, and dancing alongside the chariot, officials said. The devotees also offered special prayers for the victims of cloudburst in Kishtwar district. The procession then passed through the Jehangir Chowk and returned to the temple, officials added.
